Alison Young | The Beauty Insider
Alison Young is an independent qualified beauty therapist who returns to the podcast to share her insights from 35 years in the beauty industry. From being a hands-on therapist to the face of beauty on shopping TV and brands' secret weapon when developing products, there's not much she doesn't know.In this conversation, Ali and I discuss:Why the customer always comes first. Why people in the public eye who have cosmetic tweakments and don’t declare it set an unrealistic expectation for what beauty products can doWhy she hasn’t had any cosmetic procedures because she doesn’t want anything to skew the effects and therefore how good a product actually isHow a shift in how we spoke about beauty a few years ago has allowed much more ‘good’ information to get out into the world but sadly has opened the doors to some ‘bad’ information. How beauty identities, ie, being someuse who uses clean beauty for example, allows you to be marketed to better but doesn’t actually mean you’re getting better skincareWhy what works for someone else won’t necessarily work for youWhy the biggest mistake a brand can make is forgetting about the customer and much much more…To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! My Feel-Good Habits
In this episode of the podcast, I share my feel-good habits, the strategies I use and recommend to make sure every day is a good day.My habits include:Making sure every day starts off as productively as possible, and why that can only happen if I have an evening ritual in place. Why cleaning and tidy not only organise the mind and make me feel productive in the short-term but also have long-term benefits too.The importance of getting outside to get fresh air and also be in nature and why tagging on the habit of breathwork (I choose @mrjamesnestor and @icemanhof for mine) maximizes any time outside. How lockdown and the shift from in-person to online communication with friends has altered my friendships but made me appreciate my connections in a way I hadn’t had the chance to before. Why learning and becoming a sponge for new information has been one of the best feel-good habits I’ve leaned into during lockdown and want to carry on now restrictions have lifted. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Davinia Taylor | Top tips for losing weight.
Davinia Taylor returns to the podcast to talk about her new book It's Not A Diet and how biohacking, listening to her body, working with it, rather than against, and paying close attention to what she was feeding it has been instrumental in her feeling better now, aged 43, than she did 20 years ago.In this episode, we discuss:Why she was so passionate about putting pen to paper. How her own experiences have convinced her more people should try this out.Why obesity is a very slow death. Why no one should be judged for being overweight because there are often a multitude of factors at play. Why we should be thinking about more about how food makes us feel after we eat it than when we’re eating it.Why living her healthier life doesn’t cost money and actually just requires some fairly small changes. How much of an effort it is to not like yourself and why it’s a constant battle that no one else knows you’re fighting. Why processed food are so bad for us - and not just for the reasons you may already know. The role of hormones in how we feel and the lifestyle changes we can implement that can help. Why exercising doesn’t have to mean being a gym bunny or go hell for leather and so much more…Davinia's book It's Not a Diet is available now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Bullet Points | Is it ok to talk about weight loss?
One of the things I'm asked about most, via DM and email, is weight loss and yet I am always hesitant to talk about this publicly in case I trigger or offend. The body acceptance and body confidence movements have opened up a really important dialogue around how we speak about weight and our bodies, but it also has the power to shut down debate around weight loss. In this episode, I discuss the nuances of this topic and share the five things that helped me overcome my own issues and lose the weight I wanted to lose.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey! Kristin Lee | Top tips for managing your finances.
Do you know the state of your finances? Do you bury your head in the sand when it comes to money?Kristin Lee is an international business manager and financial expert who joins me on the podcast to explain how we can erase the fear and shame around money, get the grips with our finances and set realistic and achievable financial goals. It’s one thing to address the administrative side of money, but there’s also the emotional side; the stress, worry and uncertainty it can case. If you immediately break out into a cold sweat when a brown envelope comes through your door then this conversation is for you.During our conversation, Kristin and I discuss:Her role in managing high-net-worth sportspeople and entertainers and why the start pointing, regardless of income or wealth, when it comes to money management, is nearly always the same. How her career in finance started out on stage as an artist before turning her passion for financial management into a way to help creatives achieve financial security in a fairly uncertain industry. Why there’s so much fear and shame around money, especially for women, and why it’s important to take control. The information you really need to pay attention to in order to manage your money. Why it's so much more expensive to be a woman. Why hiding under a rock and not facing up to your financial situation is the worst thing you can do (even if it is sometimes the easiest).Understanding when you need to delegate, who to ask questions to and when to take control. Her advice for and against joint accounts vs keeping finances separate. Why it’s not about how much money you make and about how much money you keep. Why everyone should have financial goals and what that looks like. Why being sensible with money doesn’t mean you’re not having fun, and much more…Kristin's management company KLBM. Julia Samuel | Every Family Has a Story
Julia Samuel psychotherapist and author who returns to the podcast to talk about how we can learn to love ourselves. The topic of this podcast was sparked by a conversation Julia (@juliasamuelmbe) and I had at the end of 2020 when we discussed how liking yourself, or loving yourself, is the foundation for the relationships you are subsequently able to form with others. It made me wonder if your relationships are always challenging, cause your stress and/or pain or leave you heartbroken, is it wise to take a step back and examine how you feel about yourself before you make connections with others. In this episode, we discuss attachment theory, why loving and being loved is such a vital component of our identity, the risk in loving others and why we need to pay more attention to our feelings, rather than override them because of what others think because they are actually trying to steer us towards the things we need.We also, very unscripted I hasten to add, did a little exercise - The Felt Sense by Eugene Gendlin - which was a first for me on this podcast. Speaking of that exercise, it’s slightly hypnotic and could be distracting so please be aware of this and don’t follow along if you’re driving, operating heavy machinery or if your attention is required elsewhere. Before I sat down for this call with Julia, I was telling some friends that I was speaking to her again and as Julia has a huge amount of expertise in grief counselling and living losses, someone suggested I ask her about the end of friendships, female friendships in this instance, and how devastating they can be.I think the end of friendships can be trivialised in a way we wouldn’t do with a romantic relationship and so in this episode, we discuss why it’s legitimate to feel the same, or similar, kind of heartbreak after a friendship ends as it is when a relationship does.Julia's book This Too Shall Pass is available now.Julia's podcast A Living Loss is available on all good podcast platforms. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Hey!
