How Covid Changed Everything with Kat Brignano of Vituity
On this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, Kat Brignano, Vice President Talent Acquisition at Vituity, joins host Ryan Dull to talk about her career path, changes she has seen in recruiting and in business in general since the Covid pandemic turned the world upside down, and the major changes she sees on the horizon in the world of recruiting.
Kat started her career working in non-profit organizations so that she could do “good work.” She ended up in recruiting, and it wasn’t long before she found out that recruiting is “good work,” in that it provides opportunities to change lives through better job opportunities.
Kat talks about how she has seen it all, including jobs in several different industries, surviving multiple recessions, and how she left the agency world to join her current position for “one to three years.” She has now been there for over ten years with no plans to leave anytime soon.
The latest crisis she has survived is the Covid pandemic, and Kat has seen some fundamental changes in recruiting and in the way companies have had to adapt to a new world and a new idea of what the workplace looks like.

Empowering Recruiters for Growth with Tony Cornett of The Trade Desk
Tony Cornett, Senior Vice President, Global Talent Acquisition at The Trade Desk, got into recruiting by accident when he went to interview for a job and found out there was a recruiting job open that paid more.
He quickly fell in love with the things that most recruiters fall in love with—the research of the hunt, the tenacity needed to press forward, and the tying together business objectives with outcomes.
On this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, Tony joins host Ryan Dull to talk about his career path, on both the agency and the client sides, and how that shaped his thinking about handling his leadership role today.
Tony also looks toward the future, one most people will agree has been drastically altered by the recent pandemic. He gives advice on how the industry needs to turn the mirror back on itself and offer recruiters the same considerations, such as working from home, that candidates are currently clamoring for in the workplace.

Walking the Talk with Jose Carbia of Change Healthcare
In this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, host Ryan Dull welcomes Jose Carbia, Vice President Global Talent Acquisition at Change Healthcare to talk about his long career in recruiting. Today, Jose is using his experience to transform the culture at Change Healthcare to one of true diversity through awareness, attraction, and accountability.
Jose believes that an organization should use every possible means to rid itself of bias, both conscious and unconscious, in its hiring process. He says that declaring that your company is embracing diversity is a good first step, but he wants to make sure that Change Healthcare walks the talk to make concrete changes in their talent acquisition process. He wants to ensure that everyone on the team, both current and future, feels embraced and welcome.
Jose also dives into the rapid changes that have been taking place in the talent acquisition profession, especially over the last year, a direct effect of the Covid pandemic. As he says, these changes have made an organization's employment branding more important than ever.

Helping Job Seekers Succeed with Vaishali Saxena of Coforge
In this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, host Ryan Dull chats with Vaishali Saxena, Vice President of Talent Acquisition at Coforge, about her career path shift from HR to talent acquisition, and how she finds TA to be much more interesting.
Vaishali lays out the process she developed when she began her current role at Coforge, including how she brought the historically outsourced recruitment process entirely in-house, and how that resulted in savings for the company.
She gives Ryan some tips on how she manages to further save money for the company by increasing margins in the recruitment and hiring process. Her methods reduce costs while still giving the client what they need in the role she is filling.
She goes on to give wise advice many talent recruiters overlook, which is to always give constructive feedback to candidates, even if you’re not going to hire them. She says that in her experience taking those few minutes with a job candidate can build trust and cause the job seeker to remember you. This small but important action can end up being beneficial to both parties in the future.

When Employees Are Also Customers with Eran Arbel of Florida International University
In this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, host Ryan Dull connects with Eran Arbel, Assistant Director of Leadership & Talent Acquisition Management at Florida International University, to talk about his long career in recruiting and organizational development.
After getting his start with large public sector organizations, Eran finds himself back at his alma mater, FIU, and he tells Ryan about some of the unique and interesting challenges he faces as a university recruiter, for example, how he often has to develop employees who are also students/customers of the organization.
Eran has found that developing supervisors and giving them tools to develop their students/employees is key to having successful relationships and a thriving organization. In recruiting new talent, he believes that making human connections is critical to attracting and keeping the best talent for the role and the university as a whole.
He also offers some interesting insights that come with being an internal recruiter, including being able to develop people more effectively because he is connected to the entire organization, not just the person he is trying to help.

Automation and the Human Touch with Aryeh Lehrer of Comcast
In this episode of the Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, host Ryan Dull sits down with Aryeh Lehrer, VP of Talent Management & Acquisition at Comcast. He discusses his career and how he and his company are adapting to the massive changes that are occurring in the talent acquisition space.
Aryeh believes that in today’s environment you have to look at more than just external recruiting. He focuses on his company’s talent management strategy and development of their internal employees, succession planning, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives that they have.
He says that there is a real balancing act between working within the efficiency and speed that is present in today’s hiring space and still taking the time to do proper diligence and assess candidates in the right way to make sure they are a fit for the role.
Aryeh closes with his advice to people breaking into the profession, which is, “test, test, test, pilot, pilot, pilot.” In other words, keep assessing your processes and decisions, and don’t be afraid to evolve in your thinking and change course if it is the right thing to do.

Accountable Recruiting with Robin Linn, Senior Director, Creative Talent Acquisition of Activision | Blizzard | King
On this episode of Talent Acquisition Leaders podcast, your host Ryan Dull of SageMark HR interviews Robin Linn, Senior Director, Creative Talent Acquisition of Activision | Blizzard | King.
Robin dives into his career in the recruitment industry, especially his current role recruiting in the animation and gaming industry. Having grown up in the shadow of Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, animation has always been a part of Robin’s life, despite his early career as a banker. A lucky break as a sculptor put him on the path to where he is today, as a leader in animation and gaming recruiting.
Robin talks about the changing landscape in recruiting with all the technological advancements in the world today—not just in the way animators and game developers work, but in the way the connected world and social media have opened the world up to recruiters like him who used to be limited to the pool of artists found in the Los Angeles area.
Robin believes technology also pulls back the curtain on certain recruitment practices, forcing the industry to operate in a more transparent, accountable, and human fashion. These are all changes in the industry that he finds refreshing.

In this episode of the TA Leaders podcast, we have a great discussion with Lisa Starin, Director of Talent Acquisition and Talent Management at Baylor Scott & White Health. Lisa is currently serving in a dual role. She leads the talent acquisition team of 22 members. She also serves as the interim talent management director in charge of a new performance management framework and platform for 50,000+ employees.
Interestingly, Lisa started her career in a hybrid role as office support and an associate recruiter. But she took the opportunity to become a full-fledged recruiter as soon as it became available. She shares the “old school” recruiting method she mainly used at the beginning of her career, and why she wouldn’t change anything about her early days.

In her current role, Lisa and her team hire approximately 12,000 – 13,000 people per year. She shares how they’ve had interesting challenges in the healthcare industry in the middle of the pandemic.
Lisa also talks about some of the biggest challenges and initiatives they’re working on moving forward, including some significant changes in workflows for specific roles and what they’re doing to help with internal mobility.
Finally, Lisa shares what she sees for the future of talent acquisition. She mentions what she’s focused on improving to help with internal mobility at Baylor Scott & White Health, as well as some great insights into how all professionals should be approaching talent acquisition.
