Marco dropped by and shared his incredible story of family and recovery from trauma. He shares about emotional and physical survival in one of the most difficult professions humans occupy. From his personal and family life, through many difficult calls stacked close together came the challenge of holding space for hurting and in many cases, dying humans and the loved ones left behind. We talk about suicide and the impact on families for generations. We were fortunate that he talked about intergenerational trauma that his mother's family experience. I spoke with Daniel about what brought him through addiction and into recovery. Starting from a young age Daniel not only learned to mask his feelings with substances, but also how to keep secrets from those closest to him. He talks about his low point, but also how his family played and continues to play a key role in his recovery. He lives a principled life to the best of his ability, recognizing the process unfolds over time. Chaz and I have a lovely chat over the phone this week. He is out there in the community with his group, Be The Change YYC, bringing much needed outreach and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness. He and I chat about where the province has gone wrong by overriding the municipal government in respects to housing the homeless during this pandemic. She moved out on her own at 15, ending up in Toronto. After a rough time she found her way into recovery where she presently lives.
