192 Jason Prall: The Human Longevity Project

When it comes to health, it's more collective than individual. You become a product of your environment and it's very easy to be healthy in these Blue Zone areas because that's the way of their life. We have to look at the situation of these healthier places and understand that their culture and societal norms facilitate health. That's easier to do when it's a small society because in a village, everyone has a responsibility and everyone is relying on each other so it's more like a family unit. It's more difficult to be healthy in the USA because you have to do all of the work on your own. We've gone astray as a culture because we've lost our sense of community and societal values due to technology. - Jason Prall What do other cultures have that the USA doesn't as far as increased human health, love, interaction, and longevity? Radio podcast as well as Director, Writer, and Producer of the 9-hour documentary series, The Human Longevity Project, Jason Prall, shares what he's learned from observing five different Blue Zone cultures when it comes to both physical and emotional intelligence, happiness, and wellness. Discover what steps you can take to align the human brain with the soul to avoid chronic illness, increase your lifespan, and slow down the aging process.  [tweetthis]"The body used to be active while the mind was still. We cannot be healthy unless our outer environment is healthy. Everything that we do to the environment, we are doing to ourselves. It is a mirror and we can't escape it." - @JasonPrall of @LongeviTFilm http://bit.ly/wfpodcast[/tweetthis] THE HUMAN LONGEVITY PROJECT Click here to order The Human Longevity Project 9-hour documentary film series. The Human Longevity Project is an upcoming documentary film series that will take you on an exciting journey around the globe, on a mission to discover the secrets of the longest-lived and healthiest populations on Earth. Filmed over 2 years, in over 50 locations, in 9 countries, on 3 continents, this film will uncover the key lifestyle, environmental, and physiological components to avoid chronic disease, increase health span, and put the brakes on aging in our modern world. Featuring interviews from premier scientists, physicians, healers, and health experts – along with real-world footage from around the globe, we examined the daily routines and lifestyle practices that range from preconception to geriatrics, with much more observational and scientific scrutiny than ever before. We will scientifically demonstrate the recipe of a long, healthy life – and how to apply these lessons in our modern environment. At a time when populations of industrialized societies are seeing collective health, quality of life, and the health of the environment decline rapidly, the scientific information and lifestyle practices highlighted in this documentary are absolutely essential to reversing these recent trends and shifting the entire paradigm of chronic disease and destruction of the environment. In the last 70 years, the modern world has taken a turn for the worse. Our food, water, air, and soil have been decimated by toxic chemicals and metals. Our atmosphere is blanketed in electromagnetic radiation. Chronic mental and emotional stress has become the norm – and our society is fixated on the technological connection while authentic community dissolves.   Listen To Episode 192 As Jason Prall Uncovers: How creating the film, The Human Longevity Project, helped him both grow emotionally and increase his awareness. What similarities and differences they noticed between these various Blues Zones cultures that attributed to longevity in Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Ikara, Greece; Loma Linda, California; and Nicoya, Costa Rica. How you can train the human brain to be aligned with the soul. Why it's not worth it to spend your time stressed and worried about the future when you don't even know what will happen to you.  What you should be truly focusing on as an adult in order to really enjoy life. Why your first 25 years of life are the foundation of your health and wellness. What challenges and struggles other people have faced around the world from experiencing war first hand to poverty. The cultural differences he experienced in these Blue Zones compared to what society is like in the USA. What similarities and differences they noticed between these various Blue Zone cultures that attributed to their longevity. How our culture around food in the USA  has changed and affected our lives.  Why our lifestyle as a society in the USA isn't sustainable. The factors that play in the decline of human health, love, interaction, and longevity.  The shift in younger generations and how it's creating societal problems. The importance of bringing functional movement into our every day lives to step away from the Internet and get back to the real world. What he's learned from 5 different cultures about living a long life full of health, love, and interaction. Why understanding what mitochondria and microbiota are: What guides their function plus why they are key to your health and longevity. What is known and not known about genetic expression and how that affects your metabolism when you eat certain foods. Why happiness is your decision and you can take steps to get to the state where you want to go. The next steps for him and his team as far as creating a community for people. What you will learn and take away from the documentary, The Human Longevity Project. Power Quotes From The Show [tweetthis]"People are going on these digital detox retreats to try to get back to a normal state of mind. We've gone so far off track that we've forgotten what it's like to connect and technology has propelled us in that direction." - @JasonPrall of @LongeviTFilm http://bit.ly/wfpodcast[/tweetthis] "We fear a future that hasn't even happened yet and we don't know what the outcome is going to be like. Literally, what you do, think, and feel today is what's going to create that fear. So, the longer you sit with that fear, there's a higher chance that those emotions are going to manifest within you and you'll become them. Just reflecting and becoming aware of your emotions will allow you to let go of your fears and let you see how silly they are really are." - Jason Prall "We've created a culture where we're constantly criticizing, comparing, and judging one another. When we look at Facebook and Instagram, who feels confident anymore? Not many people because we're constantly being compared to everybody else and criticized through social media and the Internet. I think we've lost a lot of confidence in who we are and we don't know how to find out who we are because we've lost meaning in our society and culture. We're looking for meaning in the wrong places." - Jason Prall "At the end of the day, these regions and Blue Zones don't matter. Regions don't create longevity; it's what people are doing that builds a healthy lifestyle and we have to learn these same qualities. These places that are known for their longevity aren't going to be known for that 20 years from now. They're going downhill fast and there's a reason that has nothing to do with where they live; there's nothing special about it other than the humans that live there and the decisions they make to live their life." - Jason Prall "Health is innate and it's built within you. Your body is meant to be healthy and we have to start to facilitate that function. We have to allow that to occur and get out of the way a little bit. We have to get out of this mindset that health is all about results and we can only be happy when we reach a goal. If we are constantly focused on the end product and the results in order to feel fulfilled and happy, we're going to run into trouble. First, you have to accept that you decide your happiness; not anybody else. It's literally your decision and if you're not happy right now, that's your choice. " - Jason Prall "Being healthy is very simple, but we make it complex. The process can be difficult to get there, but the answers are easy. We just have to let our guard down and get out of our own way so we're not making being healthily complicated for ourselves. There aren't any shortcuts to getting healthy either. Every time we take a shortcut, we're missing an opportunity. A quick fix sounds amazing, but most people end up broken again and they still end up being unhappy. 