207 Jesse Lawler | Cognitive Bias: Evolving From Physic Injury
Understanding of cognitive bias is a great inroad to self-acceptance of your own having made bad decisions because it's something we're all saddled with; every single one of us. Everyone is set up with the same set of biases. At this point, most cognitive biases are bugs; not features but just understanding that cognitive bias exists can keep us from kicking ourselves when we're down. Even though cognitive biases are sort of a built-in problem within the mind, they're also something that can help you make a connection to that past imprints in your mind so that you can heal. - Jesse Lawler How can you wade through all of the different opinions, research, and even your own past experiences to uncover and explore your cognitive biases? JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE On Wellness Force Radio episode 207, AXON Labs Founder and Smart Drug Smarts Podcast Host, Jesse Lawler, joins us for the third time to share how to heal the psychic wounds that have been imprinted in your mind, the best way to seek out information without the bandwagon effect, and the dangers of groupthink and how to avoid it. Discover how you can get out of your mind and into your soul to reveal who you truly are. "We're always completely aware of the context of our own decisions which is why they seem completely reasonable to us. Just because they seem reasonable to us, it doesn't mean they're worth something to anybody else and vice versa." - @Lawlerpalooza http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Intelligence is as fixed as a person's height." Listen To Episode 207 As Jesse Lawler Uncovers: Whether or not in-person job interviews actually have any value at all when it comes to choosing the right candidate. The actual number of cognitive biases that we experience in a lifetime. Placebo vs Nocebo in studies and how they can affect the outcome result. How overwhelming it can be to make choices; especially when we face decision fatigue. Psychic wounds - how we can perceive them as trauma and how they imprint in our minds. The various expectations every person is born with and how a moment of being let down can negatively affect them. Bruno Bettelheim's thesis about expectations and being let down. What people get wrong or confused about cognitive bias. How optical illusions are an excellent way to understand what cognitive bias actually is. The fundamental attribution error - what it is and how we naturally react to it in different scenarios. How we can seek out the best, correct information out there amongst everything that's available to us. The replication crisis when studies are repeated or semi-repeated by different people with new results that don't match up with the original findings. How to correctly educate yourself on a new diet before actually trying it out. The power of looking at both the pros and cons in order to make a good decision. The best way to seek out information without the bandwagon effect, the dangers of groupthink and how to avoid it, as well as how psychic wounds have been imprinted in your mind. What kind of world we might be setting up for future generations. Whether or not psychedelics and deeper states altered states of consciousness help reimprint past tragedies and elevate the pain of cognitive biases in our mind. What work you should do in order to integrate your mind before actually doing psychedelics. How you can improve your emotional intelligence by exploring your cognitive biases. What Jesse is doing now to continuously explore and discover who he is. Power Quotes From The Show “The world is something that we make. If we’re giving everybody participation awards so a kid feels like they’re the specialist snowflake in their class just by being there, that doesn’t necessarily set themselves up for today’s world.” – @Lawlerpalooza http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "We intuitively think that more choices are good. So, if you give people three options, they'll analyze all their options and make a choice. However, if you give them 35 choices of the same thing, we won't want to read every label and either we end up not making a choice or just grab the closest one and make a completely uneducated choice versus at least looking over the top three." - Jesse Lawler "According to Bruno Bettelheim's thesis, the developmental age at which a person has when they experience their first big disappointment with reality really sets the psychic trajectory in motion that they will have for the rest of their life. You don't necessarily need to try to address it but sometimes that's good in certain cases. However, at least try to realize why you missed understanding the world so much that it came and smacked you in this particular way. The difference between somebody who receives a psychic wound when they were two versus fourteen is how they address it from a psychological standpoint and what's going to motivate them going forward throughout their life." - Jesse Lawler "So much of the information that each of us get day in and day out now is coming through some sort of digitally mediated stream rather than our own direct senses whether it's this conversation that we're having over the internet or news that we're reading that somebody else heard, it was written down, or transmitted to us, etc. If you had lived 200 years ago and you were a farmer, a lot of the information you got was from the work of your own hands. I would have known how the soil worked because I dig the soil with my own shovel and had first-hand experience with the world. You might not have known a lot but the things that you would've known came from direct experience and not mediated by any third party." - Jesse Lawler "Groupthink is definitely a danger. If you're in a group of 10 or 12 people, what the first person says has a primacy effect and can really affect what everyone else says. The first one to speak up is usually one of the more dominant ones of the group and holds a lot of social capital among everyone and it becomes harder for each person to voice their own opinions if that's something that's going to cause conflict. So, when I seek advice, I try to get advice individually from a group so that they're not coloring one another's opinion." - Jesse Lawler "The world is something that we make. If we're giving everybody participation awards and if a kid feels like they're the specialist snowflake in their class just by virtue of being there, that doesn't necessarily set themselves up for today's world but it might set them up for the world that exists in 20 years when if you feel bothered by anything outside, you can just plug into virtual reality where all of a sudden you're the star of your own television show in a Trumanesque world." - Jesse Lawler Links From Today's Show Jesse Lawler Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Smart Drug Smarts Facebook Twitter YouTube WFR 097 Jesse Lawler: Brainpower, Consciousness, & The Placebo Effect WFR 036 Jesse Lawler: How to Build A Bulletproof Brain Smart Drug Smarts Podcast Smart Drug Smarts Podcast #220 - Cognitive Fallacies with Dr. Richard E. 206 Dan Pardi: The Sneaky State of Food Science
