The Content Experiment Podcast
Abby Herman
The Content Experiment Podcast is a podcast for service-driven business owners who know that content is important but there's also so much more to marketing and business growth.
Here we talk about showing up for your audience in a way that they want to hear and in a way that's sustainable for you. This might mean publishing a weekly podcast or blog, but it also means paying attention to your email list, leveraging other people's audiences, building relationships, and getting over the limiting mindsets that often hit when we're reaching for the next level in our business.

BONUS: Business & Marketing in the Face of COVID-19
This is an uncertain time for parents, families and business owners alike--no matter what kind of business you're in or how old your children are. Workers are being sent home from work, both with and without pay, children are doing school work remotely, businesses are closing their doors and we're all being asked to limit contact with others. For me, it feels a lot like business as usual since I work from home. But now I have a teenager at home all day with me. I'm thankful that she's a teenager but it still looks and feels different at home each day. I think there's a lot of opportunity here during this crisis and I want to share some thoughts with you. I've been just as caught up in the news and worry as the next person, not knowing what tomorrow will look like. But I've spent too many years of my life in a negative mindset, something I overcame years ago. I refuse to go back there, and I'm dedicated to looking forward with a mindset of hope and opportunity. Though it may not feel like there's much opportunity or hope right now as many small business owners are losing work--contracts are being put off, events have been cancelled, people aren't buying and there's no foot traffic in stores. But something I've been talking about for a long time IS possible for you...to get your business online. As a business owner, you get to decide what happens to your business. As a micro-business, you get to decide how you react and how to pivot to weather this storm. Tune in to this bonus episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast for tips and ideas on how you can continue with business in this uncertain time. 031: The 4 Most Important Parts of Your Content Strategy
You need content to have a content strategy, right? What if I told you that some of the most important parts of your content strategy aren't your content at all? (Say WHAT!?) It's true. You can publish content all day and all night and it won't matter unless you have the four things that I talk about on this week's episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast. Too many business owners are publishing content just to say that they're being consistent and visible. But it's just a waste of time if you're not doing it right. It's costing you time and money (and probably some grey hairs and time with your family) to publish all the content--and you're not seeing the increase in engagement, followers or sales. Tune in this week as I talk about the four most important parts of your content strategy. Thankfully some of these are really quick shifts you can make, though others will take a bit more time. 030: How to Build Your Social Strategy with Andrea Jones
Social media is one of the best places for an online business to grow an audience. But it's not about pushing yourself to be on all the platforms or creating content just to get noticed. It's about being strategic and building relationships with the right people. This week on the Stories in Small Business podcast, I'm talking with Andrea Jones of Savvy Social School about how to use social media to market your business. We touch on how long you should spend on social each week (it's probably less than you think!) and where you should spend that time. Andrea also talks about how to use your pillar content to continue to generate content ideas, long after the original content was posted. At the end of the day, your social media shouldn't drive your content strategy--but it's a pivotal piece of it. Andrea is giving us all the tips and examples of who is doing it right. Tune in now! 027: How to Raise Your Prices Strategically
There comes a time in your business where it's time to raise prices. You shift your services, you're experiencing growth or simply inflation has caught up with you and it's time. But it feels like there's such a stigma around price increases, particularly among service-based businesses. A few years ago, I raised prices across the board for all my retainer clients--and didn't lose a single client in the process. The trick was that I was shifting my services to serve my clients even better than before, and gave them all enough time to let the new pricing (and added value) sink in. Listen in to this week's episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast as I walk through some of the most important things to consider when raising your prices and tell you exactly how I've done it in the past. I don't claim to be a pricing expert, but I do want to share what worked for me in the hopes it will work for you too. Mentioned on This Episode Content Strategy Clarity free challenge

026: Transitioning from Educator to Content Creator
Everyone has their own hangups about content development and marketing our businesses, and I love that this week's guest is helping authors to overcome those challenges. Debbie Gonzales is a former educator and administrator and an author and coach for authors in the kidlit industry. She works with authors of all backgrounds and experience levels to get their books in the hands of readers. Like so many of us in this entrepreneurial space, Debbie dove in head-first and learned everything she could about owning a business. She learned how to blog (and why it's a marathon, not a sprint), how age impacts how you're marketing yourself and the importance of community for women of a "certain age." As someone in Debbie's "certain age" target market, I could not have been happier to chat with her. Not only that, but Debbie is a member of my Content Mastery Lab and she gives new meaning to the words star student. 025: Why You Don't Have to Be in All the Places
It's so hard to say no to something in business, but that's exactly what you need to do if you're feeling overwhelmed by the idea of creating all the content in all the places. You do not need to show up everywhere online to market your business effectively. In fact, the opposite is true. You need to be strategic and focused when delivering your message. You need to do your homework and know exactly where your audience is showing up—and then double down there. If you're struggling with what content to create for your audience, you need to listen in to this episode. I'm giving you permission to stop publishing content on all the platforms so you can truly focus on the things that will bring you the best return on your investment. 024: Why You Need a Book to Market Your Business
Getting more visibility has never been easier, especially with the ease with which we can create content today. And by "content," I don't necessarily mean blog posts and YouTube videos. On today's episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast, I'm talking with my friend Jodi Brandon about why business owners should consider writing a book to elevate their business and how to put aside the fears of jumping into the process. Jodi also shares a big "oops" she made in her own first self-publishing venture. Of course, I love that she shared this because no one is perfect and we can all make mistakes--even within our own expertise. We also talk about outsourcing in our businesses, my progress (or lack thereof) with writing my own book and her new group program, The Write Life. Listen in now! Mentioned in This Episode Write. Publish. Market. by Jodi Brandon The Write Life About Jodi Brandon Jodi Brandon has more than 20 years' experience in book publishing. After many years working in traditional publishing, Jodi and her husband relocated from New York to Philadelphia and she launched her freelance editing business. Today Jodi works primarily as a book publishing partner for entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners who want to grow their business with a book.
