“Arete Coach Podcast" Explores the "Art and Science" of Executive Coaching hosted by Severin Sorensen. The “Arete Coach Podcast" is for executive coaches and anyone considering becoming an executive coach. The podcast is especially valuable to executive coaches who are lifetime learners with deep curiosity about the "art and science" of coaching. In this podcast, the ‘art of coaching’ is explored through engaging interviews with leading executive coaches from diverse backgrounds sharing their individual coaching journeys, learnings, methods, best questions, and situational approaches to executive coaching. Beyond best practices, the podcast will regularly mine research on the ‘science of coaching’ and explores ongoing scientific discoveries and studies looking for what works and why, with an aim to improve the core body of knowledge for executive coaches and the industry.

Terrie Lupberger is an MCC out of Boulder, Colorado. She combines her 20+ years of global leadership and management experience with her executive coaching and change-management expertise to bring forth the very best out of her coaching clients. She coaches her clients with an expansive body of knowledge, tools, and unique processes to better support them in navigating their challenges and generating greater impact. In her coaching, she utilizes her research into what makes change really stick, teams, emotional intelligence, conscious leadership principles, and quantum theory. Today she is the Program Director and Co-Facilitator of The Coach Partnership’s Team Coaching Certification Program. She is also the Co-Facilitator of The Disruptive ChangeMaker, a virtual 3-month, online program for coaches, leaders, and other changemakers that brings quantum-based theory into business practice. Terrie also co-facilitates The Executive Sanctuary, a development program for nonprofit CEOs. Since 2013, Terrie has been a Senior Instructor at the University of Miami’s certified Professional Coaching Program. Since 2010, Terrie has been the Director of Training with The Coach Partnership which offers the Newfield Coaching Program in Asia. Terry is the former CEO of Newfield Network USA.
In the podcast, we explore Terrie's journey into executive coaching, lessons in life and some lessons learned in her coaching journey. From the safety of her first positon at the US Department of Treasury, to her transition into the helping and serving professions of coaching. She obtained her Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Regis University and was awarded the “Women of Distinction Award- Glass Ceiling” by the National Association of Women Business Owners in 2009. She also conducts leadership development workshops to create workplace well-being and teaches managers to embrace a coaching mindset. Prior to starting her company, she was a recruitment director for a local Hong Kong boutique financial services firm.

Michele is a former college athlete and teacher, and a current executive coach, and lifetime learner.
Michele is CEO of M Barry Consulting operating from Arlington, Massachusetts. She is also a Vistage Chair with multiple peer groups since 2005. In 2007 she became a Vistage Mentor where she helps develop new Vistage Chairs to start their groups and become effective leaders. In 2012, Michele became a faculty member of Vistage and started teaching new hire training courses and advanced training courses for experienced chairs.
Michele was a Lead Change Management Consultant and Director with Fidelity Investments. Michele has also worked in the education, training, and learning fields. With Politzer & Haney she served as a Learning and Development Manager and she also worked in other organizations as an Instructional Designer for training, a Developmental Editor for school curriculum, and an English Teacher and Mathematics Teacher. Michele is a certified Predictive Index Certified Partner and Practitioner, a certified EQi 2.0 and EQ-1 360 with Multi-Health Systems, she is certified with the Leadership Circle Profile, and she is a PI Certified Talent Optimization Consultant. Furthermore, Michele has her Masters' degrees in Literature and Accounting.

Mike has been with Vistage International for some 24 years, and currently serves as a Vistage master chair for four groups. Mike also serves as an executive consultant in leadership, turnaround situations, mergers and acquisitions, finance, global marketing, and strategic planning. At Arizona State University. Mike serves as a professor emeritus in the WP Carry School of Business with research and teaching interest centered on leadership, marketing, strategy, and entrepreneurship.
Mike has held positions on boards and is a member of the board or interim president for several of these. He has held leadership positions, such as the vice president of marketing at Memorex Corporation and a variety of other roles at IBM. He has also held executive positions, such as CEO, COO, and other presidential roles in 12 companies, including Mortgages Limited, Learning Edge, and LandTech Environmental. Furthermore, Mike was a member of the US Air Force Academy class of 1967 and served in the Southeast Asia area during the Vietnam war. He earned his master's from Columbia University and his Doctorate from Capella University in organization and management with a specialization in leadership. In our conversation, we explore Mike's career, thoughts on leadership, and his metaphor that leadership is like surfing.

This is episode 1092 of the Arete Coach Podcast with Severin Sorensen and his guest Chip Webster is a long-term Vistage Chair, Co-Founder of TEC/Vistage Keepers of the Flame, Mentor, Strategic Consultant, Business Owner, and Author. When not traveling across the US in his luxury RV, Chip lives and works in Tampa, Florida.
Chip was an early leader in the peer-to-peer learning space with over 3 decades of experience providing high-level mentoring, strategic support, and executive guidance to over 100 companies. He is the former President of Consolidated Directories, an early phone book company. As a Vistage Chair he led four chief and key executive peer groups. In 1999, he was awarded the Don Cope Award, and was later promoted to President of Vistage Florida, where he oversaw 45 Vistage Chairs and 75 Vistage groups. He is a co-founder of TEC (Vistage) Keepers of the Flame.
This interview contains a rich conversation that spanned many topics, from a poem Chip wrote called 'Act Now' inspired by the inspirational prodding of poet David Whyte, to Chair/Coach musings about ' the 'power of peer groups,' to exploring powerful questions, to sharing thoughts from his new book (in writing) about civic duty and safeguarding democracy. Arete Coach Podcast 1090 Severin Sorensen - Honoring Prof Anthony Grant and Evidence Based Coaching
This is episode 1090 of the Arete Coach Podcast with host Severin Sorensen with a special episode that honors the life, legacy, and contributions of professor Anthony Grant PhD, the father of evidence-based coaching.
Professor Anthony Grant (1954-2020) is often credited as ‘the father of evidence-based coaching” and in 2000 he “established the world’s first Coaching Psychology Unit at the School of Psychology at The University of Sydney.” (Grant, 2020). As director of the Coaching Psychology Unit, Anthony Grant made great strides toward establishing the efficacy of evidence-based coaching. He collaborated widely with colleagues at Sydney University and researchers worldwide. Through his focused attention, research, teaching, and collaborations, Anthony has supported the development of the evidence-based coaching industry, and his impact on the industry continues today. In academia, a scholar's contributions and community significance is often captured by academic key performance indicators: for example, SemanticScholar shows that Professor Grant has 111 publications of record, eight books, 27 book chapters, and over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, and more research is being published that was started before his death.
The episode explores Professor Grant's life contributions and a new article written by Severin Sorensen, M.Phil., and Nathalie Lerotic Pavlik, MSc, MBPsS, "Towards Evidence-Based Coaching Practice: “Taking Out the Sham, and Putting in the Wham” – Honoring the Life, Legacy, and Research of Professor Anthony Grant, PhD." In the article, we review several findings in Professor Grant's coaching research that informs the coaching practice today. We explore themes like, When is coaching best practice actually bad practice? How can coaching research inform coaching practice?