It's great to have knowledge but that by itself doesn't vaccinate you from having a healthy lifestyle. You have to be able to translate that into skills. Sometimes that skill development is hard and sometimes it's easy. Either way, just actually trying something for the first time breaks the seal so what was theoretical before and is internal now." - Dan Pardi How can you become the scientist and expert of your own mind, body, and soul through personalized health and wellness experimentation? By the end of this episode, you will be well-equipped to weed through all of the information, studies, and research out there to find the best sources that will help you become your best version. "I call them, 'performance-enhancing devices,' because 'tracker' isn't the best way to think about them. Trackers give data but performance-enhancing devices are using that data to actually get you to do more of the good thing." - Dan Pardi of @humanOS_me http://bit.ly/wfpodcast human OS is the most complete, sophisticated, but easy-to-use personal health application available today. Listen To Episode 206 As Dan Pardi Uncovers: The Loop Model - why he created it and how it can help people adapt to healthy behaviors for the long-term. How you can read between the lines of nutrition studies in order to have a clear idea of what you're actually learning. The problem with Virta Health falsely claiming that they reversed diabetes without truly proving it with the right test results. How studies that are done on animals translate to the effect they would have on humans. What exercises are ideal for people with an APOE-4 genotype. The process of deciding which foods work well with your genotype and discovering what doesn't work. Sourdough and whether or not the fermentation process helps us to digest this type of bread. The Ketogenic Diet vs. APOE - Who should be following a high-fat, Keto diet. How you can become the scientist and expert of your own mind, body, and soul through personalized health and wellness experimentation. The difference between a poor quality and a good quality study. Mundane but meaningful, simple daily practices that you can incorporate into your daily life for better wellness. Becoming the architect of your own health through humanOS by choosing your own wellness path. How to use performance-enhancing devices not as the solution to better health but as something that can assist us on our wellness journeys. The impact that humanOS and being healthy in this modern world has on your thoughts, feelings, and actions. How humanOS allows its users to continuously learn more and more about health every day while also being able to enjoyable process. The different takes on fitness wearables and why he uses technology to help him fulfill his wellness goals. How we can modify and change what we're doing according to what didn't work out for us in the past. Why we should see failures as opportunities to grow and learn. The advantages we can take to exploit more of what we like instead of novelty seeking and trying every new thing that becomes available to us. How being curious about the world around us can continue to keep us young at heart. Power Quotes From The Show "Be really gentle with yourself. Follow the ebb and flow in the reality of your life but seek to have fun with it. Enjoying what you do is the most important thing to a successful health practice over the length of a lifespan." - Dan Pardi of @humanOS_me http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "In order for someone to adopt and sustain healthy behaviors long-term, they should understand why they're doing something, how to do it, if they're doing it correctly, and if it's working. You can see that those are four really discrete factors and so you do need to understand health science. We can't totally outsource research because you're going to be the one that's making decisions in your life; nobody's going to make more decisions that you will. So, having some knowledge about all these things that can affect your health is actually an opportunity." - Dan Pardi "The replication crisis demonstrates that studies should be replicated with a different lab. With a detailed method section, someone should be able to pick up that study, follow the protocol, do exactly the same study, and get a very similar result. Often times, the real crisis is that we're not seeing enough replication because of incentives from the journals. Journals want to publish new, positive information versus what's been done before." - Dan Pardi "Don't you want experts involved in the generation of new compounds that could help patients? Don't you want people that have tons of patient experience that understand the ins and outs of seeing an individual of all different types come into their clinic? Don't you want them to have a voice in the process from the very beginning so that they can guide the clinical development program in a manner that's going to lead us to the best understanding of whether or not this drug can help?" - Dan Pardi "Part of the mindset of someone who is seeking health expertise is someone who recognizes that habits aren't just something that we learn in a week or a month; it's an ongoing process. Part of the right mindset is somebody who thinks of themselves as a regular learner by taking in new information, thinking about it, drawing diagrams, and talking about it in their community." - Dan Pardi "Instead of viewing the Ketogenic as, 'Is this the right diet?' view it as 'I'm going to give it a try. How did I do with it? What did I learn about my body from trying it?' The same thing with the Mediterranean diet; instead of viewing it as the best diet ever, we can look at the benefits of it. It's really impossible to decide which diet is best but it's certainly not impossible to say what diet is best for you because you can try it and if you feel really good, you like the food, and it's sustainable plus you're getting the results you want, then that's great." - Dan Pardi Links From Today's Show Dan Pardi Twitter Instagram LinkedIn humanOS.me Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube humanOS Radio humanOS Radio 031 The Ketogenic Diet and Diabetes - a New Study by Virta Health (Guest Dr. Stephan Guyenet) WFR 012 Dan Pardi: Living A Healthy Lifestyle In A Modern World WFR 088 Dan Pardi: How to Find The Health You're Looking For Virta Health Dr. Stephan Guyenet Dr. Begoña Ruiz-Núñez Dr. David Katz 23andMe Promethease The Feynman Technique WFR 011 Ariel Garten WFR 084 Dr. David Perlmutter WFR 129 Gretch Rubin WFR 183 Dr. Kyra Bobinet WFR 196 Aubrey Marcus About Dan Pardi Dan’s life’s work centers on how to help people live healthfully. 205 Wendy Myers: How To Live To 110
