Things get pretty hairy on stage this week, but a lot less scary in the boudoir as the Top 6 settles into a friendly monster energy for hopefully the remainder of the competition. Things are getting goulishly glamorous for this week’s haunted high seas floor show, but the monsters are making even bigger waves in the Cauldron in one of the series’ most chaotic conflicts. Dahli is the only one smooth sailing through this week while Jade finds a key and loses a seat mate in Betty, Saint’s biscuits aren’t rising and neither is she in this competition, Sigourney’s experience with glamour proves to be a double edged sword and Zava zeroes in on a new opponent.  Meanwhile, Hoso is questioning the definition of Glamour, the Boulets are stuck in their helmets, Fangoria is just kind of there and the goose of the season gets washed out to sea. The perennial Monsters of Rock challenge usually leads to more than a few broken guitar strings by the end of the floor show. This season was no exception, though to be fair, things fell apart for Glam Rot long before they got on stage, and the real show was the encore in the Cauldron between Sigourney, Merrie, Jade, and Betty when she could get a word in edgewise. Meanwhile, Dahli finally nabs the win they came here for and leads Zenith to a clear and drama-free victory. Our audio went a bit south for this week’s trip to out west, so apologies all around, but it’s a monster mashup of genres this week as the wild west meets outer space at its spookiest. We have much to say about who perhaps should have won this week, but we also have a lot to say about horse girls and old Vines. And we have a lot to say about that fact that Merrie Cherry has a lot to say. To finish out this year’s Alright Scary, we’re revisiting Scream’s less impressive little sister “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” This movie unfortunately did not age well, and while we’re always excited for late 90’s nostalgia, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s heel-length dress, Elsa’s implacable anger, and the quick clean-up of those crabs were just some of the things we couldn’t get hooked on. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a bright spot in the cast, but we completely forgot about Anne Heche and the football star and fisherman in this movie look like Pilates instructors.  (But Freddie Prinze Jr. in that tank top can haul his crabs into our tugboat any day.) This may be a summer misadventure worth forgetting but it was a fun way to wrap up the spooky season! There’s blood in the water for this week’s 60’s themed vampire beach party, pairing the monsters up as moonbathers with a mouthful. Season 2 standout and Resurrection runner-up Dahli casually strolls back into the competition, but the parent-child reunion with Astrud is short-lived this season when her bikini killer leaves a salty taste in the judges mouth. Bitter Betty is giving Elusive Elizabeth while Koco Caine can’t even with Merrie, though both are saved by the Boulets. Saint is canonized as the winner of this week’s challenge, but Dahli and Hoso were on our beach blanket bingo cards. Meanwhile, Vanessa Hudgens brings, let’s just say, a pizzazz to the judging panel. Season 4 of The Boulet Brothers’ spooky, filthy drag competition kicks things off with a warehouse of horrors, a workroom of shade-slinging and a floor show full of legends. Familiar faces Jade Jolie and Saint keep it congenial, but La Zavaleta and Merrie Cherry make sure Brooklyn is well represented in the boudoir, Sigourney and Betty plan to take on this competition one tit at a time, and Koco is hopefully our narrator this season. Astrud ends up as queen alien of the week, but Hoso has an eye on the prize (and a button sewn into that eye), and Formelda Hyde wears club kid shoes, so you know what that means.
