Ep. 1855 Small is beautiful How to establish and grow a successful partnership with boutique US importers | wine2wine Business Forum 2023

Welcome to Episode 1855, where we present the session recordings from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. In today's episode, we delve into - Small is beautiful. How to establish and grow a successful partnership with boutique US importers with Giuseppe Leonard LoCascio & Nunzio CastaldoItalian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and we are pleased to present this series of market focus sessions, recorded during the Forum held in Verona in November 2023.wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event, held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key annual  reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide.Abstract: The US is the most difficult wine market in the world: it is a heavily regulated, highly competitive, mature market where wine consumption is slowing and consumer habits are quickly changing. However, it still is an attractive market for Italian wineries, offering high visibility and access to affluent consumers, but these benefits will increasingly come at a cost. The US will remain a very expensive market to open, manage, and work with. In these challenging conditions, small Italian artisanal wineries with limited budgets should calibrate their expectations accordingly and understand what kind of import/distribution model is likely to be the best fit for their needs and resources. This session will show how boutique regional importers/distributors combining a focused selection, market expertise, and product knowledge might be the best solution for artisanal Italian wineries, and we will discuss how to successfully create stable, profitable relationships with them.Find more about wine2wine Business Forum: https://wine2wine.net/ _______________________________Let's keep in touch! In 1963, his grandfather Leonardo Specogna, who had spent some years as an emigrant in Switzerland, returned to Friuli. It was during this time that, fascinated by the beauty of the hills of Rocca Bernarda, in Corno di Rosazzo, he decided to purchase a small plot of land in the area.Initially, the family's focus was on dairy, cereal, and self-consumption wine production. However, thanks to the dedication of Cristian's father, Graziano, the estate gradually shifted its primary focus towards wine production.Cristian's interest in viticulture and winemaking naturally evolved as he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. After completing studies in Viticulture and Oenology, he embarked on a series of experiences and study trips to prominent Italian and French wine-growing regions, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the potential of their own territory. The winery now stands on the hills of Rocca Bernarda in Corno di Rosazzo, at the heart of the Friulian wine land. Today, the family's winemaking tradition is upheld by the third generation, Cristian and Michele. They have 25 hectares of vineyards, farmed organically situated on the hills between 100 and 300 metres above sea level. Connect:Instagram : Cristian Specogna (@cristian_specogna)  / Specogna (@specognavini) LinkedIn : Cristian Specogna - Az.