Metal detoxification and addressing the body bioenergetically is really important. I actually haven't seen anything that works as well as bioenergetics as far as addressing health issues. Heavy metals and chemicals are definitely a huge threat to our health on so many levels. - Wendy Myers JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE What are the various metal detoxing strategies for adults, athletes, and children? In Wellness Force Radio episode 205, Founder of Myers Detox, Host of both the Live to 110 and Supercharged Podcasts as well as NES Health Practitioner, Wendy Myers, uncovers the proper order for metal detoxification, the differences between light and heavy metal detoxing, and whether or not fluoride is actually good for us. Learn all about the various, simple approaches you can take to detox, heal, and avoid metal toxins every day of your life. "Energy medicine is the future. The energy that we put out into the world comes back to us. My clients have experienced profound, amazing changes from metal detoxes so it's a privilege to be able to offer that to people." - @MyersDetox http://bit.ly/wfpodcast Are heavy metals making you sick? Take Wendy Myers' Metals Quiz to find out! Heavy metal toxicity is often behind digestive issues, systemic infections, stubborn weight gain, brain fog, autoimmune disease, and chronic health conditions. Have you been to many health professionals and not been helped? Are your symptoms robbing you of your joy (and your life)? You’re not crazy. The simple reality for ALL of us is that we have been accumulating metals and chemicals for our entire lives. No matter how healthy you eat or take care of yourself, you CANNOT achieve true health unless you purge heavy metals and environmental chemicals from your body and replenish mineral deficiencies. Heavy Metal Detoxification is the only way to truly reverse disease, heal the body and meet your health goals. Today, a healthy diet and lifestyle alone are not enough to achieve optimal health given the levels of toxins in the environment and our bodies. Listen To Episode 205 As Wendy Myers Uncovers: Myths and mistakes people make about detoxication including juice cleanses. The various health discussions she would have with her father while he was alive and how that inspired her to live a life full of wellness. How big pharmaceutical companies aren't just harming the health of patients with prescribed medication but also censoring what holistic health practitioners and natural medicine experts are sharing online. What being an NES Health Practitioner is all about and how their bioenergetic program can help those who need to detox. Her three-step process to help people start thinking about doing a detox called the Mitochondria Detox that includes a binder, bioenergetic supplement, and an activated silica. How to detox through nutrition and which foods she recommends eating including those with tons of fiber. Why a juice fast isn't the best choice for a detox because there isn't any fiber included in the nutrition. If the liver naturally helps us detox, do we really need to go through a detoxification process? Why coffee enemas are such a great way of keeping the liver healthy. Whether or not it's actually necessary to test yourself to see if you need to detox. The order of steps you should follow for proper detoxification. How detoxification works for children compared to adults. The fact that toxic metals are everywhere - in air, food, water, and even beauty products like deodorant. Simple approaches you can take to detox and avoid metal toxins every day. Photobiomodulation - Can infrared lights help us detox as well? What other benefits do they have? Types of detoxing protocols athletes can follow. The differences between light and heavy metal detoxing The real truth about fluoride and whether or not it's actually good for us. Ongoing misconceptions that simply aren't true about detoxing from heavy metals. The fact that we just cannot escape metal toxins even if we live outside of a largely populated city. Power Quotes From The Show "Since I started bioenergetics, I have a lot more awareness around energy and how other people's energy affects us. It's about how you utilize your energy, will, thoughts, and attitude for your life, decisions, and happiness." - @MyersDetox http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "There's only so much you can do to reduce the number of metal toxins but there are some obvious things you can do like not eating sushi every day and drinking tap water, but no matter how hard you try, you can't protect yourself from everything. Believe me, I've tried. So, that's why you should have a simple, sensible lifelong detoxification strategy whether it's taking a supplement, a coffee enema, or infrared sauna; just focus on doing something small every single day to facilitate and help your body remove these toxins." - Wendy Myers "Detoxification takes energy so that's a price that a lot of athletes don't want to pay while they're trying to train or competitions. So, just taking binders or doing a mitochondria detox is a really great way to detox and facilitate your body's ability to detox. When an athlete has some downtime, that's when they can focus on doing a more hardcore, intense detoxification protocol." - Wendy Myers "We don't want fluoride in our body at all. You need trace amounts of it but the fluoride that's in toothpaste is actually an industrial waste product and it's something that we do not need. The fluoride that's in our drinking water was a very, very bad idea because it's known to cause cancer, interfere with thyroid function, reduce the number of minerals in our bones, and decrease our ability to produce melatonin. So, fluoridation is very toxic to our body and I recommend that everyone removes all fluoridated based products from their body as well as drinking and shower water." - Wendy Myers Links From Today's Show Wendy Myers Facebook Twitter Instagram LinkedIn YouTube The Metals Quiz Live to 110 Podcast #232 Physical & Emotional Intelligence for the Modern World with Josh Trent Supercharged Podcast The Myers Detox Store Myers Detox Protocol NES Health Bioenergetics Harry Massey and NES Health Sterling Hill NES Health Testimonial Mike Adams and Natural News The Body Keeps The Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk WFR 121 Dr. David Minkoff WFR 149 Johnny Blackburn WFR 184 Scott Nelson About Wendy Myers Wendy Myers, FDN-P, NC, CHHC is an expert in detoxification, heavy metals, and minerals, and host of The Medicinal Supplements Summit and Heavy Metals Summit. 204 Robyn Openshaw: What's Your Frequency Type?
