Our series on building a Godly home kicks off in the same place Paul does in Ephesians - with instructions to wives. What does biblical, godly submission look like in the home? How does it differ from the ways people have abused this doctrine and also the ways people have misunderstood it? How can a wife put the Gospel on display in her home? We believe healthy families are one of the building blocks for a healthy church so we will be pursuing that together in this series.

All of us are facing something that can stir anxiety in our hearts. Health issues, relational burdens, financial instability, political wars, literal wars, spiritual battles, and the list goes on and on. How exactly can we obey Jesus’ words to “not be anxious?” Not only do we have the comforting words of Jesus that He is with us and knows what we need, but Paul gives us very practical and specific truths we can apply today to fight anxiety and instead live with thankfulness and peace.

Matthew 12 has been a chapter where we have seen the Pharisees as enemies of Jesus and His Kingdom. Now as we come to a close on this chapter, we are shown what it means to be a member of Jesus' True family. It comes through a seemingly unimportant story about Jesus' family wanting to speak with Him. This passage teaches us the importance of being a part of Jesus' True Family and how exactly we can be sure that we are. It also warns us of the potential danger of being close to Jesus.

The Pharisees continue their attacks against Jesus, but this time it's veiled as a sincere request for Him to show a sign proving Himself to be the Messiah. Jesus' response is once again a stinging rebuke to these hypocritical leaders while at the same time a challenge for all of us to consider if we're more like the Pharisees than we care to admit. This passage also happens to be a great summary of the message of the Gospel according to Matthew.

Many of us don't pay much attention to the things we say for much of the day. We consider our actions to often be more important than our words. But Jesus says that our words can reveal just as much about our heart as our actions do. As a matter of fact, Jesus says that we will be judged for "every careless word" we utter. This is a sobering truth and one we should pay attention to.

You may have heard the term “the unforgivable sin” before. Maybe you are concerned about whether or not you’ve committed - or can potentially commit - an unforgivable sin. Our passage this week will answer that question for you and encourage you to trust in the complete forgiveness of Jesus for you. We will also be challenged to confess our faith in Jesus publicly and will even have a chance to do that together as we partake of communion.

Matthew quotes Isaiah to give us a close look at the heart of Jesus. Even though He is facing fierce opposition from the Pharisees, He does not "quarrel or cry aloud." He instead continues in steadfast love toward those who are weak and broken - or those who are like a "bruised reed" or "smoldering wick." These are some of the most comforting words about our Savior in the entire Bible.

Matthew 12 is where the opposition to Jesus from the Pharisees really begins to amp up and it all begins with conflict over Jesus' actions on the Sabbath. Jesus declares Himself to be the Lord of the Sabbath and teaches us some important lessons as we seek to follow God's Laws.
