Jonny takes us through the Genesis story that saw him take to two wheels. Turning pro in 2008 and then his Tour de France Grand Tour debut with Team Saxo Bank in the 2012-13 Season. 126: Dr Peter Brukner OAM - Prof Sports Medicine, Author, Founder SugarByHalf
By way of introduction, Dr Brukner is an OAM Order of Australia Medallist and he’s a world renowned Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician and Researcher. Up until recently Dr. Brukner was the team Doctor for the Australian Cricket Team, a position that he held for 5 years. Dr. Brukner held similar positions at the Liverpool Football Club and Melbourne and Collingwood AFL Clubs and the Australian Soccer Team and was also a Sports Doctor across multiple National Olympic Commonwealth Games Athletics Teams. Dr. Brukner is a Professor of Sports Medicine at Latrobe University, he is also the author of numerous books including Clinical Sports Medicine and Food for Sport. 125: Jaryd Clifford - World Para-athletic bronze medallist (1500m), World Record Holder T12/13 1500m, U/20 AUS 1500m able-body champion
Jaryd is a classified T12 visually impaired very fast Track Runner. Earlier this year Jaryd set a World Record for the T12 visually impaired class in the 1500m, and lets not forget Jaryd is just the tender age of 18 years old. Jaryd ran an incredible 3:45 to post the World Record and that is off the back of some other remarkable achievements in recent times. Jaryd recently won the under 20 years able bodied 1500m in a time of 3:49. Jaryd first divbuted for Australia the 2015 International Paralympic Committee World Champs in Doha Qatar where he placed 7th in the 5000m, he then went on to match this result the 2016 Paralympic Games in doing so shaving 49 seconds off his 2015 time and setting an oceanic record in the 1500m and that 2016 Paralympic Rio experience. Jaryd had an extraordinarily 2016-2017 summer season where he slashed masses of times from his personal best, he went on at just 18 to become a Bronze Medallist in the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships earlier this year. During this conversation Jaryd takes us through what it was like for him as a young boy. His diagnosis of Juvenile Macular Degeneration which was made at the age of 3, pursuing other sports before focusing Jaryd’s efforts on distance running, what is like before living day to day with the challenges that he encounters, we talk about bucket list, becoming the school captain, a usual physical performance round and of course the physical challenge for the week. 124: Clint Kimmins - Big Wave Surfer & Pro Long-course Triathlete
Clint Kimmins went from being a childhood surfing professional prodigy to prison inmate before then morphing over to become a Professional Long Course Triathlete and also a big wave Surfer pursuing the World’s Big Wave Surfing Tour. In this conversation you’re going to hear Clint share around the highs, the lows and the learnings of his sporting career and pursuits to date. Clint takes us back to the early highs of his Junior Professional Surfing Career where he was touted as one of Australia’s hottest up and coming talents. Travelling the world through his teens and also into his early 20’s. And then the crossroad, Clint shares very vividly around how he found himself sentenced to 18 months in prison with a minimum time of six months for an unlawful wounding incident which he was convicted of before the Courts. Clint takes us through his time behind bars and how coming out on the other side has shaped him into the man he is today. He now completes competitively in Long Course Triathlon around the World with his ultimate goal being to compete in the professional category, the World’s Top 50 Athletes who start in Hawaii Ironman Professional Ranks of the World Triathlon Championships in Kona Hawaii. In tandem with that Clint knows he has the talent to compete on the world big wave world tour. Adam Didyk’s coaching bio is very impressive, Adam has been an Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championship Team Coach. Adam has been Athletics Australia Coach of the Year Nominee in 2016 and 2017, the Athletics South Australia Coach of the Year in 2011/2012. Adam is the Founder of Team Tempo Run hailing from South Australia and some of Adam’s most notable Athletic performances with his squad would have included Jess Trengrove who has been a dual Commonwealth Games Marathon Bronze Medallist in 2014 at Glascow and on the Gold Coast in 2018. Jess has also been a dual Australian Olympic Marathon Representative. 119: Dick Telford - Aus Distance Running Coach + Sports Scientist (AM, AUS Sports Hall of Fame Inductee)
Some of Dick Telford’s formal bestowed recognitions include being recognised with the member of the Order AM for the Australian Honour Systems for Dick’s services to sports and sports sciences. In 2017 Dick was named as the ACT Senior Citizen of the Year. Dick was recently inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Dick was actually the first Sports Scientist appointed by the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS). Dick also worked with the Australian Swim Team and the Australian Canoeing Team in the capacity of exercise Physiologist. Dick left the AIS Physiology to take up distance running coaching role with the AIS Track and Field. It was from here Dick that would go on to achieve some incredible achievements with his athletes. Dick was then appointed Australian Athletics distance running coach in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. And Dick coached Lisa Ondieki to the Silver Medal in the Women’s Marathon of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Australia’s only Olympic Marathon Medallist to date. 118: Laura Thweatt - US Distance Runner (2:25 marathon)
Laura Thweatt is a Saucony sponsored athlete who is aiming for 2020 Olympic Marathon representing the USA. Laura was the 2015 USA cross country champion, the 2013 and 2014 USA cross country club champion and boasts an incredible PR for the marathon of 2:25:38.
