312 Podcast episode by Petra: Children’s Language -Difference between “jíst” and “papat”

Čauky! Ready for our new podcast episode? Today our tutor Petra explores the charming world of children’s language in Czech. Have you ever wondered about the difference between “jíst” (to eat) and “papat” (a child-friendly term for eating) or between “spát” (to sleep) and “spinkat”?In this episode, Petra shares relatable situations that demonstrate how parents use these playful terms when talking to their young children. If you’re eager to boost your confidence in speaking Czech and want to dive deeper into the language, consider joining slowczech Lab. It’s an online community that offers immersive lessons, helping you communicate effectively with others. Check it out at www.slowczech.com/lab.Tune in now and enjoy the journey of learning with slowczech! Transcript of this episode:Ahoj, doufám, že se máš hezky. Já tě moc zdravím.Víš, jaký je rozdíl mezi jíst a papat? Nebo mezi spát a spinkat? Papat a spinkat, to je dětská řeč. Já jsem slyšela často během svých lekcí i v komunikaci s cizinci to, že používaly dětskou řeč. I když mluvily o sobě. A jestli chceš mít v tomhle tématu trošku víc jasno, tak si poslechni některé moje podcasty, které se tomuto tématu věnujou. A dneska ti povím takový základ. Představ si situaci, kdy v kuchyní je maminka, tatínek, třeba Martin, a syn Tomáš. Syn Tomáš má čtyři nebo pět let, plus mínus. A maminka říká tatínkovi, Martine, co si dáš dneska k snídani? How to Learn Czech Grammar the slowczech Way

How to Learn Czech Grammar the slowczech WayAhoj, tady Eliška!Are you struggling or confused what is the best way to learn Czech grammar? You know the rules, you’ve studied the cases, but when it’s time to speak, your mind goes blank.Sound familiar? Traditional methods make Czech grammar feel like a puzzle—one that takes years to solve. But what if there was a better way?At slowczech, we believe that mastering Czech grammar shouldn’t be about memorizing rules—it should be about learning to use them naturally. In this video, we’ll break down why grammar-focused learning holds you back and show you a practical, real-life approach to learning Czech with confidence. Why Grammar-Heavy Learning Doesn’t WorkMost traditional language courses drill grammar into your head but never teach you how to use it. You spend hours learning tables and endings—mluvím, mluvíš, mluví, mluvíme…—but when you need to speak, you hesitate. Why? Because you’re trying to recall a rule instead of communicating. The truth is, you don’t need perfect grammar to start speaking Czech. You need confidence and practice in real-life situations. The slowczech method helps you do exactly that. The slowczech Way: Learn Grammar Through SpeakingInstead of focusing on drills, our method helps you absorb Czech grammar naturally through listening, speaking, and real-life practice. Here’s how:1. Stop Aiming for PerfectionCzech natives won’t judge you for small grammar mistakes. They care about understanding you, not your endings. Even Czechs don’t speak textbook-perfect Czech in daily life! So, instead of freezing up, focus on getting your message across.2. Speak First, Correct LaterConfidence comes from speaking—not from memorizing tables. The best way to internalize grammar is to use it in conversation. The more you practice, the more automatic it becomes.3. Learn Grammar in ContextForget grammar books filled with unnatural sentences. Learn through real-life dialogues and role plays that mimic situations you actually face: ordering coffee, making plans, or chatting with colleagues.Real-Life Czech Practice with slowczechWe designed the Grammar Challenge to help learners stop overthinking and start speaking. Each day, you’ll get bite-sized lessons, real-life dialogues, and practice exercises that build your confidence step by step. Level 1: Focuses on the basics—verb conjugation, cases, and simple phrases. Level 2: Helps you polish your grammar through structured yet natural practice.Join our newsletter to be first to know + receive the early bird discount!Break Free from Grammar OverthinkingIf you feel stuck, it’s time to shift your approach. Czech grammar doesn’t have to be a struggle—it can be easy, natural, and fun.So, let’s stop learning Czech and start speaking it. Try slowczech today and experience the difference.Get matched to your perfect teacher for 1:1 lessons and start speaking… already this week! Have a Czech grammar frustration? Nadchly mě obrovské kaktusy saguaro a modří ptáci v červených skalách.Co se mi nepovedlo? Asi nejvíc mě mrzí situace, které se odehrávají v rodině. Určitě taky znáš tuhle chvíli. Něco řeknu a hned vím, že to bylo špatně, protože to druhému ublížilo. A takových zkažených rozhovorů si přeju v novém roce míň.Na co se příští rok těším? Na dalekou cestu do Nepálu, na společné lyžování s rodinou a na praktický koučinkový kurz. Tobě přeji krásné svátky a šťastný rok 2025.JindraAhoj. A tobě do nového roku přeju všechno dobré, přeju klid v duši a přeji hodně zdraví. A podívej se na video, na live stream Reflect on 2024 and Crash Your 2025. Je tam jednoduchý, ale fakt dobrý návod, jak začít tenhle nový rok.No, a to je od nás lektorek ze slowczech. Všechno. A přeji ti, ať je tvůj rok 2025 plný radosti a velkých pokroků a ať konečně začneš komunikovat s rodinou, s přáteli, s kolegy na té úrovni, jak si přeješ, a ať se v češtině a v Česku cítíš jako doma.