191 Mary Shores | Conscious Communications: Harnessing The Power of Your Word

Words are a mirror to our subconscious. So, when you hear me say, 'I want to write a book,' you can see that written on my soul like it's my purpose. However, I have a big problem when the next words that come out of my mouth are, "but I'm not a writer," because those words are also a mirror to my subconscious. Those negative words are revealing that somewhere and somehow, I have a belief that does not support me ever reaching that goal of becoming a writer. To change that belief, I need to invest in myself. - Mary Shores How can you stop your negative thought patterns in order to rewrite your story and live life to its fullest? JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE On Wellness Force Radio episode 191, thought leader, motivational speaker, and author of Conscious Communications, Mary Shores, shares why your words and thoughts hold so much significance in your overall wellbeing. As you listen, you will be equipped with the tools and strategies to uncover your subconscious thoughts, rebuild your neural network, and plant new seeds of beliefs about yourself. Discover how you can cleanse your mind in order to get back into alignment with the life that you deserve. "Our words are actually a way of self-programming our sub-conscious mind and that's where the real power is." - @mary_shores http://bit.ly/wfpodcast Conscious Communications Get your own copy of Conscious Communications by Mary Shores Whether we realize it or not, the words we use dictate and control our lives. The persistent messages we repeat can frame our thoughts and trap us into a mindset that is difficult to break. This mindset often manifests itself with statements like “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” and “I’ll never find the [insert the blank] I want.” Many times, we don’t stop to consider the profound impact that these negative, limiting words have on our mentality, life choices, and the path of possibility that we manifest. After gathering years of research and personal experience with how words affect individuals mentally and emotionally, business owner and communications specialist Mary Shores realized that there is a life-changing theme persistent throughout ancient traditions and spiritual foundations that are supported by scientific professionals. They all agree on one recurring truth: Words have the power to create and transform. Mary took her discoveries and created easy-to-follow, step-by-step practices that can transform each area of your life. Based on two decades of research, Mary teaches how you can create new neural pathways simply by changing your words. You can align your words, thoughts, and actions to produce the results you want. Conscious Communications can show you how! Conscious Communications is your guide to creating a life in alignment with your dreams and desires. With thoroughly tested exercises, research, advice, and personal stories, you will begin to experience the tremendous impact of words and how to utilize the right ones to unleash and unlock the power to create a new reality. Listen To Episode 191 As Mary Shores Uncovers: The power of language and the words that we use - how do they hold so much significance in our bodies and minds? Why what we say can reveal a lot about our subconscious thoughts. What drove her to study the Hebrew language and what she has learned about the power of words from her studies. How you can get out of your negative thinking and actually take action to accomplish what you want to do with your life. How you can build a new neural network by planting new seeds of beliefs in your mind. The effect that this modern world has on us by bombarding us with loads of stress and causing us to be more unhappy than ever. How complaining out loud actually keeps us stuck in a negative mind frame compared to if we speak positive thoughts. The healthy boundary between getting rid of negative thoughts and spiritual bypassing. What she disagrees with when it comes to positive psychology vs. personal growth development. How overcoming difficult obstacles in life allows us to receive the gifts of resilience, integrity, and character building. Tragic events that happened in her life and how she was able to overcome them. Whether or not events are neutral and if it's up to you to decide how they impact your life. What drove her to the success that she has today and whether that was from her pain or her love. How her negative energy was directly affecting her colleagues and how she was able to end that disconnection to build better relationships with them. The conversation she had with Chazz Palminteri of A Bronx Tale. How she uses the Cleanse or Clog strategy to help her focus on better nutrition, mindset, and behavior. What steps you can take to get back into Alignment with who you are and what you want. The Core Four - How to achieve the outcome you want by focusing on the four areas of life that need your full attention. How she's helping to change the debt collecting industry all over the USA. Power Quotes From The Show "When you take steps in the direction that you want, you're actively thinking about it and envisioning the end result in your mind. In everything you're doing, you're either moving towards what you want or you're moving further away." - @mary_shores http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "I have always believed that science and spirituality are talking about the same thing, but they're using two different languages. People don't need another Law of Attraction book. With my book, I wanted to teach people how they can take control of their own lives because the reality is that everything we say or do and every action we take or choice we make in the thinnest sliced moment of life is actually building our life like a set of Legos. The tiniest choices really make the biggest difference in our lives. Once you understand that, it's not even about the Law of Attraction anymore." - Mary Shores "When you plant a new seed in your mind, you can feed that seed to help it grow into new neural networks that will replace the old ones. Somehow we've been led to believe that when we create a new network, it takes years of psychotherapy and you have to rewrite old beliefs. What I've found to be true is that all I have to do is just stop feeding those old beliefs and plant the seeds of new beliefs, water them, and let them grow." - Mary Shores "We have to understand that the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves become our identity. So, if we're constantly feeding the tragic stories of our lives, I don't know how that's going to serve us other than to strengthen that neural network in our mind that keeps us turning into a victim versus understanding that the most beautiful part in each of our stories is how we moved on."  - Mary Shores "I've learned this ability to turn tragedy into triumph. I don't allow myself to feel defeated by my circumstances and I don't stay in that mindset for very long. When I evaluate a personal tragedy, I ask myself, 'How has this benefited me? How has this strengthened me? What do I have in my life that I wouldn't have had I not gone through that experience?' "  - Mary Shores "If 80% of the time you are making cleansing, connecting choices, I guarantee you that within about 45 days, you're going to start shaping a different life around you. You will start to become more aware of everything that's swirling around you like opportunities that may have been there the whole time. You didn't notice them before, but now you feel ready to take action because you're setting this foundation of always moving towards what you desire."  - Mary Shores Links From Today's Show Mary Shores Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Pinterest LinkedIn Conscious Communications by Mary Shores Free Conscious Communications Guidebook Priming Our Brains to Evolve with Mary Shores The Key to Turning Off Your Autopilot by Mary Shores Fearless Ambition Facebook Group Mike Dooley Abraham - Hicks Law of Attraction The Secret A Bronx Tale with Chazz Palminteri Heartline | The Monroe Institute Tony Robbins WFR 179 Josh Tickell About Mary Shores Mary Shores is the author of Conscious Communications: A Step-by-Step Guide to Harnessing the Power of Your Words to Change Your Mind, Your Choices, and Your Life. What you can do to stop over-complicating what it means to be healthy and how to get there. How to take a pause in order to not be in a rush and truly enjoy the moment. Power Quotes From The Show "Don't force the trim. We don't want you to solely focus on trimming or forcing the healthy part of Trim Healthy Mama. Healthy weight loss needs to take its own good time." - Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett of @TrimHealthyMama http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "I was obsessed with being healthy and being that strict actually wasn't allowing me to be healthy. I now realize that I made a lot of errors and I had no freedom in how I was living my life. Pearl taught me how to relax and because of that, I was able to regain my health. I used to have full on adrenal fatigue and I was becoming so sick until I started to just relax a bit more." - Serene Allison "As women, we obsess with being healthy because we also have a lot of insecurities thanks to the perfection portrayed in magazines. This perfection that we think we have to obtain in order to have security and to be enough for somebody, it doesn't have to be this way. You're already enough for who you are. We all have a duty to feel healthy and alive, but we don't have to reach for what's impossible." - Serene Allison "We find that with women, whether they're nursing, pregnant, or trying to lose weight, protein is key. It's important for substance and to be able to keep that blood sugar under control. Eating enough protein will help you feel satiated until the next meal without wanting to go for the Goldfish crackers." - Pearl Barrett "We aren't designed to protect ourselves. We're designed to give, give, and give. We all try our best to live healthy lifestyles, but if we solely focus on that and don't balance it out by giving to others, then we're not doing enough. I feel like we're not really celebrating the bodies that we have that are able to go through difficult moments and sacrifices unless we're willing to give to others." - Serene Allison  "I don't have to naturally be anxious or nervous. The scripture says, 'Take every thought captive.' Our thoughts are speaking to us all day and my negative thoughts about the future were constantly wearing down on my health. I realized that the way I think becomes who I am. So, now I take those thoughts captive and I don't allow them to come in and affect my way of life. How she was able to get in contact with Dr. Tim Brown and his own involvement in volleyball. Why height isn't a determining factor for success in volleyball; it's about heart and attitude. The example she's putting out for the world of volleyball right now. Differences between indoor and outdoor volleyball and why she chose outdoor volleyball. What it was like to grow up in an environment heavily focused on athletics. What fascinates her about wellness as a pro athlete. What posture issues she was experiencing before she started using Intelliskin and met Tim. The various injuries and forms of pain she has experienced and still feels. How she sets up her mindset whenever she experiences an injury. Why she's so vocal about her love of video games. What it means to be fearlessly authentic despite what other people believe. The example she's setting for teenagers, young adults, and future generations. How she remains true and centered in her beliefs around social media. What sports can teach us about life and how it drives us to improve and refine our character. How taking a breath and singing a song in her head helps calm her down and get rid of the negative voices in her mind. Her strong Christian faith and how that impacts how she sees life. How she gets over bad habits and picks up on new skills. How parents can instill this passion in sports and athletics in their children's interests. How she uses gaming as a way to recover, decompress, and recharge. Power Quotes From The Show "I fell in love with outdoor beach volleyball because it's just you and one other person on the court. The chemistry that goes into a partnership is so important. It's so vital to know that other person both on and off the court." - @kellyclaes3 http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Any type of a rotational athlete that's unilateral - a pitcher, quarterback, or volleyball player, there are inherent dangers to only playing with one side of your body. Whether right handed or left handed, we use one side of the body differently than the other. So, I encourage all my athletes to be ambidextrous and use both sides of their body because the body will become more balanced that way." - Dr. Tim Brown  "My love of video games is what makes me 'me' and I think everybody's interests are different and whatever you love, you speak more passionately about, you do better at it, and those are the things that you should advocate for and do. Don't try to be anybody else. If you see somebody else being successful in a field, but it's not your passion, then don't try to copy them just because they're doing it. Do what you love." - Kelly Claes "It's just a matter of taking the imbalances that volleyball creates and that life has created in Kelly and testing her body through movement methods that allow me to understand what's been overused and overstretched versus what's been underused and undertoned. 184 Scott Nelson: What Is Photobiomodulation?

