He is a former U.S. Army Special Forces and Ranger officer, is the founder and leader of the Free Burma Rangers (FBR). Karen grew up in California and Washington State, graduated from Seattle Pacific University and worked as a special education teacher in Washington State. She married David in 1993, and since then they have served as missionaries in Burma, Africa and the Middle East. Karen homeschooled all three of their children.