You have to start with yourself by being honest with people when they hurt your feelings and accept the fact that they might do it again. You have to stand there in that vulnerability and a temporary feeling of loneliness but doing that actually results in the repair of relationships, restoration of love between the two of you, and just a lot more compassion for you from the other person when they see how honest and open you are about how you feel. - Robyn Openshaw Are you open to letting go of deep-set beliefs and elements of your identity that aren't serving you well? Learn how Robyn was able to heal her low-vibration life and over 21 different diseases by practicing high-frequency exercises. "Everything has a specific frequency; even a thought or an emotion. Everything in life is vibration. Even Nikola Tesla said, 'If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.” - @Robyn_Openshaw http://bit.ly/wfpodcast When you buy the autographed hardcover book, VIBE, we’ll send you the Vibe Accelerator Video Masterclass (value $75) plus $89 in Bonuses FREE! In Vibe, bestselling author Robyn Openshaw reveals the difference between low vibration emotions (fear, anger, inertia) and high vibration emotions (love, inner peace, gratitude) and helps readers dramatically impact their physical and mental well-being by raising their vibrational frequencies. Most of us are vaguely familiar with this concept, but we don’t realize the powerful implications this has for our choices every day—which foods to eat, how much water to drink, what we think about when we’re in the car or the shower, what our risk of disease is, and how we feel at any given moment are all affected by the power of vibration. Everything in health and wellness should revolve around the basic concept that what we choose to eat and what we choose to do lowers or raises our vibration. And that makes all the difference. Robyn Openshaw’s new book VIBE will teach you how to: Use your natural energetic powers to attract more amazing people and opportunities into your life. Eat “high frequency” foods for energy that requires no stimulants. “Ground” and “charge” daily in just a few minutes (powerful anti-depressant). The various forms of energy that modern medicine uses to help and heal people in the form of lasers. Josh's results from the Frequency Quiz he took from her book, Vibe. The individual frequency that you're putting out every single day of your life and how that affects the people around you. The energetic frequencies that happen in the body when it comes to relationships, nutrition, and performance Why feelings of shame and guilt exist for a reason but we don't have to allow them to hijack our system. Various vibration and frequency exercises practiced at the HeartMath Institute. Her low-vibration life during her 20s and how she faced an accumulation of over 21 different diseases. both mental obstacles and physical struggles. How you can get yourself into the perfect flow state thanks to good nutrition and high vibrations. The environment she grew up in and how that affected choices she made during her 20s. How to control your mindset and emotions through higher vibrations. The fact that the average lifespan of an emotion is just 90 seconds. How to locate your emotion, name it, and figure out why you're feeling it. Skills you can develop to be able to deal with your vulnerability and sad emotions. An example of how she came up with a solution to deal with someone who annoyed her rather than getting angry at him. Why it's harder to let go of negative emotions as adults compared to when we were children and why giving love to other people feels like work for some people. How you can develop high vibration characteristics and why breath can transform fear into excitement. How a detox helped her let go of deep hurt that experienced as a child. The foods and smoothie ingredients she recommends the most to stay at a heavy vibration frequency. Power Quotes From The Show "Like attracts like and resident frequencies attract each other. So, sometimes you can be attracted to somebody who you think is very different than you but that's not the point. The point isn't sameness; it's resident frequencies." - @Robyn_Openshaw http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Vibration is an actual quantifiable thing even if it's not very tangible because you cannot necessarily see it. However, everything is emanating energy because everything actually is energy. Einstein has said, 'Everything in life is vibration,' and nobody understood what he said, but even today standard of care medicine is using energy in the form of lasers to operate and heal." - Robyn Openshaw "So much of our misery is self-created because we don't just flow with change. We need to learn how to let go of more things. I'm not saying, 'Don't try hard and don't have values;' I'm saying that there are so many things that you are clinging to that are not serving you and if you let the energy flow through, let it teach you what it's going to teach you. It might cause you pain and suffering but not for years and years." - Robyn Openshaw "Anger is a fake emotion. Usually, when we're angry we're actually really hurt and sad. For some reason, it's more macho and socially acceptable to show anger but when we show our sadness and authentic self, you get a far better response from other people. We do have negative emotions for a reason whether it's anger or sadness and they're not bad; they're just going to cost you over time as they become chronic emotions and they don't ever move through you unless you work with them."- Robyn Openshaw "Taking a deep breath is as simple and powerful as anything there is. Taking several deep breaths just allows you to oxygenate the whole body. Too many of us are suffering from anxiety and we find ourselves shallowing breathing for hours at a time. Breath turns fear into excitement." - Robyn Openshaw Links From Today's Show Robyn Openshaw Facebook LinkedIn Green Smoothie Girl Twitter Instagram YouTube Vibe Book Offer Vibe with Robyn Openshaw – Podcast Bioenergetics “The Biggest Loser” Bob Harper Changes His Position on Low-Carb Diets Robyn’s Favorite Things The Vibrational Frequencies of Essential Oils Does Food Really Have a Vibration? 203 Brian Mackenzie: The Art of Breath
