The Bronze Serpent & The Son of Man

Rob Conti | Winter SWO | John 3 The darkness of sin lives inside of us. And apart from Christ, that sin causes our death. There is no amount of good works that can save your soul. Our only hope is to believe and trust in Jesus. The Gospel of John was written so that we could know and see that Jesus is God—and have life in Him. Our sin demands death, but the curse of sin is removed in Jesus. In John, we see Jesus handing Himself over to be crucified. He gave Himself up knowing everything that would happen to Him.  Jesus alone bore the weight of our sin. He who knew no sin, but became sin for you.  For the joy of saving you, He crushed Satan and provided a perfect righteousness for us. The Son of Man had to be lifted up so people could see him more clearly. Jesus is the Lamb of God and he offers us something eternally better than anything else. He made you and He loves you. Don’t ignore the Light. ResourcesJohn 8John 3John 12John 19Hebrews 12:1-2Learn more about our student and adult conferences at Swoutfitters.com. P.S. Jesus Breaks Down All Barriers

Brody Holloway | Winter SWO | John 4We have the answers to today's social issues in the life of Jesus. During Jesus’ life on earth, He crushed barriers to race, culture, and religion. You need to guard yourself against finding answers to social issues in this world. In John 4, Jesus passes through Samaria just to meet the woman at the well. He gave her value and showed her that He alone can satisfy the longings of her heart. Jesus shows us how to shatter social barriers. You can be the one to break barriers but only through the Gospel. Jesus alone can heal our wounded hearts. He assigns us value and determines our purpose. Don’t put your value in this world. Guard yourself against finding your worth in things that are fleeting. He alone will give you abundant life. ResourcesJohn 4John 7Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. The Preexistence of Jesus

Brody Holloway | Winter SWO | John 1 Jesus is eternally preexistent. He is the true light and He came into the world to save us. God created a perfect world. He created people in His own image, calling them to be obedient so they could worship Him. Then they sinned and poison came into the world, which affected everything. Jesus came to rescue us from the wrath that we deserve. Long before we were created, He already had a plan to save us.Jesus, the very revelation of God, was despised by those He came to save. The light of the world had been revealed and then it was rejected. Through Him, we’ve received grace upon grace. We need to have a constant awareness of the grace that’s been given to us to remind us to be gracious to others. There are aspects to God that we won’t ever understand. We can’t even figure another human out. God is preexistent, He existed before all of time. Before space and matter. You have a mission to the Gospel, go and tell everyone.ResourcesJohn 1Hebrews 1Colossians 1Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. Hand to the Plow

Spencer Davis | College Retreat | Sunday MorningSo many people reject Christ in pursuit of freedom. We want to do what we want with our lives, but there is a real risk in loving something else more than Christ. You either follow Him completely or you reject Him completely. It can’t just be a surface level following, Jesus wants it all. There is nothing new under the sun. There have always been people around Jesus but not truly following Him. Oftentimes we want a loophole and we want to game the system. But that’s not serving Jesus, that’s just serving ourselves. This is a heart issue. You need to give up the right to call the shots in your life. Stay focused and refuse to associate with who you once were. You can’t plow looking backward. There will be competing loves in this life but fight distractions and take up your cross daily. If you’re in Christ, you will endure until the end. The Narrow Way of Christ

Brody Holloway | College Retreat | Saturday NightBeliever, you are called to action. There is an expectation placed on you to follow Christ faithfully. The way of the Christian life is narrow and difficult, and even the gate itself is narrow. This means things must be left outside of it. We leave our old selves and the world behind. The wide gate seems so much easier but it’s not in the long run. Anything of high value will cost you something. Following Christ leads to lasting joy through expensive grace. In the face of so-called “deconstructions of faith”, God has deconstructed what the world values. The world merely celebrates what Jesus actually died for. Social movements of the world have no eternal value compared to the work of the cross. Beware of false prophets and keep your hands on the plow. Fix your eyes on Christ and lead the fight. ResourcesCollege Retreat infoMatthew 7Galatians 1Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. The Necessity of Truth

