Jiu-Jitsu is Built on Generosity

You ever escaped a submission and thought, they let me get out of that? Perhaps it was your immense skill or was it an act of generosity by your training partner? In BJJ and all parts of life acts of kindness allow others to learn, survive and grow as a result of showing empathy to others. Now this might sound strange in an art of breaking ligaments and choking each other unconscious but recently there have been some acts of generosity that need to be noted. Lachlan Giles has decided to award the remaining money he had from an anonymous donor and give it equally to all Australian athletes who qualified for the ADCC. This amounts to approximately $5.5k which might not sound like much but will go a long way to help these people chase their Jiu-Jitsu dreams. This discussion is about giving people a chance, an opportunity to live to fight another day as apposed to breaking their ligaments. Letting someone off lightly where you could potentially punish them so they have a chance to grow and develop and this helps move the culture forward.Get Stronger & More Flexible for BJJ  with the Bulletproof For BJJ App- Start your 7 Day FREE Trial:  https://bulletproofforbjj.com/registerStay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game! Do you feel lost at BJJ? Feel like you might want to quit? You need a BJJ Buddy! The fact that Jiu-Jitsu does not have a proper Buddy System is a problem that is leaving beginners stranded. JT recently experienced getting paired up with an experienced guy to show him the ropes. This totally changed how he felt in an unfamiliar setting. Having someone who is your go to person to help you when you get stuck can be a life saver. One of the hardest things when getting started in BJJ is simply not not knowing what to do in certain situations whether thats a technique or social rule you have no idea about. If the gym you train at doesn't have a buddy system you may be the one who could suggest it and bring about the change changes the future of another new white belt. If your Jiu-Jitsu academy does have a buddy system let us know in the comments.Get Stronger & More Flexible for BJJ  with the Bulletproof For BJJ App- Start your 7 Day FREE Trial:  https://bulletproofforbjj.com/registerStay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game! How Much BJJ Should You Train To Get Better?

How much BJJ should you train every week? Your coach says Everyday. The Pro guys train twice a day! But how much is right for you? JT likes to take things to the extreme and Joey has a more moderate approach and through their experience helping thousands of BJJ folks get stronger, more flexible and get healthy- they have discovered the sweet spot. Now winning in terms of how much you train looks different depending on your Jiu-Jitsu goals: If you are a top competitor, an experienced  hobbyist or a frothy white belt. The boys discuss what each goal might require and some approaches you can take to ensure you don't crash and burn. More does not always equal better. There can be some diminishing returns that come from chasing the BJJ dragon, taking something beautiful and turning it into a grind which can start to eat away at other parts of your life.Trial and Error is huge part of learning and failing in BJJ so working out what your body and soul can tolerate is an important part of knowing yourself. But when you push the limits - You often find them! Sometimes those results can be painful and occasionally embarrassing. How much do you train BJJ every week, let us know in the comments?Get all the juicy details on everything BJJ - Tap,Nap and Snap! Are You Getting Good BJJ Advice?

Do you ask for advice from higher belts at your Academy? Maybe your friends give you advice that seems a little questionable. Either way BJJ advice is not hard to come by but how do you know what's good info and what is fake news? JT & Joey have given and received a truck load of advice over the years and not all of it was helpful. To save you time there are some ways that you can cut through the BS and save yourself years of wasted time. When you are not sure if the advice you are getting is solid there are some easy things you can do to work it out. You need to get 2nd and 3rd opinions on the same question to see if there is a pattern between them. Also asking "Why do you say this...?" Getting an understanding of why your Advisor is telling you this will give context that can help inform whether or not the advice is relevant. Another key take-away from this discussion is understanding the person you are getting the advice from- What is their Hammer? What is their strength and are they only speaking from their place of capability which is not necessarily going to work for you with your specific skill set or body type. Lots of gems in this one- let us know the best BJJ advice you have received in the comments.Get Stronger & More Flexible for BJJ with the Bulletproof For BJJ App- Start your 7 Day FREE Trial:  https://bulletproofforbjj.com/registerStay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game!
