124: Clint Kimmins - Big Wave Surfer & Pro Long-course Triathlete

Clint Kimmins went from being a childhood surfing professional prodigy to prison inmate before then morphing over to become a Professional Long Course Triathlete and also a big wave Surfer pursuing the World’s Big Wave Surfing Tour. In this conversation you’re going to hear Clint share around the highs, the lows and the learnings of his sporting career and pursuits to date. Clint takes us back to the early highs of his Junior Professional Surfing Career where he was touted as one of Australia’s hottest up and coming talents. Travelling the world through his teens and also into his early 20’s. And then the crossroad, Clint shares very vividly around how he found himself sentenced to 18 months in prison with a minimum time of six months for an unlawful wounding incident which he was convicted of before the Courts.  Clint takes us through his time behind bars and how coming out on the other side has shaped him into the man he is today. He now completes competitively in Long Course Triathlon around the World with his ultimate goal being to compete in the professional category, the World’s Top 50 Athletes who start in Hawaii Ironman Professional Ranks of the World Triathlon Championships in Kona Hawaii. In tandem with that Clint knows he has the talent to compete on the world big wave world tour. He shares today around the process of being selected to compete on that tour, he also shares around the goal he has and that is to become the World Big Wave Surfing Champion and the belief that underpins that. 120: Adam Didyk - Aus Distance Running Coach

Adam Didyk’s coaching bio is very impressive, Adam has been an Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championship Team Coach. Adam has been Athletics Australia Coach of the Year Nominee in 2016 and 2017, the Athletics South Australia Coach of the Year in 2011/2012. Adam is the Founder of Team Tempo Run hailing from South Australia and some of Adam’s most notable Athletic performances with his squad would have included Jess Trengrove who has been a dual Commonwealth Games Marathon Bronze Medallist in 2014 at Glascow and on the Gold Coast in 2018. Jess has also been a dual Australian Olympic Marathon Representative. Matty Hills and Jared Tallent have been former athletes under the tutelage of Adam Didyk and Jared of course was the Olympic Commonwealth Games Race Walk-in Champion. 119: Dick Telford - Aus Distance Running Coach + Sports Scientist (AM, AUS Sports Hall of Fame Inductee)

Some of Dick Telford’s formal bestowed recognitions include being recognised with the member of the Order AM for the Australian Honour Systems for Dick’s services to sports and sports sciences. In 2017 Dick was named as the ACT Senior Citizen of the Year. Dick was recently inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Dick was actually the first Sports Scientist appointed by the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS). Dick also worked with the Australian Swim Team and the Australian Canoeing Team in the capacity of exercise Physiologist. Dick left the AIS Physiology to take up distance running coaching role with the AIS Track and Field. It was from here Dick that would go on to achieve some incredible achievements with his athletes. Dick was then appointed Australian Athletics distance running coach in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. And Dick coached Lisa Ondieki to the Silver Medal in the Women’s Marathon of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Australia’s only Olympic Marathon Medallist to date. 118: Laura Thweatt - US Distance Runner (2:25 marathon)

Laura Thweatt is a Saucony sponsored athlete who is aiming for 2020 Olympic Marathon representing the USA. Laura was the 2015 USA cross country champion, the 2013 and 2014 USA cross country club champion and boasts an incredible PR for the marathon of 2:25:38. Laura has PB’s across the 10km of 31:52, the 5km of 15:04 and 3km of 8:57. Laura and Brad recently caught up in person on the eve of the 2018 Gold Coast Marathon where Laura was about to run the Half Marathon. 117: Kristian Blummenfelt - Olympic Triathlete, Super League Triathlon Champion

Kristian Blummenfelt sprung to promise in 2017 with some solid performances including his victory in the Super League triathlon series in Jersey. Kristian quickly followed that up with a win in the 70.3 Bahrain Triathlon overcoming some of sports best names. In 2018 Kristian has taken a podium in the Bermuda leg in the world triathlon series and he firmly has his eyes on a gold medal in Tokyo 2020. 116: Brad Kahlefeldt - Dual Olympic, Commonwealth Games Triathlon Champion (2006)

In episode 116 of The Physical Performance Show Brad Beer has a conversation with Brad Kahlefeldt - Dual Olympic, Commonwealth Games Triathlon Champion (2006). Brad Kahlefeldt was a Dual Olympic Games representative competing for Australia in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and also the 2012 London Olympic Games. Following Brad’s short course triathlon career he transitioned to the world of 70.3 Half Ironman Triathlon and during that time included some successful add-ins across the Ironman distance. Brad really excelled though by racing across the Olympic distance 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run.  Of the 90 starts on the World Triathlon Series, Brad podiumed a remarkable 42 times and won 16 times. During this episode, Brad shares the highs, the lows and the learnings from his incredible professional triathlon career which spans 20 years. He shares around overcoming some serious injuries including stress reaction, stress fractures and even multiple bouts of pneumonia. Brad discusses the start of his career which included the catch up that he had to play with his swim in order to be competitive on the world scene. We also touch on the first road marathon that Brad will embark on at the Gold Coast Marathon in 2018 where Brad will be looking to take out the Kahlefeldt Marathon PB over his six siblings and 2 marathon parents who between them have run 40 road marathons. 115: Ken Wallace - Olympic Champion, K1-500m Sprint Kayak (2008), OAM

In episode 115 of The Physical Performance Show Brad Beer has a conversation with Ken Wallace - Olympic Champion, K1-500m Sprint Kayak (2008), OAM. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Ken Wallace won a gold medal in the K1 500m Kayak Sprint, prior to that Ken won a Bronze Medal in the K1 1000m Kayak sprint. This was Ken’s favourite event. Since his Beijing Olympic success, Ken has represented Australia at the London Olympic Games and then again in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where he won a bronze medal by pairing up in K2 1000m with Lachlan Tame. During this episode Ken Wallace takes us through his formative years and discusses growing up in the world of surf lifesaving where he discovered the sprint kayak.  He recounts the story of the first time he went paddling before going on to forge a stellar career in the kayak by taking multiple world titles and of course what’s been numerous Olympic medals. Ken is looking forward to Tokyo 2020 which will be his fourth Olympic Games and during this episode shares the highs and lows and learnings of his remarkable career to date.
