182: Sarah Kleiner - Optimizing Circadian Biology for Hormone Balance & Health

Sarah Kleiner is a Quantum Health Coach with the Quantum Biology Collective (levels 1 & 2). She chats with Dr. Anthony Gustin about how to use circadian biology to reset hormone imbalances and improve your health.    Sarah also shares her best tips for combatting “invisible” light sources from WiFi and non-native EMF (and why we should do so).   You may know Sarah from the carnivore community, where she enjoyed and touted the health benefits of carb-free living. But after struggling with multiple failed IVF rounds and miscarriages, she turned to circadian biology, quantum health, and local, seasonal food.    The results shifted her entire platform, which you’ll hear about during the episode.    Sarah and Dr. Gustin also explore: How light and low-carb diets impact hormones like leptin, cortisol, and melatonin (and how those imbalances affect your health) How a leptin resistance protocol helped Sarah optimize her hormones, lose 30 pounds, and give birth at 43 (without excessive dieting and exercise)  The power of local, seasonal food Why deuterium may be the secret to better health and anti-aging (and the best food sources for it) Simple, natural, free tips to get more sunlight and get your circadian biology back on track   Resources mentioned in this episode: Sarah Kleiner’s website Sarah’s Instagram Sarah’s free guide to Building the Perfect Quantum Day Sarah’s courses (use code PODCAST for 10% off any course!) 181: Dr. Chadi Nabhan - The True Story Behind The Monsanto Cancer Trials

Dr. Chadi Nabhan is an oncologist who testified as an expert witness in the first three litigation trials against Monsanto and their potentially cancer-causing herbicide Roundup.   He chats with Dr. Anthony Gustin about all the “courtroom drama” and research he uncovered.   Roundup is the most common weed killer in the world. Glyphosate (the active ingredient) taints our soil, waterways, and food — it’s even in 97% of people’s urine.   Dr. Nabhan specializes in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the lymph system. He explains Roundup’s link to cancer and other health conditions and why the courts have been ruling plaintiffs billions of dollars in damages.   You’ll also hear about: The chemical history of glyphosate Why Roundup’s formulation increases glyphosate absorption in our skin How researchers in the Agricultural Health Study (AHS) and regulators like the EPA mishandled the science linking glyphosate to cancer Why the internal “Monsanto Papers” reveal the company knew about these dangers all along What Roundup-ready seeds (i.e., glyphosate-resistant plants) mean for the health of our food system Dr. Nabhan’s new book: Toxic Exposure: The True Story Behind The Monsanto Trials And The Search For Justice   Resources mentioned in this episode: Dr. Chadi Nabhan’s website Dr. Nabhan’s Twitter Dr. Nabhan’s book: Toxic Exposure: The True Story Behind The Monsanto Trials And The Search For Justice

180: Georgie Ryan - A Primer On Quantum Health & Circadian Biology

Georgie Ryan comes on the show to teach Dr. Anthony Gustin all about quantum health and circadian biology.    Quantum health is a new rabbit hole Dr. Gustin is eager to explore. It suspends everything we know about nutrition to take a nano-perspective of how electrons from our food and environment give us energy.   As Georgie explains, macronutrients like carbs and fat are only one way to power our bodies. He shares four more ways we can soak up electrons (and one that may be even better than food).   But we can’t really leverage those electrons without the power of UV light. So Georgie breaks down the basics of circadian biology, which is how sunlight influences everything from our hormone and neurotransmitter production to our gut microbiome.   Tune into this episode, and you’ll also hear about: Foods with the highest availability of electrons Water and hydration from a quantum perspective How to follow an ideal circadian rhythm optimized for each sunlight phase Why sunlight during the UVA rise sets the tone for how you feel the rest of the day The most important meal in circadian biology The nuances of melatonin for your body’s repair and restoration cycles (and how to avoid suppressing it)   Resources mentioned in this episode: Georgie Ryan’s website, Georgie’s Gardens Georgie’s Instagram Douglas C. 179: James Arthur Smith - Is Regenerative Aquaculture the Future of Seafood?

