222 Amber Rae: Shifting Shame Into Wonder
Wonder is what we're born with. We come into this world so curious in a space of discovery and adventure but then that is socialized and conditioned out of us. Between the system of education, media advertisements, and who we think we're supposed to be, we believe we have to show up a certain way to feel worthy and be loved by others. As we see more information and the way that the world exists, we begin to question whether we're good enough just as we are. That's when the worry starts and the inner voice asks, 'Am I good enough?' 'Do I matter?' 'Do I fit in here?' The thing about worry is that our brain is wired to worry. That's when we have to start asking ourselves, 'How do I reclaim and rewire for wonder?' - Amber Rae Is there such a thing as a good kind of worry? What are the differences between experiencing useful worry and toxic worry? Learn how Amber's 3 Cs - Curiosity, Courage, and Compassion can help you avoid anxious thoughts and become in tune with your natural wonder instead. "Not all worry is bad. Worry and fear are really here to protect us from danger. Worry is useful when we can take productive action and it's within our control." - Author of Choose Wonder Over Worry, @heyamberrae, on @WellnessForce Radio episode 222 http://bit.ly/wfpodcast Order your copy of Choose Wonder Over Worry From the powerhouse Mind Body Green calls "the Brené Brown of Wonder" comes a book that will shift the way we relate to ourselves and our emotions, and help us reach our full potential. "Amber Rae is the Elizabeth Gilbert of her generation." ―Stacy London, New York Times bestselling author of The Truth about Style WONDER is what we’re born with. WORRY is what we learn. NOW IS THE TIME TO RETURN TO WONDER. Why do we hold back from pursuing what matters most? Why do we listen to the voice inside our head that tells us we're not good enough, smart enough, or talented enough? How can we move beyond the fear and doubt that prevents us from creating a life that reflects who we truly are? CHOOSE WONDER OVER WORRY is your official invitation to face your fears, navigate your discomfort, and rewrite the "worry myths” in your mind that keep you from being your best and truest self. Journey with inspirational speaker and artist AMBER RAE as she connects you with your voice of worry and wonder, teaches you to listen to your emotions rather than silence them, and encourages you to seize your dreams. Through a thoughtful blend of vulnerability, soulfulness, and science, Amber Rae guides you in expressing the fullness of who you are and the gifts you’re here to give. You don’t have to be held back by Worry when Wonder awaits you every moment of every day. Worry or Wonder: which will you choose? Listen To Episode 222 As Amber Rae Uncovers: How you can go from worrying all the time to re-wiring your mind to wonder again. Her process of healing while struggling with her step-father wanting to really step into the role of her father. Her use of alcohol and Adderall while making her way through the music industry in Silicon Valley. Why she sought out approval, acceptance, and validation from men based on her relationship with her biological father and step-father. The demons her father faced during his lifetime and what similarities she has noticed between him and herself. The biggest lessons she has learned from her father both while he was alive and now thinking about how he lived. Why her book, Choose Wonder Over Worry, almost didn't get written. What questions you can start asking yourself when the sense of worrying creeps into your mind. Name It To Tame It - How naming the sensations you feel in our body and mind can help you stay present. Hellenism greek religion or idea that emotions visit you so that you can feel and then let them go. Why feelings are your friends that just come and visit you from time to time. The dangers of replacing a negative thought with a positive one without really creating the space to understand why it's there in the first place. The dangers of being the "Tone Police" and not allowing someone to fully feel and express their emotion even if it's a negative one like anger, stress, or frustration. How swapping and reframing from being the victim to taking responsibility can help let go of blame. How her inner intuition, wonder, and whispers led her to New York City and discover her artistic abilities. Why she began The World We Want and where she dreams of it going in the future. Why we don't have to suffer more than necessary to get things done that we want to accomplish. How you can shift away from worry and tension around money and recreate a new wonder, story, and belief about it. Her current favorite practices for physical intelligence and emotional intelligence. How creating characters for each of our emotions can help us have non-violent communication within ourselves. Power Quotes From The Show "Grief can show up in so many different ways; both small and big but it definitely marks a scar on our hearts. Particularly if we don't have the tools to understand it, process it, or sit with it and allow it to transform." - @heyamberrae on @WellnessForce http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Name It To Tame It helps you vividly name the thoughts in your head as well as the sensations in your body. Worry is either living in the past or living in the future and it forces you to lose sight of you in this moment right now. So, when you can name anxious thoughts or tension in the body, that practice allows you to respond to those thoughts or feelings, come back into the present moment, and become aware of them." - Amber Rae "Our feelings are our friends. I used to repress and push away my emotions; particularly the negative ones because I thought that in order to be worthy and loved, I needed to be a positive, happy person all the time. There's so much danger in replacing a negative thought with a positive one if we don't create the space to first listen and understand why that thought or feeling is visiting us." - Amber Rae "We're not listening to the wonder often enough because we don't know how or we've been so conditioned and trained to listen and trust in the worry. We're not pausing to question our own stories. How we can get back into the state of wonder is through the 3 C's - Curiosity, Courage, and Compassion." - Amber Rae Links From Today's Show Amber Rae Facebook Medium Twitter Instagram YouTube LinkedIn The World We Want Facebook Instagram Choose Wonder Over Worry Why We Self-Sabotage (And How to Work Through It) Concentrate! 