#228 How to choose which events to attend

Let’s get event planning!   We are all well versed in mandatory training and where development within our individual roles is measured by the ‘must do’ workplace-based courses but when it comes to the events we choose, how do we target those which are most likely to make the biggest impact on our personal growth, and in our learning and progression as businesses and business leaders?  Before the ‘new year, new me’ effect truly wears off (!) and diaries fill up even further, I bring to you a podcast episode focused on my own approach to events planning; both in terms of benchmarking and recognising my own personal development goals, and when considering the design and delivery of THC Primary Care’s own events.    Listen on to hear my advice and experiences about:    Why not to book events too far in advance (unless there are more complex travel and logistical implications)    When timing matters (especially when it comes to release of new guidance or embedding new process locally)    How attending events which are not necessarily role or sector-specific can also be incredibly empowering    What to consider when choosing your events, and thinking carefully about what you really want to get out of them, be it; opportunities to network or connect with peers, access to industry insights and policy development, completion of formal professional development, and / or marketing your product or services.    I also offer insight into my approach in putting together our PCN Plus live event, which is open for registration NOW for all PCN leaders and takes place in Nottingham on Wednesday 1st March.     And my other recommended events?    The Primary Care Conference hosted by The NHS Confederation on 22nd February 2023    Best Practice London from 8th to 9th March 2023    NHS ConfedExpo 2023 in Manchester from the 14th to 15th June 2023     I also mention reading the book ‘The Art of Gathering’ and the advice I have taken about events management from Jessica Smith, Co-Founder at SomX. Both speak of the importance of value in an event, not just what we can get from them, something I have embraced and taken to heart.     Work with me        I’m Tara Humphrey and I am the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy. I provide project and network management to Primary Care Networks and consulting support to clinical leads. #227 5 book recommendations to improve your communication, leadership and productivity

It’s our third episode of 2023 and to counter any recent effects of ‘Blue Monday’, as ever, it’s my aim to offer some inspiration! So, this week on the podcast, I’m fully focused on my top five, most recently impactful reads, for those seeking empowerment, increased productivity levels and improved communication and leadership skills.    These books have truly influenced my approach; both internally at THC Primary Care as a business leader, and in the way I collaborate with the networks and teams within my client-facing portfolio. Each of them has remained an enduring and key reference point when it comes to:    Growing my business  Nurturing and empowering staff   Continually striving to communicate well  Recognising the importance of self-awareness, manifestation, visualisation and remaining positive  Adapting and adopting different approaches to prioritisation, organisation of time and task management Writing down goals, ideas, and giving your ‘second brain’ the stimulation and the respect it deserves Maintaining consistency And finally…. why taking a break from social media might be a good thing….    So, in no particular order, the books that you need in your life right now are:    Twelve And A Half by Gary Vaynerchuk found here  Manifest by Roxie Nafousi found here  Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey found here  Building A Second Brain by Tiago Forte found here  The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy found here    Mentions in this episode     BoH podcast #131 Gratitude & Affirmations as a Business Strategy with Natalie Eckdahl  BoH podcast #219 Seeing Beyond What Your Organisation Does with Dr Owen Williams  Asana task management system  Good Notes app  K Digital Studio digital planner    Work with me        I’m Tara Humphrey and I’m the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy. #224 Designing Your Career with Tara Humphrey

This is the first podcast of 2023 and I think for many people, the start of a new year provides us with the opportunity to look back and reflect over the past year. For me, one of the highlights of last year was the amount I got to travel for work I think because I'm happy to travel, because I have a really strong support system which enables me to do this, and because I leverage social media, this podcast and our blog, this exposure has created so many opportunities that have given me the flexibility to design my career.   ·       I'm a CEO of a company which is soon to have 10 employees ·       I'm a podcaster – where I share my insights of being a health care manager and have interviews with established leaders in the field of health and care ·       I'm a blogger where we share Primary Care Network leadership and management advice ·       And within my job, I am a hands on PCN Manager and facilitator and consultant and advisor   I don’t think what I have built is a conventional consultancy.   I am just following my passions, saying yes to the opportunities that interest me, taken a few risks, investing in myself and to a degree, I’m happy to make a bunch of mistakes along the way. I think that’s how you design your career is unique to you. If you have the desire to do something different, a create a side hustle, or take on a project that maybe pushes you outside of your comfort zone or even change your job entirely, maybe 2023 is the year to do this. You do not have to be one thing or do the same thing you have always done, but it’s up to you and down to you to create opportunities. I believe, in order to make this happen, you need to be a bit braver and give yourself the permission to try something different, knowing that the worse thing that could happen is you would be to simply fail.   It's OK to try something and it not work. It can be emotionally painful, time-consuming and financially costly BUT lol…. Don’t let that put you off. Be smart and take steps that will help you to minimise the risks.   I absolutely love the career I am building, and I feel both content and excited to do more and try more.   This year, instead of having a word for 2023, we are going for a vibe that vibe is NEXT Level.   In 2023, I want to do things that take me as a Leader, business owner, podcaster and blogger to the next level which at the moment requires me to be both a bit braver, and bit more focussed. I would like to end this podcast asking you to consider: 1.     What do you want your vibe of the year to be? 2.     If you were a bit braver, career-wise what would you do? 3.     Are there any areas which require a bit more focus and what would this look like?   Work with me    I’m Tara Humphrey and I’m the founder of THC Primary Care, a leading healthcare consultancy. I provide project and network management to Primary Care Networks and consulting support to clinical leads.