We spend 93% of our time under artificial light; that's probably not a good thing, right? When we look at our ancestors who spent all their time outside, it makes sense that artificial light isn't healthy for us. So, the first thing you should do isn't' go buy a product like ours. Instead, go outside and get more natural sunlight; become more aware of how natural light is good for your body. Even if you're outside for just 5-10 minutes, you'll notice a difference in how you feel. If you don't notice it, then maybe you should invest in a light therapy device. - Scott Nelson  JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE How can light therapy bring so many wonderful benefits to your overall health and wellness? How light therapy can help improve men's testosterone levels and key benefits for women. How Joovv is more like a longevity tool than a skin tool. Why red light? Why not purple or amber? What's so beneficial of using red light? Are we getting enough natural light? How much are we actually consuming? Mitochondria function and health -  how light therapy can help it improve. How can you actually quantify the use of photobiomodulation; especially when it comes to mitochondria function? How they came up with the name, Joovv, and what kind of feedback they've been receiving about the product. What affects light therapy can have on cancer patients. Which athletes and biohackers are using Joovv for maximum performance. Why Joovv light therapy can actually enhance the retinol function in your eyes. What's the time limit for using Joovv per light therapy session? How close can you be to the device? Power Quotes From The Show "At its core, photobiomodulation is photons of light or certain wavelengths of light and studying how our bodies metabolize them and the different physiological inner workings of how we digest and metabolize light. Light is food. Photobiomodulation essentially allows your cells to do what they're supposed to be doing but at a heightened level. " - Scott Nelson "These specific wavelengths of light are helping our cells produce more energy. That's why photobiomodulation has such a long list of benefits. It's so extensive that it almost sounds too good to be true, but all of these benefits like skin health, muscle recovery, joint pain relief, cognitive function and more are all supported by peer-reviewed clinical literature." - Scott Nelson  "When people are researching about skin health, they might have this vanity concern. Even though this vanity concern exists, photobiomodulation is really more of a longevity and cellular health tool. If you chase the healthy behaviors and you actually do the things that fill you up from a physical and emotional space, the vanity concerns will be a by-product. However, if you only chase the vanity, your results are going to be limited." - Josh Trent   "At Joovv, we fundamentally believe that everybody should be getting more sunlight. Something like our device is a great hack, but everybody should be getting more natural sunlight. Unfortunately, it's just something that's harder to do in a climate like Minnesota's or the upper Midwest in general." - Scott Nelson  Links From Today's Show Scott Nelson LinkedIn Joovv Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Pinterest Medsider Radio Ben Greenfield on Joovv in Men's Health How To Triple Your Testosterone Production With Red Light How Does RED LIGHT Impact Arthritis & Joint Pain? 183 Dr. Kyra Bobinet | Living A Well Designed Life: 10 Lessons In Brain Science

I want everyone to see themselves as designers of their own lives because that's truly what we're doing. We're co-creating this reality and we're all an active part of it. Essentially, there are two types of people: designers and those who are still struggling with the concept. Brain science is really how your brain works and why it does what it does whereas design thinking focuses more on the future. Design thinking is what we can become and what we can transform ourselves into. - Dr. Kyra Bobinet JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE Do you want to change in some way, shape or form, but you're too comfortable fitting a specific mold of other people's expectations? In Wellness Force Radio 183, CEO and Founder of engagedIN, Author of Well Designed Life, and teacher of health engagement at the Stanford School of Medicine, Dr. Kyra Bobinet, shares how we can all live a well-designed life. As you listen to this episode, you will learn all about how to become a designer of your own life, your unique connection between the heuristic link and self-image, and how you can set yourself up for a future self that will thank your past self. Learn how your current self can live up to the expectations of your future self and how to create a life you will love.  Get Your Copy of Well Designed Life Click here to get your copy of Well Designed Life by Dr. Kyra Bobinet     I know what I should do...I just don't know why I don't do it."   This phrase captures a universal human experience--we can't always get ourselves to do what we know is best for us. In Well Designed Life, you will learn that the solution to this stumbling block resides in coupling two disciplines: brain science and design thinking. Brain and behavior sciences have exploded in recent years. This catalyzes new insights into why we do what we do--and how we can change.   Meanwhile, major advances in consumer technology, service industries, and public health are rapidly changing how we live. This boom of innovation has been fueled by a creative approach to solving problems called design thinking. We are living in the age of design--and designers are the new rock stars.   Dr. Kyra Bobinet brings together over 25 years of successfully designing interventions, products, and experiences that change lives--to empower you as the designer of your life. Dr. Bobinet has gathered her top ten key concepts from psychology, behavior, and neuroscience and shows you how to apply each of them to change your health, relationships, and well-being. Bobinet insists that the success or failure of changing our lives hinges on both understanding what's going on inside our head and applying the flexible mindset of a designer.   