This is when there is an attempt to bring the conscious and unconscious into communication and dialogue with each other. The transcendent function requires a shaking up of the conscious attitude, meaning a relativization of the "I" to the mysterious unknown of the unconscious.  My intention in today's podcast is to reimagine the ways a trauma informed practitioner can offer a helping hand; not to grasp, but to aid in the way an individual handles experiences that are perceivably fragmenting and intolerable. My intention is not to particularly offer practical solutions to trauma healing. This holds the unconscious tendency to favor one sided approaches that prioritize resolution of symptoms above all. Rather, my intention is to follow the symptoms; the spontaneous movement of psyche, leaving more space to “save the phenomena of the imaginal psyche” (Hillman, 2013, p. 16). It is through the development and cultivation of an archetypal mode of imagining that uses the metaphorical lens of alchemy that I see the possibility to reconnect with the inherent mythopoetic basis of mind.
