Complexity, Scientism & The Brain Of The C-Elegans Worm
Flagship Interview Podcast: 🎙️ A Curious Worldview - (this is the one I speak about at the end) https://curiousworldview.buzzsprout.com/1485736The difference between understanding the components of something versus how that same thing works can be everything. It’s clearly not a universal rule. By understanding the components of a bike, and then how each component behaves with the other we can confidently claim to know how a bike works. I know that cycling the sturdy pedal will pull the chain that will then turn the wheels.Everything else around that core functioning is just aesthetic or qualitative detail. But by mapping out all the organic components of a human body, from organs to bones and everything in between – does our understanding of each component then inform to confidently assert how it all works? I am not sure.Just because you can map out a system does not mean you understand how it behaves.Article Attached To This Podcast! - https://atlasgeographica.com/complexity-the-brain-of-the-c-elegans-worm/--------Also my interview podcasts - 🎙️ A Curious Worldview - has had and will continue to have some of the most interesting voices in the world on to speak about whatever the extension of our mutual interests are at the time - https://atlasgeographica.com/a-curious-worldview/My new Geopolitics & Power Podcast - Interesting tidbits from around the world documenting major geopolitical moves or projects you might have missed. Understanding Regression Towards The Mean
Flagship Interview Podcast: 🎙️ A Curious Worldview https://curiousworldview.buzzsprout.com/1485736Regression towards the mean attempts to dampen our hyperbolic reaction to both outliers and those significant but rare exceptions.A classic example of regression towards the mean is a very familiar one to my countrymen of Australia. Christian Busch | The Link Between Antifragility & Serendipity + How To Invite Serendipity Into Your Life
Flagship Interview Podcast: 🎙️ A Curious Worldview https://curiousworldview.buzzsprout.com/1485736Article Attached To This Podcast! - https://atlasgeographica.com/christian-busch-serendipity/Life can be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards. How can we predict a future of infinite possibilities based on a finite experience of the past? Along the lines of Taleb's fooled by randomness metaphor - we all cross the busy street every day - and although some fools will occasionally make it to the other side, blindfolded to the world while others who meticulously path their way will still be wiped out - noticing the serendipity, noticing the infinite potential of divergent paths, at least this returns to you the liberty of control and hopefully, if your lucky, an exposure to serendipity that can change your life precisely the way you dreamt it would. There is much to this podcast, in it, you can expect to learn about...Frederick Hayek on SerendipityThe opportunity cost of always optimising for SerendipityAn international look at how different cultures experience randomnessSome Nassim Taleb of courseAnd then finally I ask Christian for some advice (you will see, forcing a type of serendipity)Jump In On My Newsletter 📋 🔑 - https://atlasgeographica.com/subscribeFeel Free To Peruse My 📷 Instagram & Twitter 🐦 Mates!-----00:00 - Introduction06:10 - Distinction Between Randomness & Serendipity10:30 - Hayek On Serendipity18:00 - Great Anecdotes Of Serendipity From History19:00 - The Opportunity Cost Of Always Optimising For Serendipity26:05 - How Serendipity Is Understood Across Different Cultures36:40 - On Cultivating Serendipity41:10 - Introducing Nassim Taleb, The Birthday Paradox & Exponential Functions50:22 - Optimising Serendipity For A Hypothetical Person60:16 - Afterthoughts--------Also my interview podcasts - 🎙️ A Curious Worldview - has had and will continue to have some of the most interesting voices in the world on to speak about whatever the extension of our mutual interests are at the time - https://atlasgeographica.com/a-curious-worldview/My new Geopolitics & Power Podcast - Interesting tidbits from around the world documenting major geopolitical moves or projects you might have missed. Ergodicity Simply Explained (Nassim Taleb's Favourite Concept)
Flagship Interview Podcast: 🎙️ A Curious Worldview https://curiousworldview.buzzsprout.com/1485736Perhaps I am reaching beyond my grasp, but here is ergodicity simply explained. In the most basic terms I can manage. An ergodic scenario, whose phenomenon extracted would then be explained as ergodicity – is when the average outcome of a group is the same as the average outcome of an individual, over time.Article Attached To This Podcast! - https://atlasgeographica.com/ergodicity-simply-explained/--------Also my interview podcasts - 🎙️ A Curious Worldview - has had and will continue to have some of the most interesting voices in the world on to speak about whatever the extension of our mutual interests are at the time - https://atlasgeographica.com/a-curious-worldview/My new Geopolitics & Power Podcast - Interesting tidbits from around the world documenting major geopolitical moves or projects you might have missed. The Precautionary Principle | Nassim Taleb
Flagship Interview Podcast: 🎙️ A Curious Worldview https://curiousworldview.buzzsprout.com/148573699% of the things we do in our daily lives are based on the precautionary principle. Since many of the decisions we make, the risks (no matter how inconsequential) are typically not understood until after the decision has been made. The precautionary principle is an instinctual survival mechanism that protects us from the ultimate risk.