Breathing is the physiological intercept to our mental state. So, if things are going haywire, I can turn back to my breathing and control the physiological reactions that are happening in my mind. If I can take a step back and do that, I'm actually fixing the entire system. - Brian Mackenzie How can you enhance your health through nostril breathing versus breathing through the mouth? Is technology a crutch to how you eat, move, and sleep? JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE On Wellness Force Radio episode 203, the mind behind The Art of the Breath Clinics, Co-Founder of Power Speed, Endurance, and Co-Author of Unplugged, Brian Mackenzie, shares why breathing is a by-product of what's going on in the brain, how to be more mindful of technology use, and how we can change our state of mind at any moment we choose. Discover the process of rewiring the subconscious mind through conscious training, breathwork, and heightened awareness. "There's an integrative piece in the body that breathing is a by-product of what's going on in the brain. Our emotions, pain, or what we're cognitively thinking is actually our respiration rate if we're not consciously aware." - @brianmackenzie http://bit.ly/wfpodcast The Art of Breath Are you ready for the tools that will change your game? Sign up now to participate in an upcoming The Art of Breath clinic. In less than a day you can learn the exact tools to perform better, manage stress & improve health. Imagine being able to mix it with the big dogs in a workout and not get gassed. Imagine being able to reduce your stress in less than 10 minutes in the comfort of your own home or at your work desk. Imagine being able to maximize your Oxygen usage to become a fatigue resistant machine. You can do all this. But you need the tools. That is where the Art of Breath comes in. At an Art of Breath clinic, you will learn: Why you should breathe through your nose during your training so you can go harder and faster for longer. What the diaphragm is and what it does because it may be the most important muscle you’re not using. How to increase your tolerance to carbon dioxide because it is the key to accessing your fuel stores. How to mobilize your upper back so you can use your lungs to their fullest. How your breath is the key to your mental state so that you can manage the stress of everyday life. How to use breath work into training sessions so that you, or your clients, can enjoy the power of the breath. Listen To Episode 203 As Brian Mackenzie Uncovers: What he is currently working on with breathwork and the mind. How to be more mindful of technology use. How we can change our state of mind at any moment we choose. Why we're almost using technology as a crutch for our natural sensory units. How to use non-meditative methods to enhance your state of mind. The process of rewiring the subconscious mind through conscious training and heighten awareness. How we can alter our minds in the present moment in order to re-focus on the task at hand. A common thread between improper breathing and poor performance. The concept that everything is everything and it all can be integrable to the point where anything from breathing to posture affects who we are. Why technology cannot ultimately replace our internal awareness. His thoughts on mouth taping and whether it's beneficial or not. How he trained himself to no longer breathe through the mouth as he slept. Cueing nostril breath practices vs. breathing through the mouth and when one is more appropriate than the other for high performance What you can gain and learn from training yourself to only breathe through the nostrils. The fact that the yoga world has been focusing on breathing solely through the nostrils for ages. Power Quotes From The Show "Meditation is a practice that you put into play that becomes a part of what you're doing. I can breathe, visualize, or focus on some sounds. We need to make these changes in the moment so that we can refocus on the task at hand." - @brianmackenzie http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "By design, we want comfort and we want life to be easy. Just look at the world we live in today. It's so easy today to get food or whatever we want at any given moment but go back a hundred years and it wasn't possible. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it but we get so focused on what is making things easy and comfortable that we forget that the only reason we make change is because of discomfort. Getting caught in that, we get afraid of stepping outside our comfort complex of technology." - Brian Mackenzie "I daily catch myself spending too much time on my phone but I know what I need to do as a result of that. So, if I've been on my phone for too long, I know I need to take a visual break because my visual system actually works with my physiology and my entire body reacts. In those situations, I do a breathing pattern, look 20 feet away from me in the distance, listen to music, or go outside to easily change what I'm doing for a few minutes to instantly improve how I feel." - Brian Mackenzie "Meditation is a practice that you put into play that becomes a part of what you're doing, but I can breathe, look at my visual system, or focus in on some sounds. I can do a lot of things in the moment and this is what we're really trying to teach. We want to be able to make these changes in the moment so that I can focus on what I need to or be open to what I need to do." - Brian Mackenzie "Technology is only being used to get us back to what it is that we're capable of actually doing ourselves. Technology is going to help and allow us to do a lot more, but how far are we removing ourselves from these basic physiological responses? Technologically is going to allow us to get back to that place." - Brian Mackenzie "Everybody has a response to fear. Even Navy SEALS have the exact same response that you and I have and these are the supposed to be the people who aren't afraid of anything, but that's not true; we're all the same and we all have the same reaction. It's about how fast they come back to their baseline. Most of us have a great jolt of fear and then it takes awhile to come back down or we need to be in that state of anxiety or sympathy for a longer period of time. That's where our breathing is playing the biggest role." - Brian Mackenzie Links From Today's Show Brian Mackenzie Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube LinkedIn The Art of Breath Power Speed Endurance Unplugged Unbreakable Runner Power Speed ENDURANCE How to Be Mindful When You Have Seasonal Allergies Brian Mackenzie on the Effects of Breathing on Recovery Brian MacKenzie on the Benefits of Nasal Breathing, Downregulation & More! It's important to really be conscious about how you want to approach your meals. You can look at it being reactive vs. proactive. If I want to take things to the next level, for me that means doing some work up front with batch cooking. It does take some work, but then meal prepping actually helps me save time in the long run and makes life easier. - Allison Schaaf JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE Tired of overthinking, stressing, and wasting time thinking about what you're going to have for dinner each night? Her experience with transcendental meditation training and what positive changes she has noticed in herself. How to shift your