“Arete Coach Podcast" Explores the "Art and Science" of Executive Coaching hosted by Severin Sorensen. The “Arete Coach Podcast" is for executive coaches and anyone considering becoming an executive coach. The podcast is especially valuable to executive coaches who are lifetime learners with deep curiosity about the "art and science" of coaching. In this podcast, the ‘art of coaching’ is explored through engaging interviews with leading executive coaches from diverse backgrounds sharing their individual coaching journeys, learnings, methods, best questions, and situational approaches to executive coaching. Beyond best practices, the podcast will regularly mine research on the ‘science of coaching’ and explores ongoing scientific discoveries and studies looking for what works and why, with an aim to improve the core body of knowledge for executive coaches and the industry.

This is episode 1,108 of the Arete Coach Podcast with host Severin Sorensen and guest Julie Noonan, who is an executive coach and CEO of Julie Noonan Consulting, LLC, transformational change leader, speaker, consultant, and futurist. Julie's career in business started in Banking, working her way up to VP of Training for First Union National Bank, and Senior VP and Training Director at Key Bank. She started her career as a learning consultant at Ernst and Young's Center for Business Knowledge.
Today Julie is mixing it up, encouraging what she calls 'switch mentoring' getting young and old cohorts of workers to knowledge and wisdom share. In the conversation we explore Julie's comment 'people are emotional beings that occasionally think.' We explore the messy business of human relations and corporate layoffs wherein Julie has coached business leaders through hard times. We explore 'how to deal with the messiness of people, and the emotional baggage of people as business coaches and leaders. We go at length in a discussion about the business layoff process and getting leaders to feel and think ahead during this time.
Julie has worked with some of the US largest companies in creating centers for excellence, and most recently a center for the adoption of AI in the workplace. We explore how 'boomers' need to continue to learn, and particularly learn from younger generations, to stay employable, creative, and marketable at the sunset years of their careers. In the interview, we explore Julie's mantras, favorite questions, and outlook on life and coaching.

There is evidence to suggest that having a grateful heart can have positive effects on an individual's personal and mental health. Several studies have found that gratitude can improve mental health and well-being, and that it is associated with a number of benefits, including:
Reduced stress and anxiety: Research has found that gratitude can help to reduce stress and anxiety by increasing positive emotions and reducing negative emotions (Emmons & McCullough, 2003).Improved self-esteem: Gratitude has been found to be associated with higher levels of self-esteem, as it helps individuals to recognize and appreciate their own worth and value (McCullough, Emmons, & Tsang, 2002).Enhanced well-being: Gratitude has been linked to increased well-being, as it helps individuals to focus on the positive aspects of their lives and to feel more satisfied with their lives overall (Seligman, Steen, Park, & Peterson, 2005).Improved physical health: Some research has found that gratitude is associated with better physical health, including lower blood pressure and a stronger immune system (Kozasa, Mummidisetty, Yamauchi, & Kato, 2017).Increased social connections: Gratitude has been linked to increased social connections, as it helps individuals to feel more connected to others and to be more giving and helpful towards others (Froh, Sefick, & Emmons, 2008).

Arete Coach Podcast 1099 Vikki Brock PhD MCC 'Sourcebook of Coaching History'
This is episode 1099 of the Arete Coach Podcast with host Severin Sorensen and guest Dr. Vikki Brock, PhD, MCC. Vikki is an executive coach, an ICF Master Certified Coach, consultant, mentor, and author of The Sourcebook of Coaching History.
In 1995 Vikki left her 21-year career at The Boeing Company to start VB Coaching and Consulting. Today she is an ICF Master Certified Coach, consultant, and mentor. She earned her Executive MBA and a Ph.D. in Coaching and Human Development. When she was coaching, she brought wisdom, experience, and research-based processes to move leaders and individuals to higher stages of personal awareness and effectiveness. Vikki encouraged her clients to take “their leadership and their life to the next level” in a challenging yet non-judgemental way. Vikki is the author of The Sourcebook of Coaching History, “a comprehensive review of the historical roots of coaching and the influence of pioneers from related fields.”
Vikki was closely involved with the early founders of modern coaching: Thomas Leonard and Laura Whitworth. Vikki was an early member of ICF (member #60) and since its creation in 1996 , she was one of the first coaches to receive an MCC from the ICF in 1998. She also was on faculty for the University of Texas at Dallas Coaching Certificate program, and taught for several coach training schools internationally.
