Alison Young | Top tip for making it in beauty
Alison Young (@aliyoungbeauty) joins me to talk about her incredible career in beauty. She has over thirty years experience, is QVC's longest serving presenter and has sold an estimated £500m of beauty products - it's quite the career, and in this intimate chat we discuss where and how it all started, why she was the original beauty blogger and the huge changes she's seen in the beauty landscape since she started over three decades ago.I also quiz Alison about the 'snake oils' she's seen come and go, how her personal approach to skincare, in particular, has changed over the years and the products she thinks actually work.We also talk about her new channel and website where she's funnelling all her expertise into helpful tutorials, all of which can be found at Alison Young Beauty. To join the closed Facebook group mentioned in the show click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum.Hey! Habit 8 | What is a ketogenic diet and how do I do it?
After the success of habit number 6 and intermittent fasting, I'm going to embark on another eating pattern that promises similar health benefits. While weight loss may be one side effect of the ketogenic diet, there's also a lot of evidence to suggest other physical and mental benefits such as improved clarity and increased physical endurance.I'm a card-carrying yo-yoer, I succeed at restricted calorie intake and intense exercise that eventually becomes unsustainable and am keen to find a way of eating that gives me long-term health benefits and helps me look the way I feel happy with without being an all-or-nothing approach. Here's the link to the ketone strips I'll be using during this #26habits >> Just Fitter Ketone Test Strips. If you want to join the conversation head over to the Facebook Group here >> The Emma Guns Show on Facebook. To view the #26habits back catalogue visit The Pool.Hey! Habit 7 | Can I break my smartphone addiction. UPDATE.
Have I successfully limited my phone use? In this update episode I update you as to whether setting rules around how and when I use my phone has reduced the amount of time I spend on my phone every day. I was clocking up six hours or more a day and in this show I tell you whether I've managed to bring that down to something that's less horrifying that a quarter of the entire day...To get in touch with the show email me on thebeautypodcast@gmail.com, follow me on instagram and twitter where I'm @emmaguns or join the Facebook group for the podcast here >> Facebook Forum.Hey! Habit 7 | Can I break my smart phone addiction?
Phones are wonderful, aren't they? What used to be about making calls is now much more about having the internet, and therefore the entire world, within arms reach. I love my phone, but possibly a little too much. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm addicted and with research and statistics showing that this sort of addiction can affect your physical and mental health, it's time to put some limits in place so I don't fall foul of the luxury of having everything at my fingertips. It was Sali Hughes feature on The Pool - Smartphone Addiction made me anxious, restless and muddled - that left me with no doubt I had an issue with how much I was using my phone, whether that was to actually do something or just to while away the time. So, for my seventh #26habits I'm going to be putting limits on when I use my phone, will be changing a little-known setting to make it much less desirable, turning off a very specific function (clue: it's the one apps and sites always ask you turn on) and putting some physical distance between me and my device. If you want to email me simply drop me a line to thebeautypodcast@gmail.com, to follow me on social media I'm @emmaguns and to join the Facebook forum for the podcast simply click this link >> The Emma Guns Show Forum.Hey! Habit 6 | What are the benefits of intermittent fasting?
You know the expression 'like a kid in a candy store'? Is that how many of us are eating these days? Over-stimulated, over-stretched and leaning on food not only for sustenance, but relief and comfort wherever and whenever we want...As a card-carrying emotional eater I've found that the only times in my life I've ever had any control over my weight is when I'm eating within a strict structure and that 'structure' usually means a rigid regime of counting points, macros, weighing my food, measuring every ingredient to the micro mg, cutting out entire food groups, blending my meals into some sort of 'shake' that could be better described as sludge and more - all of which is unsustainable in the long-term. I've been reading more and more about intermittent fasting (IF) and the benefits are seemingly endless and require little more effort than setting yourself an 'eating window' and sticking to it. Traditional eating habits include a breakfast, lunch and dinner with snacks inbetween and you could time these meals at 8am, 1pm and 8pm or thereabouts. With IF the eating window is 12pm to 8pm.Tune in to find out how I'm going to ease my way into IF from otherwise random eating habits and what the real benefits might be to making this slight change to my eating patterns.