James Arthur Smith is the founder and CEO of Seatopia. His carbon-neutral, certified mercury-safe seafood subscription box relies on seafood farmers who practice regenerative aquaculture.   Not familiar with the term?   It’s like regenerative agriculture, but in the water instead of on land.   James explains the nuances of aquaculture farming to Dr. Anthony Gustin. He discusses how it increases biodiversity, restores ecosystems, and produces healthier fish for us.   They talk about seafood provenance and why farm-raised vs. wild-caught isn’t the right question to ask (and highlight which questions you *should* be asking about your seafood).   There’s so much misinformation in our seafood supply chain that it’s easy to feel confused and stop eating fish altogether like Dr. Gustin did.   But just like regenerative agriculture is changing the way we farm, regenerative aquaculture is becoming the future of mercury-safe, antibiotic-free, sustainable seafood farming you can feel good about.   In this episode, you’ll learn: How Shamu and a steelhead trout breeding and hatchery program ignited James’ passion for regenerative aquaculture When farm-raised is better than wild-caught fish  The dark side of commercial and line-caught fishing How microplastics and heavy metals like mercury get into our water systems and move up the sealife food chain What sushi-grade fish means and why sushi chefs don’t work with fresh, wild-caught fish How the carbon footprints of farm-raised vs. wild-caught fish compare Best practices for freezing, storing, and using frozen fish   Resources mentioned in this episode: James Arthur Smith’s company, Seatopia James’ LinkedIn

178: Paul Greive - Hatching the Pasture-Raised Poultry Revolution

Paul Greive is a USMC War Veteran and the co-founder of Pasturebird, the world’s largest daily-move pastured poultry operation. He also helped launch Primal Pastures, a direct-to-consumer regenerative organic farm in southern California.   Paul chats with Dr. Anthony Gustin about how he got into farming, why he credits Lyme disease for kicking off his interest in regenerative agriculture, and how his startups were born.    They also discuss the importance of raising animals in their natural pasture habitat, both for the environment and the added nutritional benefits.    Paul then explains the difference between pasture-raised, cage-free, and free-range chickens. Then he and Dr. Gustin talk about why geese are totally underrated in the US.   You’ll even hear how Pasturebird uses the largest land-based electric vehicles in the world to help their chickens automatically move a full spot every 24 hours.   Tune in to the episode to discover more about: The challenges of scaling pasture-raised poultry The major cost drivers of getting chicken from the pasture to your table Biomimicry and the next big wave in ag tech A better financing model for regenerative farming, including tokenization and fractional ownership of farmlands Paul’s thoughts on the Farm Bill and other government programs and regulations   Resources mentioned in this episode: Paul Greive’s direct-to-consumer regenerative organic farm Primal Pastures Paul’s pasture-raised poultry company Pasturebird Paul’s LinkedIn Paul’s mentor Joel Salatin Find your local pasture-raised farm at Getrealchicken.com Visit HVMN.com/AG to get 30% off your first subscription order of Ketone-IQ™

177: Andrew Lacy - Proactive Body Imaging: A Catalyst for Better Health

Imagine having a window into your own body — before you’re sick or symptomatic enough to warrant an MRI from your doctor.    Andrew Lacy is the founder and CEO of Prenuvo, a health tech company specializing in proactive whole-body diagnostic imaging. He chats with Dr. Anthony Gustin about patient-driven early detection of cancer and other major health issues.   Despite following the best wellness routine, most of us don’t have a black-and-white picture of how our lifestyle will affect our health trajectory over the next 10 or even 20 years.   Uncovering this data could be our catalyst for change.    It may empower us to make more informed decisions to advocate for our long-term wellness. It may change our “I feel good today, so why worry” mindset. And it may even help us catch early signs of cancer at stage 1 instead of suffering the devastating shock at stage 4.   Dr. Gustin and his wife recently went for Prenuvo scans, which you’ll hear about during the episode. He and Andrew also discuss: The perfect candidates for proactive screens.  The general flow of how the screening process works. The importance of early detection for everything from cancer and aneurysms to back problems and issues caused by chronic metabolic disorders. The pros and cons of different imaging processes (CT vs. MRI vs. X-ray). What can/cannot be detected, and the most commonly detected conditions. The advantages and challenges of using AI in imaging analysis.  Where insurance companies stand on preventative scans now and in the future. 176: Dr. Jill Crista - Breaking the Mold To Take Back Your Health

Dr. Jill Crista is a leading expert at the forefront of diagnosing and treating mold-related illnesses. She comes on the show to discuss how mycotoxins harm your health while flying under the radar of conventional testing and medical protocols.   A trained functional medicine naturopath, Dr. Jill first encountered mold sickness when she couldn’t help a group of Lyme disease patients feel better. Turns out, all but one tested positive for mold.   Dr. Jill then moved into a new house with an uninvited resident (hint: it was mold) and watched her family struggle with symptoms before realizing the cause, further prompting her research.    If mold is lurking anywhere, it’s affecting you.    But you can naturally detox your body and heal using the wisdom Dr. Jill shares in this episode, including: Common symptoms of mold sickness.  The best collection models and tests for your home and health. Why inspectors and medical experts turn a blind eye to mycotoxins (even though they cause 70-80% of mold sickness symptoms). How mycotoxins change your immune system and increase allergy sensitivities. The best ways to eliminate mycotoxins and help your body naturally detox (including which foods to eat and avoid). What makes mold more aggressive and encourages more mycotoxin production (and why routes like burning clean incense may help). 174: Dr. Scott Lyons - Addicted To Drama? How To Break the Cycle