mindset on whether or not you can actually add batch cooking into your routine. Power Quotes From The Show "I have to eat as healthy as my clients and in order for me to do that, I had to take my own meal prepping to the next level. I just had to implement that system to help me reach my own goals." - Allison Schaaf of @PrepDish http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Batch cooking ultimately helps you set yourself up for success. Choose a consistent day and time each week for when you can do your meal prep. Even if you just chop vegetables in advance, it really makes life easier and makes you more likely to include vegetables with each meal if they're already prepared ahead of time." - Allison Schaaf "Going to a grocery store with a list is key because that's where so much time is wasted during the week. If you have to take an extra trip to the grocery store, your losing time. There are a lot more options now to make grocery shopping more efficient such as grocery delivery or online shopping. Plus, ordering online will helping meal prepping so much easier by planning in advance. At Prep Dish, we're also thinking of different ways of making that grocery experience super efficient but it all starts with making a list." - Allison Schaaf "People jump into batch cooking thinking they have to do it, want to do it, or need to do it but can't find the time to actually do it. So, you first have to believe in the idea that this is going to help save you time later on, this is why I want to do it, and this is why it's important to me instead of thinking of it as something that you should do. Stop seeing it as something you should be doing and think of it as something you want to be doing." - Allison Schaaf "Having a meal prepared in advance that includes the core pieces of vegetables, protein, and healthy fats will help you avoid eating an unhealthy meal when you're stressed. 201 Michael Gervais: Finding Mastery
An authentic expression of oneself is right at the center of what mastery looks like and feels like. That is available to all of us, but it requires an inward journey. There's a real journey that's required to get to the core insights of what makes you 'you.' Fulfillment, peace, happiness, and high performance all happen in the present moment. - Dr. Michael Gervais JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE Is there a common thread connecting how the greatest performers in the world use their minds to pursue the boundaries of human potential? In Wellness Force Radio episode 201, licensed psychologist, Co-founder of Compete to Create, and Podcast Host of Finding Mastery, Dr. Michael Gervais, explains what 'cognitive shifting' is, how you can facilitate the right amount of stress in order to adapt and improve, and how you can get started on your own spiritual path to create more space for yourself. By the end of this episode, you'll be equipped with the tools to train the internal noise, self-dialogue, and meaning-making machine that is your mind. "Relationships are at the center of us becoming our very best and it starts with the relationship that we have with ourselves first." - @michaelgervais of @CompetetoCreate http://bit.ly/wfpodcast Finding Mastery explores how the best in the world master their craft. Host and high-performance psychologist, Dr. Michael Gervais, interviews people excelling in the most hostile environments to discover the mental skills used to push the boundaries. Listen To Episode 201 As Dr. Michael Gervais Uncovers: What you can do to better handle ongoing distractions in your life. Why multitasking doesn't exist and its true name is, 'cognitive shifting.' What it actually means to say, "I'm busy," today compared to in the past. The old wealth of material possessions compared to the new wealth of being able to have a quality life experience. The importance of people sharing their own experiences of self-discovery and how they've connected the mind, body, and soul. How the human body is able to maintain so much stress for so long and how it can let go of those negative emotions. The process of creating adaptations by utilizing the right amount of stress. Why people have such a hard time with being emotional and vulnerable. The messages that the ancient brain feeds you when you are feeling devastated by rejection or an extreme event and whether or not we can overcome that. Why betrayal is the thing that we're the most afraid of. Being authentic and truthful about what happens to you and your emotions. What it means to be human and to perform to our optimal potential. The time that we can allow ourselves to be able to go to the gym, meditate, eat healthily, and focus more on our wellness. How we can find and express our true selves through the work that we do. Why there's no such thing as rivalry and we really need everyone to help us become the best version of ourselves. His experience teaching mindfulness through meditation to top businesses. How to overcome your fears through systematic desensitization. What you can do to get started on your own spiritual path to create more space for yourself. Mindset training and how to go about it in your own terms. Power Quotes From The Show “The work is not to avoid stress. The work is to ask and understand, ‘How do I stop creating stress that is not needed and how do I facilitate the right amount of stress so that I can create adaptations?’ “-@michaelgervais of @CompetetoCreate http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "The new currency is attention. Today we are aware that multitasking doesn't exist and it's actually called 'cognitive shifting.' When we shift cognitively from one thought or activity to another, there's cost to it. There's a cost of time and a cost of depth. So, multitasking is a symptom of wanting to do a lot in life. Being busy used to be a badge of honor but it's no longer like that. When we say we're busy, it doesn't mean that we're in high demand and we're doing good work; it means that we're not organizing our life purpose well enough and we haven't figured out how to have dignity and regard for the way we spend our time as far as quality and quantity." - Dr. Michael Gervais "The old wealth was having a big car, nice watch, and getting a lot of attention, but the new wealth today is not that. The new wealth is the output of the quality of the inner experience. Today, people are deeply committed to exploring the nuances of their talents." - Dr. Michael Gervais "The idea is not to escape stress but to understand how we create it and how we work with it. No one is going to get good at anything without a little stress. Stress is really about change and eventual adaptation. So, what we're really looking for is the ability to trust ourselves in the present moment so that we can be present enough to embrace the unpredictable, unfolding