Pandemic impacting sports in new ways; Knicks are back to being the Knicks
Today’s word of the day is ‘freedom’ as in being able to do what you want as in being able to say what you want as in what Kelly Stafford is learning about the consequences of this. Kelly is the wife of Lions QB Matthew Stafford. She took to Instagram yesterday and had some sort of take on living in Michigan right now during the pandemic. It was deleted and an apology was posted. What can we learn about this (0:06)? What are the New York Knicks doing right now? They’ve waived every player on their team (not every player) and now they have the most cap space in the NBA. SO what is the big plan? Signing Gordon Hayward? Trading for Russell Westbrook? Oh boy (12:30). Review - Friends From College (Season 2) (22:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the Atlanta Braves sanctions on International signings from a few years ago. Let me give you some background first and then talk about what happened (27:20). Today is Jeffrey Loria’s birthday. In honor of his birthday I’d like to go over some misunderstandings about the man. #waittosee Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Robinson Cano suspended for year; What we learned from the NBA Draft
Today’s word of the day is ‘Cano cannot’ as in Cano cannot help himself as in Cano Cannot get into Cooperstown now as in Cano Cannot play next season. For the second time in his career he has been suspended for PED use. SO what’s going on in the Mets front office now that this suspension cleared $24M off the books? Celebrating (0:06). NBA Draft was last night! Did you watch? Did you see it? Daryl Morey already has his fingerprints all over the 76ers. Trades, trades, trades! Morey sent Al Horford out of town and brought in more shooting. Does Doc Rivers know that this is happening (13:40)? Klay Thompson is hurt again. It could be another significant injury. The Golden State Warriors gave Thompson a five-year, $189M deal and he’ll now likely miss the first two years of that deal with injuries. Woof (19:06). Bogdan Bogdanovich never approved a sign-and-trade deal to the Milwaukee Bucks. And now he wants to enter restricted free agency. Giannis cannot be happy about this (23:06). Review - Rebecca (30:20). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the fight between Joe Judge and Marc Colombo of the New York Giants. They wanted to know if there would actually have been a fight or if Judge just fired Colombo because he was bad at his job (34:35). #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Where will Theo Epstein be in 2021? Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger getting shoulder surgery
Today’s word of the day is ‘rainman’ as in the movie with Dustin Hoffman as in Theo Epstein doesn’t really know what he wants, but everything sounds good. Will he take off 2021? Probably not. Does he want to sit out 2021? Probably. Will he be the New York Mets president of baseball ops? Probably (0:06). SO what’s going on with Cody Bellinger? You guys remember the Dodgers won the World Series, but there was almost a major disaster when Bellinger hit a home run and then dislocated his shoulder celebrating? Do you remember that? Now he needs surgery (5:40). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Mac Williams suing the San Francisco Giants for having bullpen mounds on the field (12:19). Review - Friends From College (23:30). Student loan forgiveness conversation. What is happening and what could realistically happen. I want to discuss this in the context of financial aid and education and college in general. I am passionate about this and it is trending like crazy right now (30:45). NBA DRAFT NIGHT! The NBA also announced a split schedule release for the season and a play-in tournament for the playoffs! Whoa. Extra playoffs is extra business and that’s extra money (40:50). #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Harden wants out of Houston; Milwaukee doing everything to keep Giannis
Today’s word of the day is ‘beard’ as in facial hair as in The Beard as in James Harden. Everyone knows James Harden because of his beard. Well, Harden wants out of Houston in the worst way possible. Houston lost its coach, fired its GM, and now can lose its superstar. NBA players, especially these superstars, have so much control over everything. So what can the Houston Rockets do? Is there anyway to keep him happy and keep him in Houston? Or is he Brooklyn bound (0:06)? So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I was President of LSU would I fire Ed Orgeron. This needs to be discussed (18:50). I have a few thoughts about the Houston Texans. What a shame that organization has turned into. Jack Easterby should not be in charge. He is in charge and he thought a good thing to do was fire the VP of Communications, Amy Palcic, who apparently is loved by everyone inside and outside the organization (27:35). Review - A Rainy Day in NY (35:57). Let’s end a show with some news on Mike Clevinger. He was traded from the Cleveland Indians to the San Diego Padres during the season. Well, it was announced today that the Padres have signed him to a two-year deal, BUT he will miss next season with Tommy John surgery. Why was this deal made (41:35)? #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Marlins make historic hire; NFL’s new diversity hiring rule