220 Rose Cole: Powerful Rituals For Better Wellness
A ritual is anything that you do with awareness. When we are aware, we are breathing and cultivating consciousness. So, you can actually systematically increase your consciousness by taking your present awareness and the way that you think to another level and vantage point. Anything can be a ritual like your morning smoothie but it's the opposite of habitual behavior which you do unconsciously. - Rose Cole What can you do at this moment to shift out of shame, guilt, and regret in order to step into the person you're supposed to become? The trauma and neglect she experienced from a very young age in life and how she feels like that prepared her for her adulthood. How she reclaimed her voice and identity after being sexually molested as a child. Why it doesn't matter how much time has passed when it comes to being ready to tell our truth. Why we have essential events throughout our lifetimes that we play over and over again because we want to learn something from them. Akashic Records - how we can learn and embody lessons we have learned or will learn in our life's journey. How she came to realize she scripted her life experiences and lessons plus where she is now in her path. How she helps people recognize the thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that are sabotaging themselves and how they can stop them. What she's done to end her phobias of wilderness and the dark. How quantum theory and quantum entanglement play into her work when it comes to shamanism. Redefining what masculinity actually looks like. How sacred plants have been essential in her own quantum healing. Her advice on using plant medicine and who to go to for healing and ceremonies. How plant medicine can bring you back to yourself and the place that has never been hurt and never could be. Power Quotes From The Show "When we change something within ourselves, we are clearing karma forwards and backward. It changes our DNA but it also changes our relationships going backward with our parents or grandparents and forward with our children." - @rosecole on @wellnessforce http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Within the field of possibility is consciousness and shamans know how to work with it by focusing on their thoughts. Shamanism is basically quantum physics because you're using faith, belief, and your thoughts to refocus your attention and change your reality at a really, really fast pace." - Rose Cole "We need to redefine what masculinity looks like. It's not about being tough, putting up this armor, and being invincible. It's incredibly masculine when a man can cry and be vulnerable. It's harder for men to be vulnerable because they've been conditioned for decades to be a certain way compared to women. It's much easier for women to be vulnerable, cry, and be sensitive. This whole idea of being against the patriarchy is actually dividing us because it's making us two different teams when really each of us has a divine masculine and feminine within ourselves. Instead of looking at someone as being masculine or feminine, we're actually all on the spectrum. We just need to reach out to each other in unity." - Rose Cole "After I finally surrendered and allowed myself to be used as a vessel for my divine team and in communion with them, I will never go back to how I was before. I surrender to them every day and that's what I teach other people to do. When you surrender to your divine team's will and guidance, then you are used as a vessel and they show you how to come into further enlightenment with yourself. If you veer off, the repercussions of not being aligned are huge and so not worthy. My life has gotten so much easier since I no longer fight their will." - Rose Cole Links From Today's Show Rose Cole Facebook Twitter Pinterest YouTube Vimeo Truth-FULLY Walk In Beauty Sister Tribe High Priestess Training Optimal Energy Recipes Cookbook WYRHF Episode 028 - Self-Approval: How To Love Yourself When You Don't with Rose Cole Sacred Health Rituals Busting Through People Pleasing & Setting Healthy Boundaries I'm Finally Going To The Police: Breaking the Silence Harvey Weinstein Is My Monster Too by Salma Hayek Ram Dass, Going Home trailer Lewis Howes Paul Chek WFR 210 Brad Burge WFR 205 Wendy Myers About Rose Cole World-renowned speaker, author, and spiritual guide, Rose Cole, is a modern-day medicine woman. I realized that I can live this way all the time and it just takes discipline." - Kyle Kingsbury "Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have. Ultimately, that doesn't absolve people of their responsibility but there is forgiveness and compassion there. That's in every spiritual text - to live forgiveness and to truly embody that; to learn compassion and to feel what other people are going through and try to put yourself in their shoes. Try to see where others are coming from and not play the blame game." - Kyle