What is the difference between Book Insights episodes and Book Lounge episodes?
Book Insights are formal, structured summary, analysis and exploration of a bestselling nonfiction book. Each episode is read by a professional voice actor and will introduce a new title selected specifically for its value to your work and life. Book Lounge episodes are casual discussions about the book, the author, and anything else that comes along through the course of conversation. It’s more of a broad chat about how the book relates to current, everyday life.
Should I listen to both the Book Insight and the Book Lounge episode on the same book?
Sure! Each episode works fine as a standalone piece, so no requirement to listen to both or to listen in any particular order, but we definitely recommend (and think you’ll enjoy!) both. Think of it like reading a book and liking it so much you want to chat about it on the porch with a friend. That is the vibe at the Book Lounge.

Jordan Peterson's Life Wisdom | Book Insights on 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson
*Jordan Peterson has been a controversial figure since he spoke out against a Canadian government bill concerning gender identity and expression.
*His book tour promoting 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos has met with angry protests and some academics and commentators have rounded on him, questioning his credibility.
*At the same time, Peterson’s public lectures regularly sell out, his YouTube channel has almost two million subscribers and 12 Rules for Life has become a runaway success.
*The book is a sort of manual for a good life, offering a set of principles that help us live up to our potential – to organize our lives in such a way that it makes us less the product of chaos, uncertainty and randomness, and more the result of our design.
*The book’s tenets are decidedly non-political, and might seem rather obvious and simplistic at first glance. But Peterson backs up his rules with reference to philosophy, religion, myth, and psychology. His starting point is that “life is suffering” and striving for happiness is futile – we should be more concerned with leading a meaningful life.

Introverts' Hidden Powers | Book Insights on Quiet by Susan Cain
*Introversion/extroversion is the most fundamental divide in personality, Susan Cain argues, the ‘North and South of temperament’.
*Yet extroversion has become the ideal in the West, at the expense of our appreciation of introverted qualities. Centering a whole culture – be it a company, university or nation – on extroversion, means that decision-making gets taken over by the more assertive, while quieter, often more knowledgeable types are ignored – to the group’s cost.
*Cain attempts to redress the balance, pointing out that introverts, rather than being timid, withdrawn or even depressed, simply crave less environmental stimulation, including social stimulation.
*Gandhi, Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt – all introverts – helped change the course of history. Society clearly functions best when it cultivates the best qualities of both introverts and extroverts.
*It’s time to reassert the power of introversion and acknowledge the ways in which both types can function optimally together.

Sapiens: Harari Explains Humanity | Book Insights on Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
*Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind is a book that dares to tackle the biggest questions about the progress of humanity. Harari puts pay to the idea that the study of history is a dusty affair involving arcane debates about the reigns of forgotten kings.
*Instead, he pulls together familiar portions of history – such as the rise of the first cities, the age of exploration, the Industrial Revolution – to create a much bigger story about the progress of our species.
*This is history on a vast canvas. Sapiens also shines a light on the deep origins of human capacities that we mostly take for granted, including the ability to reason and to cooperate with each other.
*He shows why these things have made Homo sapiens the most brilliant – and the most deadly – animal on the planet.