Zach Mabry | College Retreat | Saturday BreakoutWe need to know what the truth is. Every time you make a statement you are making a truth claim, and every religion makes exclusive truth claims. Don’t be afraid to ask someone what they believe and why they believe it. Every person needs to have an answer for what they call true. Often without realizing it, people are always asking what is true and we need to be bold in sharing the hope we have with them. As Christians, we should be a people who are all about the truth. If we’re not operating on a basis of truth corresponding to reality then we have no context for sharing the Gospel. Be willing to follow the truth wherever it leads and be bold in what it leads you to.So many people today have abandoned the truth. Don’t get pushed around by human schemes. Don’t get sucked in with every wind and wave of doctrine. You need to have a commitment to truth. Put your faith and trust in the God who is there and who tells us the nature of reality. Outlast This World

Brody Holloway | College Retreat | Saturday MorningThe World wants to secularize Christianity and abandon the Gospel. People want their own version of Jesus rather than Christ Himself. We need to stand firm in truth or we will fall away with every wind and wave of doctrine. In this message, Brody looks at Daniel’s life in exile and how he resolved not to defile himself with the Babylonian empire. They wanted Daniel to become worldly, but Daniel stood firm and remained faithful to God. Even in slavery, God was still in control. Believer, the world wants the same thing from you. It wants to get to your heart by getting you to love what God hates. The world will promise you things that will appease your flesh. Guard yourself from aiming to be at peace with the world. We are not of this world. When we walk the narrow path, we walk with Jesus. God is sovereign and always has a plan. We must resolve to live with conviction. Remember that your life here is only a temporary dwelling. The Babylonian Empire didn’t last and neither will this world. Trust in the Lord and endure until the end. ResourcesCollege Retreat infoDaniel 1Daniel 10 2 Kings 20Colossians 1Hebrews 1Hebrews 12:1Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. Tearing Down Strongholds

Zach Mabry | College Retreat | Friday NightToday, believers must constantly fight worldviews that oppose Christianity. We need to be on guard because there is a battle raging for the affections of our hearts. This fight isn’t physical, but spiritual. You are material, but your war is not.We have a foundation for what we believe when the non-believing world doesn’t. The god of this world is blinding the eyes of believers. We need to personally be guarding our hearts, minds, and souls against anything that will lead us astray. Let’s represent truth to the world and live faithfully now.ResourcesCollege Retreat info2 Corinthians 10:3-5Ephesians 1:13Colossians 1:1-52 Corinthians 42 Corinthians 11:132 Timothy 2:3-41 Peter 2:11John 16:33Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. Don't Forget The Gospel

Fall Retreat | Zach Mabry | It is easy for us to take the gospel for granted. The creator of the universe became the weakest thing in the universe so that we could know Him. We’re called to deny self, and take up the cross daily. Today, Zach looks at the lives of the Israelites. Their inheritance was the land, while our inheritance is the eternal Kingdom of God. We are so quick to forget this truth. They didn’t deserve the promised land just like we don’t deserve salvation. God fulfills this promise to them not because they are good, but because He is good. Not because they deserved it, but because He wanted to bless them. We have been given more than we deserve. We need to take time to remind ourselves of His truths and promises daily. Are you committed to Jesus? Through Him, the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. The veil has been torn and we now have the ability to know Jesus. The people of Israel forgot. Don’t Forget.ResourcesActs 13Deuteronomy 1:30Deuteronomy 9Isaiah 53-551 PeterIsaiah 51Learn more about our student and adult conferences athttps://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. God is Completely Sovereign

Fall Retreat | Zach Mabry | BreakoutGod is totally sovereign. He is 100% in control at all times. Today, Zach looks at how the Israelites ran to idolatry instead of worshipping Him. Today we make idols out of our phones or relationships but the Israelites were actually worshipping idols that they built. They didn’t trust God even when He was constantly making His presence known to them. But God is sovereign even over our sinful choices. He used their idolatry so He could spread them out all over the world and make His gospel known. What is meant for evil, God intends for good. He hasn’t lost control. We live in a fallen world, but regardless of what’s happening in the world around us, God is sovereign. We can trust Him because He’s good.
