The day will come when fire will consume a third of the earth. I see two possibilities for fire: one view is a solar proton eject event strong enough to over power the earth magnetic field that repels the solar winds. The second view is an increase in solar radiation cause severe drought leading to derbies burning from dryness. Many will think judgment has arrived. During the dust storms of the 1940s many thought the judgment of God was poured out upon them as they saw dust walls a mile to two miles high. The storms could sweep across the country. The prairie sod had been busted and the system seemed to have an energy of its own as the thermal currents began to stir up dust.

Tampa Bay Desalination Plant 1. The Tampa Florida seawater desalination facility produces 25 million gallons of water per day. 2. The plant has 15 miles of pipes to transport the water providing water for 1.8 million people 3. Carlsbad Desalination Project Fact: 1. I.W technologies is converting sea water to fresh water in Carlsbad. The $1 million demonstration project will produce 35,000 gallons of water a day. The larger plant is existed to provide San Diego with 50 million gallons of water a day. 2. The plant will cost $230 million and produce enough fresh water to meet the annual needs of 400,000 people. The San Diego county water authority will spent $42 million for pipeline and pumping stations. 3. Every year, 10 percent of the total 600,000 square feet of reverse osmosis membranes will be changed out. 4. The cost will be $909 per acre foot of water. Potential exists for a $250 per acre-foot subsidy from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California 5. 100 million gallons of seawater would be pumped into the plant every day (Reference Link) Los Angels Desalination projects Fact: 1. The Los Angels Department of Water and Power is the largest municipal utility in the US serving four million residents. 2. A new direct connection to the California aqueduct is being explored increasing use of recycled water. 3. A second possibility is the creation of a desalination plant using salt water from the Pacific Ocean at Playa del Rey. In 2010, active desalination plants were one located at Diablo Canyon owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Co using reverse osmosis. Other active sites include Gaviota, Moss Landing, Nicholas Island, and Monterey Bay. (Reference Link) 4. The LADWP provided more than 200 billion US gallons (760 billion liters) of water in 2003, pumping it through 7,226 miles (11,629 km) of pipe. 48% of the water came from the Sierra Nevada mountains via the Los Angles Aqueduct, 41% came from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, 11% was from local groundwater, and % came from recycled water (Reference Link)

The onboard electrolysis unit providing the hydrogen would use 1% of the electrical output. 6. The fact that most of the world's energy resources are controlled by countries with command economies is a result of two factors First, command economies use almost all of their resources, so they have little to spare for export Second, they prefer to use the resources they have to support their own people, not to support people in other countries This is just another demonstration of the old saying, "The best way to help the poor is to help yourself " However, this situation is not a permanent one When the command economies are no longer able to control their people, they will no longer be able to control their resources That is when their resources will become available to other countries which have a higher standard of living than the command economies It is also possible that the command economies will use their resources for their own benefit WHY DO THE SOVIET UNION AND CHINA CONTROL SO MUCH OIL? The fact that the Soviet Union and China control so much of the world's oil is a result of the same factor which makes it possible for them to control the world's other resources The Soviet Union and China have large populations They need a lot of energy resources to support their people They also have a very low standard of living This makes it possible for them to get their resources at prices which are very low compared to the cost of producing them in other countries " HOW DOES THE WORLD'S ENERGY PROBLEMS RELATE TO THE WORLD'S MANPOWER PROBLEMS? The world's energy problems is one of the reasons why we have a world's manpower problems The world's population has doubled in the last 40 years It is expected to double again in the next 40 years As a result, the world's standard of living is falling The amount of energy required per person has been increasing steadily The current world's population uses the energy equivalent of one steam locomotive per person In the next 40 years, when the world's population is expected to double, the number of people in the world will use the energy equivalent of two steam locomotives per person It is very unlikely that we will find the energy resources to support that many people at that standard of living

Stock prices are based on the beliefs of the market and, in turn, affect the beliefs of the market If the market believes that a stock is overpriced, then the price will decline until such beliefs are no longer expressed Such beliefs are based on the fundamentals and the perceptions of investors The fundamentals are the facts about a business and its prospects that are publicly available The perceptions are the opinions of investors about the facts, about the current economic environment and about what will happen next This perception is often influenced by the price of the security For example, if the price of a stock is rising, then more investors will tend to believe that the fundamentals are good This will cause the price to continue to rise The Market€™s Beliefs The market€™s belief about a security may be based on the fundamentals or on the perceptions of the investors The following two examples illustrate how these beliefs affect stock prices Example 1: Demand for a Product Increases Suppose that one of your companies has invented a new product that is a substitute for an existing product The new product is superior in every way to the existing product and will capture most of the market Now you must decide what to do with the existing product You could discontinue it, but the market for it is still quite large, and there is no reason to believe that it will be declining soon Instead, you decide to sell the product at a lower price than the new product, even though it is identical to the new product You will continue to sell the existing product until you have captured most of the market, after which you will discontinue it The new product will have the following effects on the market: (1) it will cause the demand for the existing product to fall sharply, (2) the price of the existing product will decline sharply and (3) the demand for the new product will rise sharply The demand for the new product will rise sharply because it is superior to the existing product The price of the new product will also rise because of the demand for it

What you earn in retirement is generally based on what you earn while you work If you earn more, you get more in retirement If you earn less, you get less So if you earn more, it follows that you have more in retirement The reality is more complex though This is because life expectancy and inflation both grow over time This means that pensions will be less generous than expected It also means that the cost of pensions to the state or taxpayers will grow The reason for this is simple The reason for this is simple Life expectancy has grown faster than the pension system has increased benefits When the state pension was introduced in the 1940s, the average life expectancy was 65 for men and 71 for women This meant that the population was relatively young and the state pension was designed to be paid for from current tax receipts Today, life expectancy has grown to 79 for men and 83 for women This means that the pension system will have to pay out more than it did when the original assumptions were made This means higher costs and lower benefits So it follows that the cost of the state pension will grow faster than the rate of economic growth Government finances are thus likely to struggle to keep up The failure of the pensions system to deliver on their promises will be stark States owed a total of $1.25 trillion in unfunded pension benefits in fiscal 2019, the final year before the pandemic. People are living longer and drawing on their pension for greater lengths of time. Pew projections in September 2021 indicated that pension debt had decreased below $1 trillion by the end of fiscal 2021, and state pension plans reached the highest-funded level since the Great Recession. Unfunded pension liabilities as a share of 50-state personal income increased sharply during the Great Recession and kept growing until it peaked at 8.4% in fiscal 2016. That’s because many states deferred contributions to pension systems during the downturn and then made insufficient payments to keep unfunded liabilities from rising. Growth was also partially driven by lower-than-expected investment returns, and in some cases, expanded but unfinanced benefits.