You have a choice: design your life or let it design you!   Infused with relatable narratives that are at once witty and gripping, professional and personal, Bobinet takes you on a journey through the origins of your self-image, motivations, decisions, and unconscious behaviors--leaving you with the keys to free yourself from your conditioning and lead a well-designed life. Listen To Episode 183 As Dr. Kyra Bobinet Uncovers: Her book, Well Designed Life, and the process she went through to write it. How she defines behavior change and how you can change your own behavior for the long-term. The difference between brain science and design thinking. The connection between the heuristic link and self-image plus their connection to behavior change. The difference between fast brain and slow brain; intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation; inspiration vs. motivation; and stable motivation vs. unstable motivation. How she was able to design her own life in order to step into her own for her family. Her unconscious stress and how her poor eating habits caused by the heuristic link affected her health. How she was able to apply design thinking to her life after facing various health concerns. Her advice for listeners to take the first steps towards redesigning their lives and how iteration actually helped her scenario. What the habenula is and how it functions as the record keeper of all your failures. What her narrative was in the past versus now in the present. How you can build the mindset of a designer and ignore the habenula. Why self-love is an excellent companion to your mindset and behavior. Your current self vs. your past self vs. your future self and how you can design your life around them accordingly. Why the A-Type personality and high performers have such a tight relationship between the past self and future self. Why the self-image of the future self is so important in moments of decision making. Why relapse should be recognized as a critical stage for behavior change and how you can face it. How suffering helps us either become more flexible or take on the role of the victim. How gaining emotional intelligence can truly strip you of your ego. What practical steps you can take after listening to this episode. Power Quotes From The Show "Our brains are super lazy and it wants to make everything a shortcut. So, the way you get ready in the morning is a heuristic. All those automatic, heuristic actions are meant to conserve energy so we can live our lives on autopilot for most things that we repeat every day. So, when you are exhausted or stressed, you're most likely going to use your fast brain and heuristics to get through decision-making moments. But the more you can think ahead and put the slow brain into action when scheduling your week, the more powerful your thinking is so that you don't have to make things up as you go through the week." - Dr. Kyra Bobinet "As a mother, I was unconsciously stressed so I would automatically go buy a chai latte every single day and I wouldn't burn it off because I was working on a laptop all the time. Having that warm, comforting drink of a tiny shot of caffeine with a huge amount of sugar really got me going in the morning and that was my treat to myself. But I wasn't doing any long-term thinking; this was my short-term reward. The brain is very good at short-term rewards and going through these dopamine cycles and it really kicked me into this addiction of chai lattes." - Dr. Kyra Bobinet  "The previous part of me didn't know that I had to design my life. Back then, I knew what I should have done, but I didn't know why I wasn't doing it and I didn't have a how to do it. What I notice between people who can design their behavior and those who cannot is that the people who can don't have to spend a year in frustrating feedback looks and constantly feeling bad about themselves for not doing what they know they should do." - Dr. Kyra Bobinet "The habenula in our brain basically tracks our failures. If we fail at something, we won't want to try it again because the habenula down regulates our motivation to try it again. The only way to get around the habenula is to iterate and to think that the story that you tell yourself is 'I'm just figuring it out. That's my job.' Not to do it, but to figure out how to do it." - Dr. Kyra Bobinet "Your self-image is the filter of everything you do and don't do. We just don't always know in the moment which self-image is governing. Is it the self-image of myself as this fiery and healthy person or as an overweight kid? We're constantly in the midst and struggle of different self-images. In the end, it’s really the self-image of the future self that is going to matter when the time comes. - Dr. Kyra Bobinet Links From Today's Show Dr. Kyra Bobinet Facebook Twitter YouTube LinkedIn Change Training Center  engagedIN Facebook Twitter Instagram Well Designed Life Course Well Designed Life by Dr. Kyra Bobinet Stanford School of Medicine Healing by Design: Kyra Bobinet, MD, MPH Mindfulness-based stress reduction Food Decision-Making: Effects of Weight Status and Age Habenula: Crossroad between the Basal Ganglia and the Limbic System Tao Te Ching Laurence Gonzales BJ Fogg WFR 048 Nir Eyal WFR 088 Dan Pardi About Dr. Kyra Bobinet When it comes to health engagement, Dr. Kyra Bobinet has 5 words of advice: be caring, authentic, and useful. By 2020, the global market for fitness-focused apps and devices is expected to grow to $30 billion. This means that more than ever, we’re looking at our wrists not only to check the time, but also to see how much we’ve moved, monitor our heart rate, and see how we’re stacking up against yesterday’s tallies. Our technology addiction has made us lose connection with what's going on around us. This is bad enough in the gym, but when we get outside, the constant checking of a tiny screen truly wreaks havoc, downgrading what should be a rich experience into yet another task we need to complete