Kingsbury "You don't always have to be right in an argument. If you no longer have to be right, the conversation changes and you can operate from a different place. You can really see eye to eye with the other person or at least attempt that. There's no attempting some level of understanding from the other person if you're dead-set on letting them know that you're right and then blame them. Power Quotes From The Show "If you're not willing to do the inner work, you're fighting yourself. You have to be willing to find that place inside of you that knows there's something more to life, relationships, and feeling whole." - Andrew DeGregorio on @wellnessforce http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "With EMDR Therapy, I began to realize that doing inner work was drastically changing my outer world including giving me things that I've always wanted. It helped me have deeper relationships with my mom, friends, and connect more and more with the people in my life but I wasn't doing anything else except for inner work. Before the inner work, I had been taught that I need to work hard, fight through fear, and get out there to just do what I can but none of that ever worked for me. Therapy really changed my life." - Andrew DeGregorio "As you do the inner work, you'll start to find that we all have these gifts that we didn't know were in there. We are superheroes; we have these powers and gifts that are absolutely amazing; they're just not in the mental field. You have to get out of the mind and into the body to be able to access the different levels and layers of this field of energy. We all have it; we're just not aware of it." - Andrew DeGregorio "You don't have to do this inner work alone. That's one of the biggest lessons I've learned while on this healing journey. You don't have to do this alone and it actually takes longer to create new pathways if you're by yourself. If you have multiple people and sources helping you, then you can create these pathways at a much faster rate." - Andrew DeGregorio Links From Today's Show Andrew DeGregorio Facebook LinkedIn Andrew's full story Heal with Andrew Contact Andrew How One Guy’s Journey To Find His Purpose Led To A Viral Video And The Career Of His Dreams What is EMDR? He was left unconscious in the ocean until a complete stranger pulled him out and saved his life. Andrew was never the same again. Andrew began to question his identity and purpose. He became incredibly present to the world in a way he never experienced before. Andrew took it upon himself to dive deep into a spiritual practice and that was where he discovered many of his gifts. He graduated from a 2-year program at the Luminous Awareness institute where he trained to become a guide in awakening and healing. Since then, he's worked with hundreds of clients (with 5-star ratings on Yelp) that have come for reasons that vary from physical pain, trauma, life struggles, business challenges, deepening their spiritual practice, developing their psychic gifts, relationship/family support and too many other topics to name. As a stand-up comedian, transformational speaker, intuitive counselor, and healer, Andrew brings together a unique blend of modalities that allows him to share his gifts with compassion and humor. In addition to offering healing and leading workshops, Andrew has trained with renowned teachers such as Lorraine DeLear, Dustin Diperna, Kyle Cease, Anna-Lisa Adelberg, John Churchill, Peter Cummings and many more. Strength has several facets; it can mean being quiet, surrendering, or letting go of things. Strength isn't always just this raw charge moving forward. "People feel like they need permission to rest when they do not have a sense of their inner power. Society sees this as a sign of weakness but I think it's a sign of strength to say, 'I need help. Can I do this?'" - @steph_gaudreau on @WellnessForce Ep 217 http://bit.ly/wfpodcast The Performance Paleo Cookbook DELICIOUS, NUTRIENT-PACKED MEALS TO FUEL A BETTER PERFORMANCE Get your copy of The Performance Paleo Cookbook by Stephanie Gaudreau here You train hard to perform well; your food should fuel the process and taste good, too. Listen To Episode 217 As Steph Gaudreau Uncovers: The struggles and pressures she faced in the first years of starting Stupid Easy Paleo. What "Paleo" means to her today and how her views have changed. How she has worked through her fears of money and not knowing how to handle her personal narrative of wealth. Whether or not our interest in the people we look up to and our heroes is beneficial for ourselves. What "hate following" is and how we can stop giving our energy to it. Why strength has so many different faces and meanings. What steps we can take to reframe how we see and think about our bodies. The biggest limiting belief about women and lifting weights. How to find a gym where you will feel comfortable at. Why the narrative that women can't be strong is completely false. How we can support women who want to work on improving their physical fitness. How she honors both her strong, confident self and highly sensitive personality. Why we feel like we need permission to take a break and just rest our mind and body. How she balances her life working from home and her advice to people struggling to take their mind off of work and pressure. What to eat after a workout; especially if you're insulin sensitive and looking for gluten-free options. The downfall of following a diet that bans certain foods compared to adding in better, healthier options as a swap. Steps we can take for social justice with #MeToo and #WeToo through face to face discussion. How we can improve communication with the people in our lives by setting boundaries around cellphone and technology use. How we can set