The Attributes of God | Immutability
This summer, at SWO21, our pastors are teaching through the attributes of God. Every week we will walk through the characteristics of God to better understand His nature.Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God is unchanging. He is immutable. He can’t change in His nature. If He could change then that means He could improve. In contrast, people change all the time in their emotions, decisions, and characteristics. If you’ve been redeemed by Him, God is changing you more into His image every day. His love for you is attached to His character—not yours. You are not consistent. But the Lord is. Let’s pursue the Lord daily and rest in His unchanging nature.Resources:Download teaching notes from Brody's staff training session.James 1:17Malachi 3:6Exodus 3:14Psalm 118:29Jeremiah 31:33John 13:1Psalm 105Genesis 6P.S. No Sanity Stories | From a S.W.A.T. Cop to a Boys Home Founder
Today, Brody sat down with Steve Finn, a long-time friend of Brody and Snowbird. Steve shared his life story and testimony of how the Lord saved him and pushed him to start Chestnut Mountain Ranch. The Lord gave him a Gospel-driven vision for law enforcement and his career as a police officer. There, he experienced the darkness of humanity, yet a person who is rooted in the Gospel will be stable even when dealing with evil.God will equip you for the work He’s calling you to. Steve later started a boys’ home program called Chestnut Mountain Ranch, where boys learn life skills and Gospel truths. CMR has been life-changing for many boys. Listen to be challenged and encouraged. Resources:Ephesians 2Romans 8Chestnut Mountain RanchP.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! What Fear in the Life of a Believer Should Look Like
Fear is all around us. The world is fallen and broken; and we need to combat our fears with prayer and Scripture. Prayer must be a consistent part of our lives. Today Brody discusses how believers can use prayer to combat fear. Unhealthy fears attack us when we’re not seeking the Lord through prayer. The Lord uses prayer to stabilize us with confidence in tough circumstances.Good fear should motivate you to the right kind of action. Prayer lessens our fear in the things of this world and grows our trust in God. Are you feeding yourself with things that grow your faith? Christian, don’t live in fear. What Prayer in the Life of a Believer Should Look Like
Most Christians would admit that their prayer life isn’t what they want it to be. Prayer is a great gift that allows us to communicate with the Almighty God. As a result we should hold a high view of prayer in our lives and communicate with God daily. In this episode, Brody walks through Daniel’s prayer of confession for himself and his people.Daniel shows us a picture of what Biblical confession looks like. He interceded for the sins of his nation, but we have a better intercessor than Daniel. We have Christ. Let’s be people of prayer, confessing who we are, who He is, and petitioning to His sovereign mercy. Resources:Romans 10:9Daniel 9P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! No Sanity Stories | Surviving a Grizzly Attack
In today’s podcast, Brody sits down with Bruce Crocker, who recently worked in the maintenance department here at Snowbird. Bruce shares his testimony of how the Lord used a bear attack in Alaska to draw him and his brother closer to Himself. Even as Bruce suffered 3 broken ribs and a break in his calf and thigh, God’s hand was evident in his life. God uses experiences like this in our lives to bring us closer to Him and make Himself known to us. Listen to hear this story of survival and God’s sovereignty in uncontrollable circumstances. P.S. Proclaim the Gospel Knowing That Only God can Save
Sharing the Gospel can be scary and tough to do. But it’s our responsibility and joy to be faithful to share the hope we have. If we don’t actually trust that it’s able to save souls, then we won’t share. We share the Gospel as both an act of obedience and to make much of Jesus. We need to look for opportunities to share but we can rest in knowing that it’s the Lord who is going to save. We are just the messengers. Live a life that faithfully and consistently brings attention to the Lord. God will use your faithfulness—but not in the timing you think He will. The message that we have is the greatest that's been given. Share out of a love for those around you and be confident that the Lord is working through your obedience.Resources1 Peter 3The Profound Effects of Simple Obedience (episode with Greg Helms)P.S. The Unlawful Trial of Jesus
Happy Resurrection Sunday! The grave is empty. Hell and sin are defeated. Our worldly flesh has been defeated by Jesus’ work at the Cross and power over the grave! Christian, we have so much to be thankful for. The Resurrection of Jesus is what makes the Gospel central to how we work, parent, and combat a secular worldview. From the beginning, in the Garden of Eden, Satan has been offering counterfeit options to the truth. The world system is coming after Christians, but we should not be surprised by this. Just like Jesus promised, the world hates him and they will hate you. We should expect it and trust our Lord in the middle of it.Did Jesus really deserve to die?Luke 22-23 covers the unlawful accusation and trial of Jesus in detail. Read Pilate’s words: “Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, ‘I find no guilt in this man.’” (Luke 23:4)PilateJesus was unjustly punished in the name of justice—for the sake of pleasing crowds and unifying politicians. In reality, the Resurrection proved that Jesus is who He says He is. Innocent God died in the place of wicked man. Christ Jesus became the substitution and atonement for our sin. This is the Gospel! Jesus stood in our place—the sinless and spotless Lamb of God.The world gradually inches towards alliance and compliance with the work of Satan in every generation. The world will constantly push back against what Jesus is doing in one way or another. The Jews wanted Jesus silenced, they wanted Him dead and Pilate inched towards compliance. Ultimately, they won Pilate over.Caiaphas was on trial. The crowd was on trial. Our sin was on trial.Jesus is in command.Jesus paid the price and conquered sin by the power of his holiness. So, today we celebrate. He conquered sin so that we won’t have to face the same punishment. He died in our place so that we are able to stand righteous before a holy God—made righteous based on the work and merit of Jesus. Romans 10 promises that we have freedom because of Him. Bask in the glory of what Jesus has done. Look forward to an eternity where justice rules and reigns.Peace, mercy, hope, and grace will prevail.ResourcesLuke 22Luke 23Mark 14:59Romans 10On The Physical Death of Jesus Christ by William Edwards, MDP.S.