unknown which is always right now. That's not easy to do; especially when we have this internal noise, self-dialogue, and meaning-making machine of our mind that's often times undisciplined because it's untrained." - Dr. Michael Gervais "If the new currency is attention, there is no 'extra.' Attention is what allows us to come back to the present moment and we need the mental skills to be able to do that. Therefore, there is no time for anything 'extra' because there's always an option to do more and I think many of us have come to be based this way based on the Industrial Revolution and we have this intense pride of work. This idea that we always have to be working hard around the clock has migrated across several generations. We've come to believe that we need to do more in order to be more. We can do all we want, but it will never provide what it feels like to be 'you.' For episode 200, we spotlight 10 of our favorite moments over the past 200+ interviews, to pull the gems of wisdom, moments of laughter, and the real-life action steps that I've learned to both trust and believe in. I want to share my truth: This entrepreneurial and podcast path has not been 100% rainbows. Even since early childhood, I have known, deep down, that I march to the beat of a different drummer. Maybe you feel that too, and that’s why you’re here. I’ve faced inner and outer demons I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and since I woke up in 2011, I’ve done some really, really, hard work to let go of old stories about genetics, beliefs, and the people and things that don't serve my wellness. But yet as hard as this has been, I’ve also learned that when you operate from a place of love and service to others, and if you really want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. This podcast has been my home, my work, and my life for 3 years now, and today, I get to give thanks to YOU. Top 10 Wellness Force Guests Aubrey Marcus In episode 196, CEO of Onnit and the author of Own The Day, Own Your Life, Aubrey Marcus, reminds us that we have the power to move on from the past. We were not the same people that we were before and we don’t have to allow our past to define and label us. It is Aubrey’s mission to help each person understand that they have the ability to make their life their own. By giving people the tools to transform their work, relationships, and wellness, he’s helping create a world of optimized individuals who are looking to become the best versions of themselves. Jason Prall Our next guest is Director, Writer, and Producer of the 9-hour documentary series, The Human Longevity Project, Jason Prall. 199 Peter Crone: Bridging Physical Vitality & Mental Peace
If you're feeling a certain way, you're going to know to a certain degree what state you're in. If you're feeling sad, apathetic, resigned, or depressed, these are all indicators that you're in some form of resistance. Realizing that is actually a gift because how else are you going to know what your relationship is with reality? Conversely, if you're feeling joy, freedom, or a sense of peace or love in your relationship, these are references to the soul or true essence of who you are. That is your guiding force. - Peter Crone JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST 20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE How can daily emotional hygiene practices help you stop the negative emotions, thoughts, and anxieties you might be hoarding in your mind? In Wellness Force Radio episode 199, leader in human potential and performance, Founder of Be Alive, and Mind Coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Peter Crone, reveals his own practice for emotional hygiene, what the 6 Stages of Disease are, and why living with a 'good vibes only' attitude all the time is impossible. Discover how inner child work can help you to pause and reflect in order to create a better understanding of your suffering and heal the relationship with your ego. "A failure is an event; not a person. It's just something that happens. The way that we articulate events is usually to our detriment and it's where the ego reinforces its sense of inadequacy. Failure is just something we did or didn't do." - Peter Crone http://bit.ly/wfpodcast Whether we realize it or not - we exist within mental constructs. Albeit invisible, they dictate our thoughts, feelings, actions, and consequently results. All psychological problems, suffering, and unfulfilled desires are the byproduct of these invisible mental constraints. To create an extraordinary life, we have to both consciously reveal the current limiting frameworks of our perceived reality as well as create new contexts for an expanded existence. In order to realize our potential, it’s necessary to step outside of the world as we know it, which naturally brings with the new possibilities of an entirely new experience of oneself and life. Peter’s work breaks through these constraints and takes a mindset of surviving to one of thriving. Peter has worked with corporations, individuals, and athletes by offering them assistance as a Mind Coach in: 1-on-1 Coaching Intimate Conversations Digital Programs Corporate Speaking & Workshops Listen To Episode 199 As Peter Crone Uncovers: How he helps top performers be able to heal and trust others. His inspiration to ask others, "Is that true? Is the thought that you're thinking actually true?" How you can embrace your humanity and the capabilities you were born with. The currency of attention and how he decides what he needs to focus on. Issues with social media and 'liking' something and getting attention from others. How his parents' deaths lead him to isolation and dealing with the experience of physical separation. His own practice for emotional hygiene each day and his advice for others. Why yoga isn't about the physical aspect but rather the focus of self-realization. The 6 stages of disease and how he avoids it through emotional hygiene. How humans can be hoarders in their minds and what you can do to end it. Mental hoarding tendencies in professional players and how he helps them to deal with it. His experience working with the professional Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. The relationship that he has with his own ego and his observations of professional athletes dealing with their egos. Inner child work practices that you can use in order to pause, reflect, and see the reality of your suffering. Why we suffer when we don't want things that are the way they are. How the everyday athlete can use emotional hygiene tools to improve their performance and life. Why living by only happiness or 'good vibes only' is impossible unless we do the actual inner work and we can choose our emotional state. What he's most excited about with working with professional baseball players. How he defines 