KNP132 - Hormones, Nutrition and Covid-19 With Dr. Vaughn

On today's episode we had none other than my very own doctor and good friend, Vaughn Johnson on the podcast. There is nothing like a very well qualified doctors input on the Coronavirus, hormones and nutrition. The first third of the episode was spent on his thoughts on Covid-19. Ways to keep safe and supplementation that could help boost your immune system during such a vulnerable time. The next third was spent on hormones. Why we are seeing drops in levels at a younger age compared to 50 years ago. Different warning signs of hormone deficiency as well what to ask your doctor to test for when you get a hormone panel check. His message of treating people and not labs was something that was really profound. The last part of this amazing episode was spend on how nutrition ties into hormones. How important it is to eat real food and the direct correlation it has to hormones. Enjoy this episode! KNP128 - Fitness Trends & Diet Fads - Funniest Of All Time

On today's episode, Michelle and I aimed to shed a little humor on your life! We talked about the craziest home workout videos that we have seen circulating the internet! That led into us talking about the craziest fitness/diet trends of all time! Some of that list included the following: Shake weight - In 2009 a 2.5 lb piece of plastic shit made it's way to the market. The infomercial went viral and cashed in OVER 40 MILLION bucks in sales. As I typed that I dry heaved in my mouth a little. Shape ups - Apparently sketchers was lying when they made claims that their shoes would help people lose weight, and strengthen and tone their glutes, legs and ab's. 40 million dollar lawsuit settlement later we found out that is not after all how Kim K got her booty. Lies, it was all lies. HCG diet - Remember when there was a clinic on every block a decade ago? 500 calories sounds like a snack to me, but was unfortunately the whole days worth of eating. The amount of metabolism that were put to rest during this phase is actually something that upsets me more than anything else on this list. So glad this shit is a thing of the past. Gazelle Glider - This thing literally had almost zero resistance. You just swing around like an idiot for 2 easy payments of 149.99. The only thing that I do miss about seeing this ad was Tony Little's hair. That shit was sick. Get a tramp or a swing set instead. At least your kids can enjoy it too. Slim Fast - The biggest gangster of them all. Essentially was just flavored milk. Replace a meal with one of those and of course you might lost weight. LOL the fact these still sell a lot is the greatest arbitrage of all time. The Neck Slimmer - If you don't know what this is, stop reading, and google it. And the videos associated with it. I cant stop laughing that this was a thing. Looks the blowjob Olympics to me. Sorry, there is just no other way to put that. Total Gym - This is the most functional out of all this BS, but still non the less, BS. Him and Suzanne summers made a KILLING off a bunch of people getting tricked into doing palates. Mad respect for Chuck Norris though, mostly because of the old "Chuck Norris" jokes. The Cabbage Soup Diet - The cabbage soup diet is the original gangster of fad diet. For 7 days you eat nothing but homemade cabbage soup for every meal. You you get one piece of fruit a day. On day 5 u get a "small" serving of beef. Hope you all enjoy the episode and remember to still laugh during these crazy times! Love you all! KNP127 - Coach Spotlight - Brad Jensen

On this week's episode of The Coaches Spotlight, we spotlighted The Key Nutrition Podcast's Host Brad Jensen. Brad's Bio My passion for the fitness industry has been engrained into my life since I was 14 years old. The minute I picked up my first fitness and nutrition magazine I knew that it was what I was born to do. I became NASM and ACE certified so I could understand all parts of fitness and nutrition. I wanted to absorb as much as I could to feel my best and also share my passion with others. This passion lifted me from my darkest times and helped me overcome years of addiction, which resulted in my sobriety. Fitness to me isn't just about physical appearance. Fitness is a lifestyle that is constantly evolving. I knew that I needed to build a place where I could educate others on how to live healthy lives. No quick fixes, no fad diets…. just honest accountability, hard work, and real results that last. I opened the doors to Key Nutrition in March 2017 and have never looked back. I truly want my clients and my team to live healthy lives and understand how food and fitness can change your life for the better. We get one life and I want everyone to live their best. I am not only a fitness addict, I am also a husband to my beautiful and loving wife Kelly and together we have two fur babies (champ and chief) who we love to spend time outdoors with as well. KNP126 - Tackling Body Image Issues With CrossFit Games Athlete Cassidy Dickson

