Movie "Mary Magdalene" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie WorkshopWe have an opportunity today with this movie because it cuts through all the ego's objections. It gives us a glimpse into all the aspects of resistance that we've had towards surrendering our will to God and God's will for perfect happiness. It shows us parts of the ego that we've guarded and protected and tried to keep, even though it brought us misery and suffering and sadness and hurt. It sounds ridiculous, but you know, Jesus tells us that the secret of salvation is that you are doing this to yourself. So, on the one hand, we don't have anyone to blame, and on the other hand, we can accept the correction, release the ego, and be happy. It's that simple. Now, it may seem difficult in practice, but I assure you that it's much more challenging to maintain the ego and try to live according to the ego's belief system than to let it go. A Course of Miracles teaches us how to trust in God and follow the guidance practically. It's teaching us how to let go of the ego, let go of attachments, let go of judgments, not because we're trying to be special, good, or right, but just because judgment is something God did not create. So we're giving ourselves a whammy. An opinion and judgment whammy, because when we try to judge, when we have opinions, we're trying to hold on to something that God didn't create and doesn't even know about. And that's not going to work if you want to be happy. Movie "The Speed of Thought" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie WorkshopMost human beings experience having a train of thought that they call their own. Occasionally, they feel like there are a lot of judgments and opinions that some call the committee. It's when you feel very confused, and you have a lot of different conflicting thoughts in your mind.Today, the movie gives us a pretty good glimpse at the multiple voices in the mind, but it will take us into a much deeper experience of what Jesus is speaking about in A Course in Miracles. Most of the Course is directed towards forgiveness as Jesus taught it 2000 years ago. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. Knock, and the door shall be opened. Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all else will be added unto you. But in the movie today, Jesus is taking us further into that pristine state of the 'I Am Presence' that is prior to time. Jesus taught in the Bible, 'Before Abraham was I AM,' after he had reached a Christ state of mind, which is our true identity. God created us as the Christ in spirit, but this 'I Am Presence' is entirely covered by the veil of linear time and space. So, wow, we're on a deep ride together. The reason it's so important is that you can't really keep the Holy Instant in your awareness unless you give it away. You have to be the giver of the Holy Instant in order to be aware of it, otherwise, it won't stay in awareness. Because by giving it away you keep it. Movie "The Giver" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Movie Workshop from the "Holy Relationship" online retreatProjection is the attempt to get rid of something you don't want by seeing it somewhere else. So it's seeing the anger, envy, and jealousy in the world of form as if people are angry and envious and jealous. BUT, it's a big trick to see in the world what you don't want to face in your mind. It's quite an ingenious trick. And yet this world is the result of projection. Projection doesn't work. When you try to see something that you don't want in your mind as if it's in the world, you're keeping it in your mind. You're not forgiving it and releasing it. You're seeing it as if it's outside of you. But there is nothing outside. I can tell you right now that's the ultimate realization of spiritual awakenings. There's nothing outside of you. You're it. You're the whole. And there's nothing outside of the whole. Movie "Violet" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop.Many have very dark experiences in childhood and during their teen years and early adulthood, where they have a lot of reflections and witnesses of guilt and shame, of blame, of criticism, and of all kinds of judgments. And for those of us who have come through that route, we know how stressful, fear, and guilt-ridden it can seem when that self-critical voice, that's just doubting you all the time, speaks to you. For those of us on the spiritual journey, we know that our whole purpose is to transcend that voice of the ego and learn to tune in to the voice of the Spirit, the voice of intuition. As Course in Miracles students, we could say it's Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Jesus is an example for us of one who heard only one voice. So he told us in the bible, Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world. Meaning I have overcome the voice that made the world. I have overcome the ego. And I now know that light is all that there is and that our nature is love. The Kingdom of Heaven is real. It's so real that nothing real can be threatened, and nothing unreal exists. So this beautiful, intuitive voice teaches us and reminds us all the time that who we are is his light, his pure Spirit. Movie "Bruce Almighty"- Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie WorkshopI was thinking back through my 35 years of working with the course identifying which prayers have I prayed in my heart the most? And the first one, I think, is one you might relate to. It's called "Help." The simpler, the better, and the Holy Spirit is aware of that prayer for help. I think the second one, right behind "Help," is "make it obvious." That's my second favorite. Considering we're in this fog of forgetfulness which is a kind of sleep, I can't think of anything more helpful than just crying out for help when you need it or saying "make it obvious" because "make it obvious" is a prayer for guidance. Even if I can't hear your voice, you can still "make it obvious" to me in my nighttime dreams, "make it obvious" with signs and symbols, "make it obvious" with music on the radio, "make it obvious" with the birds and with people. The movie "Chances Are" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie WorkshopJesus knows that the mind that believes in separation is freakin scared of light. So scared of God that there had to be a plan that would be a more gentle awakening. He's not going to hurl anyone into the light. Instead, we gradually embrace the light. We gradually open to the light as the darkness fades, and we sort of fade back into heaven. Isn't that nice? Don't you like that the Holy Spirit is gentle? Everyone's asking how the world will end? The world will end in laughter, re-translated.
