EP152: Simplifying Our Approach to Longevity with Marta Zaraska
Today I bring you my conversation with author and journalist, Marta Zaraska. We spoke about longevity and how we can actually apply our minimalist mindset when it comes to pursuing a long, healthy life. It’s Marta’s belief that the very same efforts that rejuvenate our bodies and help us live long also help us grow as people: nurturing relationships, developing better mental habits, becoming kinder, more empathic, more involved in the community. We become so fixated on miracle diets, miracle foods, miracle supplements etc. We skip gluten and invest in exercise gadgets. We swallow vitamins. We obsess about BMI. While healthy nutrition and physical activity are indeed important for health, there are things we all too often sacrifice that have an outsize impact on our centenarian potential. Friendships. Purpose in life. Empathy. Kindness. Volunteering. Science shows that these 'soft' health drivers are often more powerful than diet and exercise. Throughout the episode, we'll dive into more of what Marta has researched in her book.Show Notes for EP152: Simplifying Our Approach to LongevityEnjoy this Podcast?Learning how you can get rid of clutter and live an intentional and purposeful life has never been this simple. EP150: What Are You Saying "Yes" To? with Jennifer Burnham
Today I bring you my conversation with simplicity coach, Jennifer Burnham. This is Jennifer's second time on the podcast (her first appearance was back on episode eighty-two). Jennifer is a believer in that organizing isn't complicated, time is sacred, and money is a renewable resource. Her work is dedicated to listening to the story your stuff is telling and then helps you rewrite it one room at a time. In this conversation, we'll discuss whether our possessions are the chain or the anchor in life, how to plan our way out of 'busy-ness' and how to create more white space in our schedules.Show Notes for EP150: What Are You Saying "Yes" To?Enjoy this Podcast?Learning how you can get rid of clutter and live an intentional and purposeful life has never been this simple. EP149: [Post-Holiday] Should to Good
I called today’s episode ‘post-holiday should to good’. The week between Christmas and the New Year can leave me in a bit of a funk/fog. There are things we feel like we should do but, my guest today, Robyn Conley Downs, believes we should turn the should into good. It’s pretty easy to go through your to-do list and start seeing which items you are doing because you feel like you should. So quickly, this season that is supposed to be full of light, joy, and hope, adds up in tasks from various categories. Whether you feel that you should because you used to in the past or because you see someone else doing it, flipping the script to how you want to feel, from should to good, will allow you to reclaim your experience, attention, and energy.Show Notes for EP149: [Post Holiday] Should to GoodEnjoy this Podcast?Learning how you can get rid of clutter and live an intentional and purposeful life has never been this simple. EP147: Have Yourself a Minimalist Christmas with Meg Nordmann
Today I’m talking Christmas minimalism with author, Meg Nordman. Her recent release, Have Yourself a Minimalist Christmas, is a great resource as you navigate the holiday season. We live in a society where we’re bombarded with advertisements and, let’s be honest, our children’s irrational input; it’s hard to be decisive and intentional when it comes to the holiday season. I hope this episode assists you as you simplify your homes, schedules and gift giving this year.Disclaimer: Maybe don't listen to this one with the kiddos - we discuss Santa around the halfway point!Show Notes for EP147: Have Yourself a Minimalist ChristmasEnjoy this Podcast?Learning how you can get rid of clutter and live an intentional and purposeful life has never been this simple.