She is a former CrossFit games athlete and owns SLC CrossFit here in Utah. Cassidy told us about her journey to becoming a world record holder in powerlifting and to make it to the CrossFit games, which is the pinnacle of cross fit. We explored her body image disorder and her vulnerability and honesty is something you will very much appreciate. If you have ever not felt good enough, not skinny enough, not pretty enough, she has been right there with you. Cassidy gives solutions on how to overcome such thoughts, what she currently does today and advise to all the women out there to be the best you! Give Cassidy a follow and let her know you enjoyed the show! About Cassidy My journey with health and fitness started at the young age of 5 when my mom enrolled me in gymnastics to get rid of some of my energy. I excelled in the sport and competed until I was 16 before I transitioned into more of a globo gym rat. I worked with personal trainers and participated in all sorts of group classes but didn't find something I really loved until I stumbled upon CrossFit in 2012. From there, my gymnastics roots and competitive side found a whole new world and I fell in love! I worked my butt off and was able to qualify and compete at 6 CrossFit South Regionals as an individual and with a team and 2 years at the CrossFit Games with my team SLC Gold. During that time, I also dabbled in Olympic Weightlifting and became a National Champion in the 69kg weight class in 2014. My fitness and health journey left me with a unique outlook on self image and I love helping women become empowered through their strength and strong bodies through my experience and story. I became a nutrition coach in 2016 after my coach at the time (Jason Phillips) changed my life and helped me recover from some under eating and overtraining as an athlete. I've since then transitioned into the Director of Mentorship for Nutritional Coaching Institute and have the amazing opportunity to coach coaches in the nutrition space! My husband and I own one of the first CrossFit gyms in Utah, Salt Lake City CrossFit, and we are passionate about helping others make health and fitness a priority in their lives at whatever level is possible. I'm obsessed with my dogs, coffee, and love camping and being outside in the beautiful mountains! KNP124 - Coach Spotlight - Jordan Snow

On this week's episode of The Coaches Spotlight, we had our amazing coach Jordan Snow join us. Jordan's Bio I was first introduced to fitness when I was 15 years old, and quickly fell in love with it. I loved being able to change my body and the way I felt simply by eating and exercising. My passion for fitness continued through my early 20's. Unfortunately, at that time I had begun a battle with addiction and it was my first passion to be thrown to the wayside. After getting sober in 2016, I was very unhappy with how I felt and was in the worst shape of my life. I remember feeling hopeless. Luckily, I was able to get over feeling that way and I hit the ground running. With a basic understanding of nutrition and exercise I was able to make some good changes. But once I sought professional help, the results I was hoping for really started to show. Ever since, fitness has been a huge part of my life. It has helped my sobriety, and every other aspect of my life immeasurably and now I want to be there for people looking to change their lives. I believe that my past struggles and experience will allow me to connect with my clients as I can relate to the feeling of being stuck and not knowing where to begin. I'm so excited to be a part of Key Nutrition and share all of my knowledge and experience with you, as we work together to accomplish your fitness goals. One of the biggest perks of getting sober and choosing a healthy lifestyle, I was able to reconnect with my now wife Olivia. We have been happily married since June 2017. We are the proudest parents of our son, Jude the Akita, adopted Thanksgiving 2016. You can find us playing tug, going for long walks, and occasionally eating way too much sushi. KNP123 - From Drug Addict to IFBB Pro With Antoine Vaillant

On today's podcast, we had IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Antoine Vaillant. We share a connection in the recovery/sobriety community and are extremely grateful for his time. As a kid, he had this feeling inside himself that he was not good enough. Fear. Fear of not being good enough. He wanted to be better, to be stronger. The only thing he could control was that. To get bigger and stronger. He started doing push ups and sit ups at a young age, and felt like he could control those results by putting the effort in. He kept doing it, and doing it... Then he saw the bodybuilding magazines. 2003 Mr. Olympia reviews - he was amazed by the physiques of these Olympians. He researched on the internet using an old PC with a dial up connection. He found the bodybuilding message boards, and learned and learned. He decided to compete in bodybuilding. It was 2004 and he did not even train in a gym before. Just one dumbbell in his bedroom. He joined the gym and told the owner he wanted to compete. A year later, he competed at 16 and won his class. He kept going. Fast track to 2012, He won my IFBB pro card at the Canadian Nationals. Coming out of a bad relationship, and victorious, he decided it was time to party and celebrate. He chose the wrong people and the wrong things to celebrate with. Drugs, alcohol and bad influences. This is when his drug addiction began. Needless to say, he hit many rock bottoms and lost everything more than once. He ended up homeless, in the streets and on welfare. It took him near death experiences and many rehabs to get out of it. He came out of my last rehab in 2017. He was driven with nothing but hope, he started training for his come back. He wanted to come back on stage and prove to myself and the world that it wasn't over for him. He teamed up with Dorian Hamilton and Team HD, moved to Burlington Ontario and put in the work. He learned to live like a champion again, but this time around, to the MAX. His comeback show was the 2018 Toronto pro show and he ended up placing 4th. The comeback was real. He was proud of myself... Then he got back to work! The goal is now the Olympia stage for Antoine. His story will not only inspire you, but show you we all struggle with demons and overcoming those is a very real thing. *As a disclaimer, this episode discuses Anabolic Steroid use and details of drug use.