to meet our daily goals. And if we fall short, we feel inadequate. There’s also the issue of data inaccuracy, with many device makers now admitting that their gadgets provide only estimates. So why do we continue to obsess over data and treat it as gospel truth? Unplugged provides a blueprint for using technology to meet your health and performance goals in a much smarter way. In addition to sharing the performance expertise of Brian Mackenzie and the scientific insight of Dr. Andy Galpin, Unplugged features exclusive stories and advice from elite athletes and world-renowned experts like Laird Hamilton, Tim Ferriss, Kai Lenny, Kelly Starrett, Steven Kotler, Erin Cafaro, Lenny Wiersma, Dr. Frank Merritt, and Brandon Rager. Order The Book On Amazon "The Body of Knowledge" Podcast The Body of Knowledge is a serialized podcast featuring stories from the intersection of science and fitness. The show is produced in volumes and the chapters of each volume are released weekly. Listen To The Podcast About Andy Galpin Andy is a tenured Professor in the Center for Sport Performance at CSU Fullerton. He was born and raised in beautiful Rochester, WA and is a die-hard Seahawks, Huskies, & Mariner fan. RIP Sonics. As a youth, Andy played every sport at his disposal, excelling at Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field. While not playing, he worked at grocery stores, gas stations, hay fields, blueberry farms, and in the road construction business. It was during this time he discovered Strength & Conditioning. Andy took his limited talents to Linfield College to join their Football team and pursue a degree in Exercise Science. While he experienced great success in both (2004 National Championship and 2x Captain and immediate inductee into the "All Ugly" Team), the true reward of this time was the meeting of lifelong friend (Doug Larson). The two fed each other's pursuit of knowledge of human performance and led them to attend the University of Memphis for the Masters degrees in Human Movement Sciences. A bit of luck and excellent faculty mentoring led Doug and Andy to meet Mike Bledsoe and the man formally known as "Barbell Buddha" Chris Moore - all of which later led to the creation of the #1 Health & Fitness Podcast in the world Barbell Shrugged. It also marked the start of Andy's competitive Weightlifting (culminating in his 7th Place finish in the 2007 National Championships), Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu careers. Needing to know more about muscle, Andy spent 4 years studying the structure and function of human skeletal muscle at the single cell level, a feat which earned him a PhD in Human Bioenergetics in 2011. This also resulted in the friendship with frequent collaborator Dr. Jimmy Bagley and the ability to open up his own "Biochemistry and Molecular Exercise Physiology Laboratory" at CSU Fullerton. 181 Alissa Daire Nelson: The Power & Paradox of Vulnerability

Being vulnerable simply means admitting that you have challenges too. There's a difference between airing your dirty laundry and sharing some vulnerability. When you share vulnerability, there is a purpose of connecting and a solution-oriented talk rather than just complaining and feeling bad about yourself. If you're going on about how much you suck and how everything in your life is falling apart, there's no point in continuing on like this. You have to find a solution and make things different in your life. - Alissa Daire Nelson JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE Ready to discover what sets you apart from everyone else and discover your true strengths? The power of getting curious about other people instead of judging them to have a better understanding of where they're coming from. Why you have the potential to become great by being the best version of yourself. Power Quotes From The Show "Before I realized what my strengths were, I was always wondering what was wrong me and I was so good at emotionally beating myself up. I was going through a divorce when I found the book, Strengths Finder, which included a psychometric test. That book helped me to see that I did have potential and taught me how to use my strengths to unleash it. Knowing you're great is one thing, but then understanding how to leverage your strengths and apply them to your life is a whole other thing." - Alissa Daire Nelson "We have such a large capacity with this soul, body, and mind connection. I firmly believe that none of us are here as an accident. However, I don't believe that everything happens for a reason. God, a divine power, or whatever you believe in didn't have time to make junk. So, that means that there is something redeeming and amazing about you. I believe part of our journey is to figure out what that thing is and how we get to contribute to our world." - Alissa Daire Nelson "No matter how horrific or wonderful a situation is, you can use that for the betterment of your own life and the lives of other people. Great things can come from every situation, but you have to choose it. You may become the victim of a situation; however, you don't have to remain a victim for the rest of your life. A bad situation wasn't your fault, but it's your responsibility to move forward." - Alissa Daire Nelson "When you're ready to learn the lesson, the teacher will appear. So, you have to be ready for that lesson and be able to face it. Even if you're sort of feeling like a coward because you're so afraid, that can be what moves you forward along this journey to do something magnificent and different. You can start off easy; learning the lesson isn't a race. It's not about the end goal, but about the journey and what you experience from it." - Alissa Daire Nelson "Everybody is capable of greatness, but who's willing to do the work to get there? Greatness is there for the taking for every single one of us. Instead of trying to do something else, why don't you do something that you're great at? We have the potential to become better versions of ourselves every single day. We have to give up this idea that we have to be like this other person