From hospital to farm: A unique career transition

The Sanctuary calls itself a "Loving Home for Neglected and Abused Animals." Before he transitioned to Peace Ridge Sanctuary, Dennis was the Director, Design & Construction at Maine Health, a multi-hospital system headquartered in Portland, ME. In his role, Dennis had oversight of design and construction for the entire Maine Health System. Dennis' career transition has been a significant and rewarding one. A Healthcare education podcast. Our guest is Jim Smith, Director of Engineering & Emergency Management at Springfield Hospital in Springfield, VT. Jim is well qualified to discuss the topic of education and healthcare management. Jim has both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, but he joined the Navy out of high school and achieved his first healthcare facilities management job without a college degree. Jim had to convince Rutland Regional hospital to hire him for the Manager of Engineering role, a story he tells in the podcast. Jim has an interesting perspective on the degree. He joined the Navy from high school, then transitioned into the commercial nuclear industry. He then became a Pastor with his church, a true career transition. A Career Journey: From the RI State Police to Hospital Director of Security

Scott has an interesting and unique career journey, he is presently the Director Of Security and Parking at Signature Healthcare, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Prior to joining Brockton Hospital in 2019, Scott spent 10 years with LifeSpan, a RI-based healthcare system. Scott has a completely different professional life prior to beginning his healthcare employment. In 2008, he retired as a Lieutenant after 23 years of service to the Rhode Island State Police. Scott also has military experience which includes being a Staff Sergeant with the Rhode Island National Guard, where he was assigned to the 243rd Regional Training Institute as a Certified Instructor.