Dr. Scott Lyons is a holistic psychologist and author of Addicted to Drama: Healing Dependency on Crisis and Chaos in Yourself and Others.    He chats with Dr. Anthony Gustin about why we shouldn’t dismiss the behavior of those who seem to thrive on drama as attention-seeking. Like any addiction, engaging in conflict may be a way of coping with deeper psychological issues and trauma.   As he explains, we all develop survival patterns during infancy in response to emotional or psychological wounding. We may become hypervigilant and chronically anxious about our external world, yet numb or unable to process what we feel internally.   So you’ll hear why becoming a “drama queen” may be the body’s way of seeking extreme experiences just to feel *something* again. To metabolize emotions stuck deep in our core identities.   But we can unlearn these behavior patterns, and Dr. Lyons shares a few helpful tips on how to do so.    In this episode, you’ll discover more about: What it means to be addicted to drama How pain and trauma manifest as chaos and chronic stress in our lives How our caregivers during infancy influence how we regulate our emotions throughout life Shifting patterns from our stress response cycle to truly satisfy our underlying emotional needs  Why understanding our identity formation may be the key to healing The benefits of being in resonance with our emotions and how it improves our relationships with ourselves and others   Resources mentioned in this episode: Dr. Scott Lyons’ website Dr. Lyons’ book: Addicted to Drama: Healing Dependency on Crisis and Chaos in Yourself and Others Dr. Lyons’ Instagram Dr. Lyons’ TikTok The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D Visit HVMN.com/AG to get 30% off your first subscription order of Ketone-IQ™

173: Dr. Terry Wahls - Improving Progressive Multiple Sclerosis Outcomes Using Nutrition and Lifestyle Changes

Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2007.   She was bedridden and could barely walk and sitting up was a challenge for her.   As a medical doctor, she dove into aggressive treatment options to try to beat her disease and symptoms, but unfortunately, they didn’t find much relief.   She also dealt with debilitating pain that made it hard for her to work and function normally.   Instead of succumbing to MS, Dr. Wahls vowed to do everything she could to alleviate the awful symptoms she was dealing with.   It led her down a path of discovering nutritional and lifestyle therapies that could offer real relief.   They were so effective that she became active again, both walking and cycling, and she returned to living a normal life, free from being wheelchair-bound, with a huge increase in her quality of life.   She went on to develop The Wahls Protocol and led several research studies, including eight clinical trials, that proved just how effective these dietary changes are in treating progressive MS.   In this episode with Dr. Anthony Gustin, you’ll hear about Dr. Wahls’ inspiring and incredible health journey, how nutrition can drastically impact autoimmune conditions, and the diets that can help these conditions.   You’ll also hear her thoughts on using the carnivore diet for autoimmune conditions, the two nutrient-dense foods she recommends eating whether you’re sick or not, and the spiritual component of healing and health.   Dr. Wahl also shares the symptoms and conditions that may be a red flag for future autoimmune issues, what you can do to treat those before they become worse, and the mindset she adopted to help herself and her family get through the most challenging parts of her health journey.   Dr. Terry Wahls is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She teaches internal medicine residents in their primary care clinics and does clinical research.   Dr. Wahls has been published in over 60 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts, posters, and papers, and her work has been cited thousands of times.   She’s also on her eighth clinic trial, working hard to show that dietary and lifestyle interventions are effective treatment options for people suffering from autoimmune conditions.   In this episode, you’ll learn about the following topics: Dr. Terry Wahls’ incredible health journey and how she went from barely being able to walk or sit up to being active again and living a high quality of life despite being diagnosed with secondary progressive MS Dr. Wahls’ aha moment in her healing health journey and how she started researching alternative treatment options The diets being studied for progressive MS treatments and which ones have shown the most promising results The nutrients she focused on adding to her diet to start repairing her mitochondrial health Is the carnivore diet a good option for people with autoimmune conditions like MS? Is there only one diet or more than one that works at increasing the longevity and quality of life in MS patients? Two nutrient-dense foods Dr. Wahls included in her diet to improve her MS outcomes Other conditions that may benefit from The Wahls Protocol The other lifestyle factors Dr. Wahls addressed aside from nutrition to improve her condition and quality of life The spiritual component to better health and healing What keeps Dr. Wahls going now that she’s seen incredible improvements in her condition   Resources mentioned: Dr. Terry Wahls’ website Dr. Terry Wahls’ Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube channel Where you can donate to help support Dr. Wahls’ incredible research Dr. Wahls’ book, The Wahls Protocol