boundaries when it comes to helping people and allowing them to work through their own process. About her upcoming book and the possible title of it, "The Harder to Kill Handbook." Power Quotes From The Show "Food labels help us navigate but they can also be constricting and then they don't even necessarily serve the greater purpose of eating healthy. It doesn't matter if something is Paleo or not; it's about whether or not it works for you." - @steph_gaudreau http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "What's the difference between a leader and an influencer? Are you following somebody because you feel that you can trust them as a leader or are they just influencing you to buy something? Are they forcing you to follow their exact both or are they challenging you to follow your best path? Ultimately, it comes down to you asking yourself, 'Am I following this person because they've inspired me to follow my best self or because I feel like I'm lacking something and I just want to get to where they are and be like them?' " - Steph Gaudreau "Too much inward focus can be really stifling for people and serve to force where we are not at. This is one of the reasons why positive affirmations don't work for a lot of people because our subconscious brain knows we're not there yet in our journey. Positive affirmations work for some people and not others but I think the point is that if we're too focused on 'we' but we don't ever consider ourselves, then we start to lose ourselves. Perhaps we start to not take care of ourselves because we're only caring for others before we put energy back into our own system. I don't know the right answer but I think we need to be fluid, flexible, and surrender or take a stand when necessary. - Steph Gaudreau "The biggest limiting belief that I run across with my female athletes is that 'I will get hurt.' It's crazy to me because I never ever hear this when I hear people talking to men. No one ever says to men, 'Be careful because you might get hurt,' yet the number of times I've seen someone say this to a woman is countless. Being physically active does not automatically cause injury. We need to take the ego of that idea; the ego is the most dangerous thing in the gym. Working outside of your limits, knowing you're outside of your limits, and continuing to push yourself because you want to keep up with everyone else is dangerous." - Steph Gaudreau Links From Today's Show Steph Gaudreau Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube WFR 016 Steph Gaudreau The Paleo Athlete by Steph Gaudreau The Performance Paleo Cookbook by Steph Gaudreau Harder to Kill Radio Podcast Harder To Kill Radio Episode 108 | Cellulite + Confidence: Fierce Love Friday Harder to Kill Club on Facebook Steph's post about cellulite on Instagram Angie Alt and Mickey Trescott of Autoimmune Wellness Stefi Cohen Gary Vaynerchuck Brené Brown Tim Ferriss Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek WFR 070 Tony Federico WFR 132 Christine Hassler About Steph Gaudreau Steph Gaudreau combines a formal education in biology / human physiology (BS Biology – Human Physiology), 12 years of science teaching experience (MA –Education and National Board Certification), holistic nutrition training (Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner), and an unabashed love of tasty Paleo food (human with taste buds). There are 4 rules that I live by: no fault, no guilt, no blame, and no shame. The fact that more people aren't dealing with their inner traumas and depression when they should be. Different experiences people can have while undergoing MDMA therapy including his own. Why he actually doesn't like cooking and how he used it as accountability to help him grow. What's wrong with the Marine culture as far as pain, winning, and leadership. The biggest breakthrough he made this year - accepting that he can't do it all alone. Power Quotes From The Show "Human connection is the remedy but the first step is to discover an authentic connection to yourself. It's about who you are at the core; not who you think you are or pretend to be but unapologetically who you are at the core." - @CookingCaveman http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "Talking, in general, is the most underutilized and important facet of any healing. I don't care if it's with a therapist, a mirror, or your dog. How do you neutralize fault, shame, blame, and guilt? It's really, really simple. Those emotions only have power over you as long as you allow them to stay your head." - George Bryant "There's this illusion that once you've done the work, you can let go of everything but that's not true at all. You learn how to coexist with the feeling to the point of where it's no longer toxic but neutral. As I go through my life and have all of these experiences, every one of these experiences is like a new neighbor moving into my neighborhood. The truth is that I really hate some of those neighbors and when I resist them, they resist back stronger. When I can love my neighbors by simply acknowledging their existence, they become neutral and I can choose not to listen to them or give them power for just 30 seconds before I take it back. It's a daily practice." - George Bryant "If there are any thoughts that we have in our brain, mind, or being that are taking up real estate or affecting an emotion that's anything but neutral, that only reason that it's capable of doing that is because there's only one person that knows that it's even happening and that's us. These thoughts keep us disconnected, in self-sabotage mode, and we stop ourselves from telling anybody because we want to be right about our stories and it's uncomfortable to go to the other side. However, the moment you can take a thought and speak it into the universe, it neutralizes the charge because it's no longer just yours; now it's everybody's." - George Bryant Links From Today's Show George Bryant LinkedIn Facebook Twitter Civilized Caveman Facebook Instagram YouTube The Paleo Kitchen by George Bryant and Juli Bauer Civilized Caveman Lifestyle Facebook Group George Bryant aka Civilized Caveman on Bacon and Have We Gone Too Far? When you're inflamed, your hormones can't help you be healthy. If you're trying to fix it by taking supplements while still eating inflammatory foods, then you're just adding fuel to the fire."