Today’s word of the day is ‘glass ceiling’ as in breaking the glass ceiling as in raising up the ranks as in the Miami Marlins made a big time hire on Friday by hiring Kim Ng. She becomes the first female GM in the four major US sports. Let’s take a look at why Derek Jeter made this hire and what it means for the future (0:06). The NFL diversity rule is an interesting one. Teams will now get draft picks if a minority coach or GM is hired AWAY from their team. That’s right. Teams can get up to three 3rd round compensatory draft picks if they lose a coach or GM. Will this rule help (14:53)? Review - The Swing of Things (26:00). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about tanking. They wanted to know if as president, and there was a can’t-miss prospect, how would I discuss this with our team (30:15). The NFL is cracking down even more on teams that violate COVID-19 protocols. The Las Vegas Raiders lost a draft pick over this! Did the New Orleans Saints learn from this? Nope. They violated these same protocols and the NFL is pissed (39:10). #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Steve Cohen wins first Mets presser; Tony La Russa in the danger zone
Today’s word of the day is ‘presser’ as in the New York Mets held a press conference yesterday to introduce Steve Cohen. He used his time to talk about how bad he wants to win, spending money, getting the best players, wanting a World Series within 3-5 years; it was everything a Mets fan would want to hear. Was it all the right things to say? Maybe. What about Sandy Alderson? What did he have to say (0:06). On Tuesday’s show we talked about Tony La Russa and his DUI arrest… then what happened after the show was recorded? The transcript was released from La Russa’s arrest and it is a horrible look for him. The Chicago White Sox are in a bad place right now, but will Jerry Reinsdorf acknowledge this (21:38)? Marcus Stroman said he would never sign with the Chicago White Sox. He said for no amount of money would make it worth it (26:19). Review - Shithouse (31:10). A word about Tommy Heinsohn. Hall of fame coach and player. Don Mattingly and Kevin Cash were the winners of the Manager of the Year awards. Let’s talk about these awards and what it meant for Don Mattingly. Who wins the big time awards tonight, Cy Young and MVP (40:10)? #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Should the Chicago White Sox fire Tony La Russa?
Today’s word of the day is ‘sleeping’ as falling asleep as in being asleep at the wheel as in Tony La Russa was charged with a DUI just one day before being named manager of the Chicago White Sox. What happened here? It’s now the 2nd time La Russa has been charged with a DUI. The White Sox said they knew about this arrest prior to hiring him as manager. Now people want him gone. What will the White Sox and Jerry Reinsdorf do (0:06)? Rob Manfred is getting some bad publicity right now for an announcement that came out yesterday. MLB is instituting a voluntary retirement plan for any MLB employee over the age of 50. Why is this a bad thing (19:32)? Review - The Only Living Boy in NY (28:00). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Bucks’ player Sterling Brown settling with the city of Milwaukee following an investigation into police brutality (32:10). CBS announced a new diversity pledge Monday that will have a visible impact on its staple of reality shows: All future casts will contain at least 50 percent Black, indigenous and people of color. How and why are these decisions made (41:00)? #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. More Astros drama; extremely packed sports weekend update
Today’s word of the day is ‘cause’ no not because or not cause something will happen; this is as in terminating a contract for cause. Former Houston Astros president Jeff Luhnow is suing the Houston Astros. The Astros fired Luhnow for cause and he says it was a breach in his contract saving the team from having to pay him $22M. More and more drama in Houston. So what is cause? What would allow a team to fire someone for cause (0:06)? The Washington Nationals have already invited new President-elect Joe Biden to throw out a first pitch at a game. The team released a statement about it. Why would the Nationals already be doing this? Politics (12:38). Tua Tagovailoa finally had his moment. A highlight-reel game against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. So what can the Miami Dolphins do to capitalize on what Tua has done? How do you promote your franchise star (19:31)? Review - Everything Is Illuminated (29:05). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the Chicago White Sox and Tim Anderson. The question that was posed to me was about how the relationship between Tony La Russa and Tim Anderson will get along (33:30). Let’s catch up on what MLB said about Justin Turner and the World Series drama. Rookie of the Year is announced tonight… who wins? #waittosee--------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.
