The PoliticsGirl Podcast
Meidas Media Network, Leigh McGowan
American Democracy is not promised to us and, with all the forces working against it, saving it will take a level of work most people aren’t ready for. The Politics Girl Podcast is here to give people a reason to care and a reason to fight. Our goal is to inspire. To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be, if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t. It’s a political podcast yes, but more than that, it’s a podcast about America’s potential, where one passionate, and slightly mouthy, immigrant attempts to motivate the country to become what it promised to be but, so far, has yet to become. You’ll leave more knowledgeable, more engaged, and more sure that you, personally, can make a difference to the future of American democracy. Everyone’s got a little time for that right? Subscribe for new episodes every Tuesday. We’re in a fight for our country. We sure as hell better know what we’re fighting for. xo

Democracy’s Unsung Heroes PG:CC with David Rothkopf
Join brilliant political analyst, expert, and author David Rothkopf as we discuss his new book, American Resistance: The Inside Story of How the Deep State Saved the Nation, about how a host of government officials worked together to keep our dangerous, unhinged, ill prepared president, and his enablers, from doing irreparable damage to the US, our allies, and the planet as a whole. There are a lot of unsung heroes of the Trump presidency and many of them are faceless bureaucrats, military, even some civilians, who did everything they could to help preserve democracy during the greatest constitutional crisis the country has faced since the civil war. And now…apparently we’re thinking of doing it all again? What are we thinking?! Let’s find out! Less Hate, More Humanity a PG:CC with Alexandra Billings
In the wake of the horrific shooting at Club Q in Colorado, it’s time we bring humanity back into the conversation, because hate is literally killing people. Join me and Broadway & Television superstar Alexandra Billings, as we discuss the Trans experience, the best way to be an ally, and remind everyone that the world is better when we make room for all of us. Despite the tragedies unfolding every day, this episode is the opposite of a downer. It’s an absolutely delightful, entertaining, and eye opening conversation with the most generous woman. I really can’t recommend this conversation highly enough. So That Went Well, PG:CC with White House Chief of Staff, Ron Klain
Ron Klain joins us for the post-midterm wrap up. Though not all the results are in, we do know that Democrats will hold the Senate, no election deniers will be in charge of elections, that Democrats have gained governorships and made headway in state houses and the power of hate and division might be on the wain. However, it shakes out, the midterms were a good day for democracy. We might be in for a contentious 2 years, but then again, aren’t we used to that by now? The bottom line is people took this election as their opportunity to register their distaste for extremism, election denialism and political violence. They came out to vote for human rights and bodily autonomy and a properly functioning government. If the country is sick, these elections feels a bit like a fever break. Are we out of the woods? Not by a long shot, but we live to fight another day and should be damn proud of our efforts. Candidate Conversations with AG Candidates Jen Jordan for Georgia and Rochelle Garza for Texas
Today’s episode is the last in the series of Candidate Conversations leading up to the midterms, where we talk to candidates who might not be getting the attention they need but have a real chance of winning with the right amount of attention. Today’s we talk to two amazing Democratic candidates for Attorney General, Jen Jordan for Georgia and Rochelle Garza for Texas. The Attorney General is the state’s top prosecutor meant to represent the public interest at the state level. An AG has the power to hold politicians accountable, to promote justice and equality and to protect our democracy. This is not a job that should go to just anyone. It certainly isn’t a job that should go to criminals and party shills, which is exactly who these women are running against. The difference between Jen & Rochelle and their opponents is the difference between women with rights and women without rights, the difference between votes that count and votes that don’t count, and the difference between the law that looks out for the people, and the the law that protects the powerful. AG is a position you should know, and these are candidates you should know about. Electing these women would make such a tremendous difference to the state, but also to the rule of law across the nation. We just need to get them across the finish line. The Rise of Autocracy Redux
As the midterms approach, I thought we’d revisit what’s at stake by re-upping a podcast from January 2022 about the rise of the Autocratic movements around the world and how one party in America seems more than willing to join their club. This is the time we need a resurgence of democracy, not only at home but around the world, or those who would seek to sink the west will finally succeed, and the values and human rights we take for granted will be a thing of the past. Stick with me, so you know where we are and we can walk together in a better direction. I’m telling you this not to upset you, but to prepare you. We have to accept the reality of the problem if we’re going to muster the courage to solve the problem. We will either be the heroes of democracy or the victims of its demise. The choice is ours. 1/6 Committee: What Comes Next? PG:CC with Congressman Jamie Raskin
Today’s podcast is a candid conversation with Congressman Jamie Raskin,Democratic member of the House Select committee on the January 6th attack on the US Capitol, which recently resumed with its 9th, and possibly last, public hearing. Now that we know that a sitting president and his enablers engaged in a multi-strategy, calculated attempt to stay in power against the will of the people, and that this bid at a self coup was supported by people from the lowest of the low, like white supremest militant groups, to the very highest levels of society, including government officials and law enforcement, what do we do? What do we do with the people who still believe the purposeful lie that the election was stolen, or worse, the Republican representatives who could win massive power and usurp democracy running on that lie? What do we do with the anger and unrest that allowed Trump to turn American citizens into a mob who attacked their own Capitol, and what do we do with the simmering fury that still prevails in a society filled with lies and propaganda? Candidate Conversations with Jeff Ettinger, Democratic Congressional candidate for Minnesota’s 1st District
Today is one of our bonus pods leading to the midterms to bring attention to races across the country that are incredibly important, winnable and getting basically no press. Today I’m thrilled to be talking to Democratic Congressional candidate for Minnesota’s 1st District, Jeff Ettinger. Jeff is the previous CEO of the Minnesota’s meat packing giant Hormel Foods, the leader of Hormel’s foundation, a professor of business at the local university and the Democrats chance of flipping a red seat blue right after the special election in August chose to keep it red. Jeff is the the perfect example of how the Democratic Party, unlike its opponent, is not a monolith. That we have many different voices brought together by our shared set of values. We might have different ways of looking at business or tax rates, but at the end of the day we believe in democracy, human rights and the importance of the will of the American people. Jeff will work for Minnesota, his opponent will work for Republican leadership and is happy to just be one more vote for the extremist faction of what used to be the Republican Party. We can win this seat, but we can also show people that the Democrats are not just the socialist, communist monsters they make us out to be. If we were, Jeff wouldn’t be running. Candidate Conversations with Gubernatorial Candidates Chris Jones for Arkansas and Nan Whaley for Ohio
Today’s episode is part of the Candidate Conversation series leading up to the midterms, where we talk to candidates from across the country who might not be getting the attention they need, to win the races they could absolutely win. Today’s we talk to two amazing gubernatorial candidates, Chris Jones for Arkansas and Nan Whaley for Ohio. Both candidates are pro-choice, pro-democracy, out of the box thinkers who are ready to lead. Chris is the most accomplished and extraordinary candidate running against darling of MAGA world Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Nan is the wildly accomplished former Mayor of Dayton running to clear up Ohio against anti-choice, pro-gun, corruption riddled incumbent Mike DeWine. These are candidates you should know about, and races Democrats should care about. We can compete in these states. We have the talent. Let’s give them the money and the voice!