and just be ourselves instead." - Alissa Daire Nelson Links From Today's Show Alissa Daire Nelson Twitter Facebook LinkedIn YouTube Daire Success Coaching Facebook Frickin' Awesome Entrepreneur Podcast Episode 004: Dealing with Mom Guilt While Running a Business Maximize Your Strengths Podcast Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg Brené Brown Alison Armstrong Joseph Campbell WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 118 Mike Bundrant WFR 086 Mark Divine WFR 071 Melissa Hartwig WFR 048 Nir Eyal About Alissa Daire Nelson Alissa Daire Nelson is a dynamic and inspiring speaker, success coach, and podcast host of the StrengthsFinder-based podcast, Maximize Your Strengths. The best way to integrate wearables like Fitbit into your NEAT Factor. Power Quotes From The Show "So many people get caught up in the latest, new study or theory that comes out and they drop everything they're doing. People begin to eat low-sugar or cut this and cut that out of their diets. Those things might be helpful, but they're not going to apply to everybody. What if I like sugar and some carbs? You can't fit everybody into the same mold. Instead, we should teach specific principles that come across different dietary strategies for people who are Vegan, Keto, or Low-Carb." - Brian St. Pierre "A lot of us have this fear of taking the first step. 'What if I do it and it doesn't work?' We want people to approach the fundamentals as small experiments. You're just playing with these factors to see what happens. If it doesn't work, you can go back to doing something else." - Brian St. Pierre "What worked for us in high school or college doesn't work for us anymore as full-grown adults. Back then you didn't have a full-time job, bills to pay, or all these other responsibilities that you now have. Life circumstances really dictate what you're able to do, but there's always something that you can do to stay on track and sustain your healthy lifestyle." - Brian St. Pierre "The NEAT Factor is maybe the no. 1 correlation to why people do or do not change weight when they under or overeat. Research has shown that NEAT can vary by up to 2,000 calories a day between people which is an enormous difference." - Brian St. Pierre "Your feelings and your emotions are not separate from your body. Your emotions impact your physical world and vice versa. They may be separate systems, but they're fully integrated with each other. Impacting one will impact the other." - Brian St. Pierre Links From Today's Show Brian St. Pierre Facebook Twitter Precision Nutrition Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Google+ Pinterest Coach Brian St. Pierre of Precision Nutrition The High Performance Handbook Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Ultimate Hockey Transformation Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Show and Go Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Can Eating Too Little Actually Damage Your Metabolism? by Brian St. Pierre All About Nutrient Timing 23 Expert Tips to Help You Overcome The Most Common Coaching Challenges Use the NEAT Factor (Nonexercise Activity Thermogenesis) to Burn Calories Marianne Williamson WFR 131 Drew Manning WFR 084 Dr. David Perlmutter WFR 067 Dr. Jade Teta About Brian St. Pierre Brian is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and received his Bachelor’s in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Maine, where he also received his Master’s in Food Science and Human Nutrition. 179 Josh Tickell: Kiss The Ground

50% of our calories should be coming from fruits and vegetables. So, tell me why we use our land to produce less than 5% of fruits and vegetables in the United States? It's because it's 95% profit for big brands. Rather than growing the food here, they import food from cheap labor countries, but all that food has been sprayed a tremendous amount of chemical. As a customer, you're not saving  money with their method anyway; you're going to spend money later on a kidney dialysis, a heart transplant, on diazepam or whatever hundred drugs pharmaceutical companies are going to shove down your throat. - Josh Tickell JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  20% OFF ORGANIFI - USE CODE: WELLNESSFORCE How can healing ourselves through growing and eating more natural, nutritious foods also help heal the environment? On Wellness Force Radio 179, Film Director and Producer of documentaries such as FUEL and the upcoming Kiss The Ground film with Big Picture Ranch, Author of the book, Kiss the Ground, and Blogger of The Veggie Van Voyage, Josh Tickell joins us to share how we can reverse the effects of CO2 in the air by making changes on both a micro and macro level with our soil. From composting to voting with your wallet, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and tools to improve your carbon footprint on this planet. Kiss the Ground     Josh Tickell, one of America’s most celebrated documentary filmmakers and director of Fuel, has dedicated most of his life to saving the environment. Now, in Kiss the Ground, he explains an incredible truth: by changing our diets to a soil-nourishing, regenerative agriculture diet, we can reverse global warming, harvest healthy, abundant food, and eliminate the poisonous substances that are harming our children, pets, bodies, and ultimately our planet. Through fascinating and accessible interviews with celebrity chefs, ranchers, farmers, and top scientists, this remarkable book, soon to be a full-length documentary film narrated by Woody Harrelson, will teach you how to become an agent in humanity’s single most important and time-sensitive mission. Reverse climate change and effectively save the world—all through the choices you make in how and what to eat.   Listen To Episode 179 As Josh Tickell Uncovers: His experience working on organic farms as a WWOOfer. Where he got the idea of using a natural source instead of gas to fuel his van for the Veggie Van Voyage. What it was like to live next to an oil field growing up and the illness that his family was experiencing from all of the pollution.  