On today’s podcast I speak with photographer Andrew Caulfield also known as Ando. Ando is a San Francisco based photographer who recently published a book titled “REAL SF” which documented the homeless community in San Francisco,CA. All of the proceeds of Ando’s new book are being donated to the Larkin Street Youth Services organization which helps get people off the streets at a young age. In this interview I speak to Ando about how he got into photography, his love of travel, photographing people , and I also speak to Ando about his love of skateboarding which has allowed him to document some of the most legendary skaters such as Mike Carroll, Tom Penny, Keith Hufnagel, and Elissa Steamer to name a few. Ando has been a figurehead of the SF skate scene for many years and is someone who is continually shooting and looking for ways to use his photography for a good cause so I was really pumped to get a chance to speak with him about his new book and his journey with photography. David Hume Kennerly is a pulitzer prize winning photographer for his images documenting the Vietnam and Cambodia wars, refugees escaping from East Pakistan to India, and the Ali vs. Frazier “Fight of the Century”. David worked as the official white house photographer for President Gerald R. Ford where he had unrestricted access to the President on a daily basis. In this interview I speak to David about his early days working for newspapers in the Pacific Northwest, his friendship with Ansel Adams who he photographed for the cover of Time Magazine, and I also speak to David about his approach to covering US politics for nearly 50 years for the top publications in the business.
