49: Creating Products With Meaning And Building A Movement with Roseanna Croft - Success Stories
If you’re building a product-based business and want to create more meaningful products that reflect your personality and encourage a movement around shared values, then this episode is for you! In this episode I’m joined by one of our amazing members from the Members’ Club, Roseanna Croft, who is the founder of Roseanna Croft Jewellery, a fine jewellery brand that designs bespoke and one of a kind pieces, to tell your story and capture memories. After blagging her way into her first job as a goldsmith and working in the jewellery industry in Australia, Roseanna decided to boldly move back to the UK to start her own business. She declined a number of job opportunities and, with some help from her uncle, an established jewellery designer, she set up her own shop, up levelled her skills and slowly grew an amazing customer base. Roseanna realised that building a business was a lonely journey, so she decided to join the Members’ Club. She says it has not only helped her learn all about social media and building websites, but also gave her access to an incredible community and the opportunity to find answers, inspiration, support and even friends! Roseanna shared how, after following an Annual Goal Setting And Planning Workshop, she went on to surpass the revenue goal she set for herself, doubling her turnover within a couple of years. In this podcast, Roseanna and I discuss: How she not only moved countries, but also decided to take the plunge and open her own shop, even without any business experience. The fear she had to overcome when approaching banks for a business loan and the organisations she joined to learn all about business and being an entrepreneur. The early phases of her business and how she worked with her experienced uncle to learn for him, up level her skills and slowly build her own client base. The product-creation process, from idea stage to building entire product lines that get people talking. How she overcame her tendency to constantly question whether she’s doing the right thing and found the courage to put herself, her products and her business out there. Her biggest wins and how she has managed to get industry and regional press coverage as well as being recognized as a “Rising Star” by an industry magazine. How she went from a low point in her life to embarking on a personal development journey and making self-care, her mind and her values a priority. The process behind her new product (which has been 4 years in the making) and how she injected storytelling and meaning into it, that has now grown into a movement and attracted significant press attention. The importance of having the end destination in mind and accepting that the path might change, but if you keep working and moving forward, you’ll get to where you want to go. Roseanna’s top tips for success are: Make self-care and living by your values a priority. Always make time to take care of your mind and body. Learn how your mind works and develop self-awareness - Recognize when you’re falling into a negative mindset and try to get yourself back on track, because there’s nothing like the power of positivity. Believe in yourself and when you see other people’s success, remember that you can do it too and that anything is possible! If change has been happening all around you and you’ve been struggling or scared to pivot your business to keep up and grow, then you’re absolutely going to love this episode! In it I chat with one of our amazing members from the Members’ Club, Jane Middlehurst! Jane is the co-founder of HomeNotes, an online community that helps and supports people through their home renovation process. Along with her business partner Amy, Jane has been running her own architectural practice for over seven years. But after both founders having children and with Amy deciding to relocate to another country, they realised they needed to shake up the business model to fit their family lives and the fact that they were now going to run the business from different countries. That’s when Jane joined the Members’ Club, which she says opened her eyes to all sorts of learning and business strategies she never thought of before. Jane wanted to build a business that would make an impact, allow them to scale and share their message and services on a bigger scale, and that’s exactly what they are achieving with HomeNotes. In this podcast, Jane and I chat all about: How Jane and Amy took the leap and started an architectural practice together seven years ago. How they have both juggled a thriving business, a growing family and unexpected changes. How the idea for HomeNotes came about and how they transitioned from having a traditional architectural practice to building an online business, a social media following and a membership site. The key social media platforms they have been focusing on to grow their audience and the way they’re using social media to develop their message and their strategy. How partnerships and collaborations have been playing a key part. Jane’s top tip for success is: The importance of self-belief, which she says is what will get you through all the hurdles, the ups and downs, and those times when you feel totally stuck. Having the belief that it’s possible for you is what keeps you going! Find out more or connect with Jane Website: www.homenotes.co Instagram: @wearehomenotes

46: 5 Habits of Successful People
Back in 2011, I became really obsessed with trying to figure out how I could create more success in my life, so I started digging into what super successful people did that I wasn’t doing, so that I could mimic them. I started to realise that there’s a few simple but incredibly profound habits that all successful people seem to share. I got really focused, intentional and determined, and started doing the same. It blows my mind how radically different and successful my life has been since then, and integrating these easy habits into my life played a massive part in this. So here they are, these 5 habits could help you create so much incredible success in your life: 1. Focus on the major things not the minor things. 2. Manage your self-discipline. 3. Go all in, every day. 4. Be really alert to things that are stealing your time. 5. Get your ideas, goals, dreams and plans down on paper. I hope you find these simple, but incredibly powerful habits useful and that they’ll help you create incredible success. 45: Turning a Lifelong Passion Into A Business With Abbi Burns - Success Stories
