Gina Rippon | Gendered Expectations
Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus. Bet you’ve heard that before. The idea that men’s brains are wired for logical systems and map reading, while women’s brains excel at emotional intelligence and intuition is deeply culturally embedded. And, it’s complete garbage. Professor Gina Rippon is an international researcher in the field of cognitive neuroscience, and in her book, The Gendered Brain, she looks at the infuriating persistence of the idea of brain difference, and it’s misogynistic roots. In this conversation, Professor Rippon is interviewed by Fauziah Ibrahim and they explore her own experience of the difference within her own family. Change Your Mind with Michael Pollan
“Eat food, not too much, mostly plants”. This frequently quoted dietary manifesto comes from my guest today in the studio, the writer and journalist Michael Pollan. Michael is the author of six New York Times bestsellers, but it was his book The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which interrogated the way we eat and our food production systems, that really brought him to global attention. More recently he has shifted his focus from food to psychedelics, and in his book, How to Change your Mind, he puts his body and brain on the line to properly explore their benefits and dangers. This conversation is quite the trip. Watch An Evening with Michael Pollan Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Deborah Lipstadt - Interview
Before 1996, Deborah Lipstadt was a well-regarded professor of modern Jewish History. That was before the infamous Holocaust denier, David Irving, decided to sue her for libel. Her most recent book is called Anti-Semitism: Here and Now. And here, she’s speaking with Benjamin Law. Reasons to be Cheerful | Rutger Bregman & Jess Scully at Antidote 2020
Doomscrolling can convince us the world is full of evil people - but bad news is only part of the story. Curator and councillor Jess Scully's new book, Glimpses of Utopia, highlights stories from around the world where people respond to crises with hope and help. In Kenya and Bangladesh slums are being transformed to safe havens, and care workers are reclaiming control in India and Lebanon. Likewise, Dutch popular historian Rutger Bregman reveals that humans are not destructive and selfish, but innately communal and cooperative. What new possibilities can we imagine for society, politics, and economics, if we accept that human beings are inherently peaceful and friendly? Enjoy this conversation between two radical optimists who look to a sustainable and inclusive future. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