- @HormonesBalance http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "All the major, mainstream brands for skincare or cleaning products are what you want to avoid. You don't want to touch any of that because they're just loaded with chemicals that can contribute to the increase of estrogen. What we eat is equally as important and all of the pesticides and fertilizers that we are eating in non-organic food can also cause a hormone imbalance. Not only that but birth control pills and stress can also affect our hormone levels. When we are stressed, we produce cortisol which steals progesterone in women. Progesterone is so necessary because it's there to offset estrogen's work." - Magdalena Wszelaki "Surround yourself with simple, yummy recipes that you can pull off in 20 minutes. Batch cooking is another great idea; just go spend a couple of hours on a Sunday cooking up a storm and then you'll be set until Wednesday or Thursday." - Magdalena Wszelaki "So many women focus on being grounded and want to avoid change. One of my clients was really having a hard time of letting go of her fruit and oatmeal but I asked her to just try it for three days. After that experience, she became the biggest advocate of healthy eating. She realized that in order to change her nights, she had to simply change her breakfast. Power Quotes From The Show "Some of these nootropics can be addictive but just like any tool, they can be abused. You start to realize that anything - it doesn't matter how healthy it is, anything on a physical level can be abused." - @TheHackedMind http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "I've discovered that, just like anything else, nootropics could be used as a tool that's motived by a shadow-based behavior. For example, we have these dark thoughts such as, 'I'm not good enough to do this work that I want to do so I need some sort of stimulant,' or people come to me looking for a magic pill that will help them make more money. I'm not immune to it; I notice that in others and even myself. So, that just really moved me and Nootropedia more in the direction of getting to the root of people's motivations and by shining a spotlight on them to help others determine whether nootropics could be helpful within their lifestyle for achieving whatever goals they have but then what else is useful as well." - Mansal Denton "Most people want stimulants and if you zoom out on our culture as a whole, that makes sense. Adderal and some of these high stimulatory drugs are drugs that improve productivity and proficiency and these are things that we value as a society; especially western and American society which is built very much so on capitalism. So, I think it's a cultural theme and stimulation is a huge factor that people are looking for. Not only that but so many people are doing work that they don't want to do and stimulants come through when people with office jobs just need something to get them through the day." - Mansal Denton "Every man-made problem in our world - ecological disasters, pollution, or poverty-those are all manifestations of what's collectively going on within our minds. If we can fix the traumas or addictive behaviors, and really come to a place where we love and accept ourselves, we can fix the external problems in this world. I personally believe that psychedelics are one of the most transformative ways to heal ourselves and thereby create change in this world." - Mansal Denton Links From Today's Show Mansal Denton Twitter Facebook Instagram LinkedIn Nootropedia Facebook Instagram YouTube A Head Above Documentary A Head Above by Mansal Denton Below The Drop Neurohacker Co-founder Interviewed in New Nootropics Documentary, A Head Above Manna From Heaven by Steve Kubby Qualia from Neurohacker Alpha BRAIN from Onnit The Reality of Truth How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan Stanislav Grof Get Peak Brain Performance with Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Hill WFR 197 Dr. Daniel Stickler WFR 103 Robb Wolf WFR 096 Daniel Schmachtenberger About Mansal Denton Mansal Denton is a doer and thinker. This manifests in entrepreneurial ventures, organizing a festival, publishing a book (not self-published), and a myriad of other projects like donating books to prisoners. At age 20 he was arrested and at 23 sentenced to 8 years in the Texas State Penitentiary. While in prison he still operated two businesses but primarily spent his time reading, learning, and thinking about a life well-lived. This prison sentence has influenced Mansal’s life tremendously. To grapple with the fallout and identify personal character flaws, he went on a journey that included Vipassana meditation, Mankind Project, Authentic Relating / Circling, and ayahuasca ceremonies. No, he’s not enlightened. With these unique life experiences, quirky behavior, and a somewhat arrogant nature, he has been featured on media outlets such as Entrepreneur, Huffington Post, Fox News, and Elite Daily. He’s lived in Switzerland, Poland, but currently resides in Austin, Texas in a 230 square foot mansion. He is obsessed with foxes, occasionally partakes in jiu-jitsu and practices archery daily.
