The House of Representatives starts its new term on January 3rd, and it kicks off with the vote for a new Speaker. While most Republicans back current Speaker Mike Johnson, there are a few holdouts that could cause a delay in the certification of the 2024 election. China launched a new amphibious naval ship with the ability to launch drones, helicopters and fighter jets. It is the latest example of the Chinese Navy showing their determination on growing their fighting fleet to compete with the United States. This past week, President Biden granted clemency to 37 of the 40 federal inmates facing death sentences. The new rebel coalition that wrested control over Syria from longtime despot ruler Bashar al-Assad is being lead by a former Al Qaeda fighter with a U.S. bounty on his head.