I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode of the She Means Business podcast because it’s as fun as it is inspiring! I caught up with Abbi Burns, founder of entertainment company, Darley Dance Productions, as she walked me through her journey of transforming from a dancer into a business owner and building a successful business. Abbi has been a dancer since the age of three, but after she rebelled and quit professional dance at 18 years old, she soon realised that it was in fact her lifelong passion. She decided to start her own dance company, despite the fact that she had no clue about running a business. She says business, to her, was all about “men in grey suits with briefcases”, and it took her years to acknowledge that she was in fact a business owner running a “proper” business. Abbi discovered FEA and joined the Members’ Club a few years ago, when she felt like she had nowhere to turn to for answers to her business questions as the years went on, guidance on becoming a better business owner and inspiration to help her get over her fears. Since joining, her business has gone from strength to strength, and she’s become an entrepreneur that regularly “follows the fear” and pushes herself out of her comfort zone. In this podcast, Abbi and I talk about: Her first years as a dancer, why she decided to quit and why starting a dance company was her way of staying true to her lifelong passion, in a completely different way. How she learned the ropes in her business and the challenges she faced throughout the first years, including her struggle to identify herself as a business owner. The first things she worked on as soon as she joined the Members’ Club, including setting serious goals for her business and focusing on improving her mindset so that she could scale and grow. How she went from being a pessimist that stopped in her tracks when she felt challenged, scared and uncomfortable, to an entrepreneur with a positive mindset that regularly follows her fears and pushes herself out of her comfort zone. Abbi’s top tips for success are: To recognise that fear is simply your own perception of a situation, and that what you’re scared of isn’t in fact real! Abbi says that she always asks herself, “What’s the worst that could happen!” and that she now follows her fear because that’s where success is waiting for us. Abbi says that through her experiences she’s realised that as you overcome more and more scary challenges, you’ll start to realise how amazing and capable you actually are! There’s value in making mistakes and you just need to be who you are, even if you’re scared that you might look like a fool or embarrass yourself! Even if you do make mistakes, it makes you more relatable to your audience and your clients. The most important thing you can do for yourself and your business is to work on your mindset and the biggest thing you need to overcome is your own fear! 44: Overcoming Self-Doubt And Starting A Business You Love with Katie Tovey-Grindlay - Success Stories
The She Means Business Podcast is back! I’m so excited for today’s episode because I’m chatting to one of our amazing Members’ Club members, Katie Tovey-Grindlay! Katie has been an entrepreneur since 2011, when she left the Royal Navy and started a dog walking business. From there, she went on to set up her own social media agency, Business Wonderland, and she has recently set up her third business, Petfluencer Agency! Katie joined the Members’ Club in 2015 when one of her biggest struggles was getting into the right mindset for success and overcoming the fear that was holding her back. Katie says she not only learned how to beat her mindset struggles through the Members’ Club, she also formed amazing friendships and found incredible support from the other members. She also loves learning new strategies she wouldn’t have previously thought of, like recording videos or copywriting. One of her highlights since becoming a member has been attending our members-only Inspired Vacay, which she says helped her come away from that event with a solid plan of action. In this podcast, Katie and I discuss: The truth about being an entrepreneur, how Katie got started and how she went from the Royal Navy to having Sir Paul McCartney tweet about her own business within a few years! Her journey from starting a dog walking business, progressing to a social media agency and now setting up a third business. The biggest struggle she had to overcome and why becoming more self-aware and working on her mindset has helped her achieve success. The highlights she has had since becoming an entrepreneur and how celebrities and brands have been tweeting about her business. Katie’s top tips for success are: Not to let the fear cripple you and stop you from doing what you want to do. Just go for it because, what’s the worst that could happen? Nothing has to be perfect, so give yourself permission to start out wherever you are, even if your videos (or whatever you are creating) are not too great. Learn and improve as you go along, but don’t waste time holding yourself back. 42: Creating Apps Without Code (With Tara Reed)
On the show today, I have the lovely Tara Reed. She’s the founder of Apps Without Code and she basically teaches people how to build apps even if they have no clue when it comes to technology (that’s me!). So, if you are interested in doing that, then you’re going to love the beginning of this session because she basically gives us a lesson in creating apps, which was amazing. Then, we get into the nitty-gritty of being an entrepreneur. This part of the interview inspired me so much. I love having just honest, real conversations with entrepreneurs who open up about the truth of building a business. Hello and welcome back to another episode of She Means Business! In this episode, I was joined by the lovely Megan Auman. She creates absolutely beautiful jewellery. I love hearing behind the scenes of how she’s turned into a big success. One of the biggest takeaways is the fact that as entrepreneurs we need to show up and take action. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode and love it as much as I did. It is honestly so inspiring.
