The 119th Congress began on Friday, with their first order of business being to elect a House Speaker. Though there were concerns House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) may not have the support to secure his reelection, he was able to squeak out a victory after Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) switched their votes -- leaving Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) as the only Republican who refused to support the House Speaker. Evening Edition: New Year's Day Terror Attack
At least fourteen people were killed and dozens injured after a driver plowed a car into a large crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early hours on New Year's Day. The FBI have identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas and Army veteran who says he joined the terror group ISIS. In another incident, authorities are investigating a Tesla Cybertruck explosion that occurred outside Trump Las Vegas hotel Wednesday as a possible act of terror, and whether or not the two events are related.