The large number of cancer cases in Louisiana because of the oil production and witnessing his family members dying prematurely. His process of writing the book, Kiss the Ground, and what information is included in it. The reality of what the world looks like now as far as available land and fresh water. Why there's so much carbon dioxide in the air rather than in the ground and how we can reverse it. Why we don't look at measuring the environment by Parts per Million (PPM) anymore, but by gigatons or the measurement of mass. The problem with modern farming including pesticides, bees dying off, and the degradation of our soil. The fact that our agriculture industry got its start from the technology and science that came out of WW1. Why the health of the soil and our natural environment is so important for our own wellness. A basic test to see whether or not the soil in your city is healthy or not. How we can both heal ourselves and the soil on macro and micro levels. Why biology is the real answer to sustaining human life as the population continues to grow. The importance of composting and how people who live in big cities, apartments, or don't have much space can participate with vermicomposting. How we can be more proactive with growing our vegetables and restoring the soil on our properties. How the changes we make to help the soil can lead to improving the climate overall and restoring the ecosystem. Why we have the power in our own communities to get rid of pesticides usage. The fact that glyphosate is everywhere - in water, in the food, and in our bodies. Organic vs. Regenerative foods and what new food policies we could put in place. Power Quotes From The Show   "The new conversation is not about solar panels and wind; those things are happening, but they need to happen faster and we need more of that kind of green technology. The new conversation needs to focus on the fact that we have a 2,000 gigaton mass of carbon floating in the atmosphere. Where are we going to put that? It has to go somewhere." - Josh Tickell "We're basically dirt on legs. Roughly 50% of our cells are not human cells, but microbial cells and the same microbes that also live in soil. A handful of healthy soil has more living organisms than all humans who have ever lived." - Josh Tickell "If you are experiencing problems, one of the first things that this new wave of medical science will tell you is to increase your gut bacteria. So, how do you do that? The real gut bacteria actually comes from the soil. If that good gut bacteria is not in the soil, then it's not in your food and if it's not in your food, then it's not going in your gut." - Josh Tickell "Every time you eat, you make a political decision. So, we vote 3 times a day and what we're voting for is an entire system. This is a chain reaction that begins with a calorie that we consume, but it ends with a farmer or a rancher and a plant or an animal. If that plant or animal is building soil, then you're voting for a future of plenty of food for all people." - Josh Tickell "Food is politics Food is power. Food is activism. Food is life. Food is medicine. Food is nutrition. Food is reversing global warming. Food is your access right now. You go into a grocery store and you have access to buy all that food!" - Josh Tickell Links From Today's Show The Compost Story by Kiss The Ground Josh Tickell Facebook Twitter YouTube Kiss The Ground Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Big Picture Ranch Facebook Twitter YouTube Kiss The Ground by Josh Tickell The Soil Story by Kiss The Ground The Compost Story by Kiss The Ground How to Compost at Home WWOOF -Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms What is Organics? by Paul Chek Vegetarianism Inside & Out by Paul Chek Joel Salatin: Polyface Farms The Two Secrets to Weight Loss The Nobody Knows by Josh Tickell Hell's Cartel by Diarmuid Jeffreys Paul Hawken's Project Drawdown Harvard's Healthy Eating Plate & Healthy Eating Pyramid WFR 167 Michelle Norris WFR 121 Dr. David Minkoff About Josh Tickell According to Inc Magazine, Josh Tickell is "America’s #1 Strategist" for Connecting with the Millennial Generation (a.k.a. “Generation Y”). He is also a film director who specializes in movies geared toward Millennials.  Tickell grew up in Louisiana where he lived next to waterways polluted by petroleum refineries. In 1997 he captured national attention by driving a van powered by used French Fry oil across the United States. “The Veggie Van” as it was called was a viral sensation. Only four years after the first web browser was introduced (and AOL was still a novelty), Tickell’s FUEL won the Sundance Audience Award for Best Documentary and was released theatrically in the United States. FUEL became a global sensation gaining millions of viewers on Netflix, iTunes, Hulu and CNBC, Russia TV, TeleSur and beyond. The movie was screened in the White House for energy and environment staff working in the Obama Administration and was shortlisted for an Oscar. Josh Tickell directed the Cannes Film Festival movie, The Big Fix (2011). The film explores the corporate and political malfeasance that led to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. His third film, Freedom (2011), focuses on alcohol fuel and aired on the SuperChannel in Canada. His latest documentary PUMP (2014) exposes a conspiracy to block fuel choice at the gas pump and is being theatrically released by Submarine Entertainment. He is currently in production on Good Fortune (2015), The Official Biography of John Paul DeJoria, Co-Founder of Patrón Tequila and Paul Mitchell Systems. Today Tickell spends much of his time working for companies on strategies that engage members of the millennial generation. He achieves breakthrough results by modifying internal and external corporate practices to meet the desires and needs of Generation Y. By combining aspects of Corporate Social Value, Participation, Emotional Response and Product Design and Functionality, Tickell provides a wide variety of organizations with unprecedented success in connecting with members of Generation Y.
