I Thought I Was Just Bad at Czech. Then I Realized THIS Was the Problem
Hey Czech learner!
Do you ever think: “Maybe I’m not talented for languages…” “I’ve been learning Czech for years but still can’t speak!” “Why do I freeze in every conversation?”
Let’s stop pretending it’s your fault. It’s not. And in this podcast episode, I tell you exactly why.
You’ll discover the biggest problem with the way we’ve all been taught to learn languages.(Hint: it’s not about how old you are, or how many grammar books you’ve bought.)
Instead of speaking Czech, most learners are just memorizing words, rules, and phrases they never actually use. That’s not connection. That’s not conversation.
Here’s what you’ll hear in this episode:
Why traditional Czech lessons and apps like Duolingo leave you stuck in your head
How to finally break the wall between “I understand” and “I speak”
3 things you can start doing today to speak Czech naturally
A mindset shift that brings real results (no perfectionism required!)
You’ll also get 3 reflection prompts to understand your blockages—and rewrite your story.
If you’re looking for real-life Czech, practical tips, and the confidence to say more than “Dobrý den,” this episode is for you.Let’s change the way you learn Czech—so you can finally speak the way you want.Měj se hezky, uč se česky, Eliška

Nejdřív jsme viděli kamzíky a muflony. Asi 300 metrů a šel k nám. Nevěděla jsem, co mám dělat. Byla jsem totálně paralyzovaná.Když jsem se zeptala manžela, co mám dělat, dal mi do ruky foťák a řekl, foť. A tak jsem fotila. Medvěd o nás nevěděl. Chvíli jsme tam stáli a dívali se na něj a potom jsme šli dál. Byl to ale adrenalin. A to není všechno. Když jsme potom přišli do vesnice, museli jsme stopovat auta, protože vlák ani autobus už žádný nejel. No a koho jsme si stopli? Policajty. F*uck the levels. Speak Czech now!
You are not your level. You are your voice.Let’s stop pretending that levels (A1, A2, B1… blah blah) mean anything in real life.Because real-life Czech doesn’t ask, “Excuse me, are you B2 yet?” before letting you into a conversation. And yet so many Czech learners wait… wait until they feel ready. Wait for permission. Wait for confidence to magically arrive.Let’s change that.In this episode, Eliška (founder of slowczech, language rebel, and mama to two) opens up about the systematic problem with language levels—and shares 3 mindset shifts to help you:Speak Czech now, not later.Stop identifying as “a beginner” and start expressing yourself in real conversations.Join conversations that stretch you—in a way that feels safe, empowering, and fun. You’ll also hear a beautiful story from one of our immersion participants who helped a woman on the street—using imperfect, messy Czech—and felt so proud of herself.Because that’s what real progress looks like. Not a certificate. Not a level. But real-life connection.

Here comes the transcript – enjoy reading along!
Mám dvě hodiny čas a nějak chci ty dvě hodiny zabít. Chci ten čas zabít. Chci si najít nějakou zábavu. Tak třeba jdu do kavárny, dám si kafe a čtu si knížku. A tak zabiju ten čas.
Pak tady mám výraz. Mám nervy v kýblu. To je kýbl. A když řeknu, mám nervy v kýblu. To znamená, měla jsem celý den stres. Už už toho je moc. Už prostě nechci víc poslouchat. Nechci víc dělat. Nechci nic. Potřebuju pauzu. Potřebuju klid. Už mám toho dost.
To stejné třeba je. Mám toho plný brejle nebo mám toho plný kecky. Už je toho tak. Už je toho moc. Stačí.
A pak ještě mám spojení další.
A poslední výraz, to ti řeknu situaci. To znamená dostat čočku.
No a jinak se měj moc hezky a čau.
Znáš i nějaké jiné? Napiš mi do komentáře.