'happiness' and why he prefers the word, 'joy.' His views on social media and why he isn't involved in it yet. Power Quotes From The Show "We can either focus on where we're seeking attention or where we're putting our actual attention. I put my attention on what I'm creating. I just don't think about what people think of me. I just know what I do and the difference I make." - Peter Crone http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "In terms of helping, I allow people to embrace their humanity. So, regardless of their abilities or talents, I help them to bridge the gap between this man-made, fabricated image that supersedes any human capacity and their humanity. Many people become so blown up by their ego that their downfall is them trying to sustain it which is just impossible." - Peter Crone "If you look at social media and the actual mechanism of 'liking' something, it's really saying, 'like me.' Talk about attention seeking! To me, that is a facet and an extension of the egoic part of a human being which by design is not liked, is not loved, and is not enough. So, here is this external validation which will never ever actually overcome the belief that 'I'm not that.' This is the catch; this is the addiction that we can never get enough of something that almost works. It doesn't matter if you have a million likes; you want to get 1.5 million likes because you're being driven by something that is inherently not something." - Peter Crone "The ego doesn't want to be healed; it wants to be held. By its design, the ego is an entity that we human beings have and its foundation is inadequacy, scarcity, and insecurity. These are just the qualities of the ego and if we can accept that, then we can be the bigger being and be aware of its presence in order to hold space for it. The ego is just like a child that needs to be held and hugged when it becomes upset. When the human adult has their woes and their sadness, they tend to judge and resist. That's where a lot of the suffering comes from." - Peter Crone "Suffering is resistance and resistance is suffering. When we don't want things that are the way they are, we're going to suffer. I have this intimate relationship with reality; I allow things to be what they are and simultaneously I consider myself the master of my own destiny. Not in an egotistical control way, but I am doing the best I can to generate, create, and design the life that I choose. It doesn't always work out but there's harmony in that." - Peter Crone "Even though it looked like my friend was experiencing sadness when she found out that her grandfather had passed away, to me, it was a reflection of love. That to me is freedom versus happiness on a positive scale. There's something beautiful about grief or missing somebody you love. That to me is the full gambit of human experience and that's joy. I'm not resisting any of my feelings; I'm allowing allow of my feelings to be shared." - Peter Crone Links From Today's Show Peter Crone YouTube Be Alive Workshops and Speaking Topics with Peter Crone Banyan Botanicals Byron Katie Heal Documentary Official Trailer Peter Crone on Living an Inspired Life 'Chief Inspirer' Peter Crone works his magic on Jacobson, Howell MLB Interview: JD Martinez and Mind Coach Peter Crone Mental approach raises Goldschmidt's game Paul Goldschmidt Doesn't Care If You Don't Know Who He Is Guinea Pig of Love: The Mind Architect Experiment Master Golf's Mental Game About Peter Crone Peter Crone is a thought leader in human potential and performance as well as the founder of Be Alive. Power Quotes From The Show [tweetthis]"Fitness or nutrition challenges can actually feed addictive personalities and perfectionism rather than help people create a healthier lifestyle. It's about finding a balance." - Allison Melody of @FoodHealsNation http://bit.ly/wfpodcast[/tweetthis] "Everyone's rock bottom is different, but it doesn't matter because once you hit that point, you finally realize that you have to make a change. My rock bottom was when my father was sick and I was afraid of losing him. What I realized through that process was that I could only change myself; I can't help someone else until they want to help themselves." - Allison Melody "Where are the lobbies for healthy, fresh food because right now we're in a space in which you have to follow the money and that's controlled by big pharmacy and agriculture companies. When those companies are controlling what you see, believe, and eat, then you don't know how to look outside the bubble that you're in. That's how it was for my parents and for so many people today. I want to help people break out of their bubble." - Allison Melody "When you do an elimination diet, you can see what your body is feeling better about. Many people don't realize that they may have specific sensitivities to foods like avocado. So, we may think we're doing something right by eating it, but then we feel ill because the body is sensitive to that particular food. Once you discover that, you can change your diet accordingly to your needs. Everyone's diet is different; even my dietary needs are totally different than yours." - Allison Melody "It didn't matter if I was drinking green juice every day, my emotions were reeking havoc on my body. These negative emotions can chronically lead to disease if we don't deal with them. So, I had to start dealing with them through a meditation practice, inner child work, therapy, and counseling. I had to discover all of these healing modalities for healing my emotions and feelings. When we feel our feelings, it creates space to release and heal. It creates more space for greater things in our lives and happiness. When we push it all down, that's the tragedy that may cause cancer before all of the processed food does." - Allison Melody "I'm also evolving in my own health journey. I've been able to overcome some of my own things and so can you. We're all always evolving, always changing, and always trying to improve ourselves. I'm constantly trying to better myself, get more knowledge, and be stronger in my convictions." - Allison Melody Links From Today's Show Allison Melody Facebook Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Food Heals Nation Facebook Twitter Instagram Food Heals Podcast Food Heals Nation Podcast episode 180 Katie Krimitsos Food Heals Documentary Melody Productions The New Media Summit The Beyond Burger Joel Salatin and Polyface Farm Proteinaholic The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Keith Immovable Heart Unstoppable Mind by David Zappasodi WFR 071 Melissa Hartwig WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 171 Liz Germain WFR 179 Josh Tickell About Allison Melody The topics she addresses through her work are powerful and heart-centered and focus on Holistic Health, Social Justice, Human Rights and Animal Rights.
