Scott Abel: Correcting the North American Diet Mentality
Episode 22: "Just because you have a hot body, doesn't mean you have a hot life." Scott has counseled thousands of women on overcoming eating disorders, body image troubles and self-esteem issues. Scott believes that a total mind AND body approach is the key to transforming not just your physical appearance but your overall mental and emotional health as well. With this approach he has enabled his clients to transform not just their bodies but their LIVES with his inside out approach rather than the conventional outside-in approach that is predominantly used by the diet and fitness industry. I really resonate with Scott because he has been teaching a message that I’ve only just started preaching this year and that is: fitness does not necessarily mean leanness. Though Scott knows how to accomplish both of these goals, he is direct in his approach and always puts health first. He doesn’t cultivate imaginary expectations in his clients, but instead he gives them the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in being the best version of themselves. Here's what we discussed in this episode: Why being a health coach is just as much about the mental side as it is about the physical side Why it's a huge red flag when a coach tries to make your health and nutrition complicated. It should be simple, dangit! Jordan Younger: Finding Balance and Food Freedom after Veganism
Episode 20: Jordan Younger is a 23-year-old health and lifestyle blogger living in Los Angeles. When she isn't writing about health on The Balanced Blonde, you'll find her on the yoga mat, in the kitchen, hiking the Malibu canyons and overseeing her clothing line, TBV Apparel. She is currently working on a book and an app that are also focused on the principles of leading a balanced, healthy lifestyle. I was really wanting to talk with Jordan after hearing about her on Good Morning America when she left her vegan lifestyle to pursue a diet that was more tailored to her needs. She received such harsh backlash from some of her followers, that I couldn't even imagine how tough that transition might have been. It's hard enough to make life-changing decisions on your own, but it's so much more tough when you're in the spotlight and people expect certain things from you. I'm really excited to release this episode because I think EVERYBODY will learn something that can be applied to their own life and experiences. Jordan is so incredibly open and honest, that I think she'll say many things that will stick with you. Her story is not one that you want to miss. Here's what we discuss in this episode: Why Jordan originally started veganism and how being labeled started to control mindset towards food, as well as her life The "aha" moments she experienced that really opened up her eyes to her anxieties about non-vegan foods, weight gain and animal ethics How the beliefs we create in our head overtime lead to invisible, counterfeit consequences Jordan's number one tip for those seeking recovery The importance of yoga for mind body awareness Follow Jordan on all her great social media channels: http://www.thebalancedblonde.com/ Instagram Twitter Facebook Pinterest I also had the utmost pleasure to be on her blog for a segment she's been doing called the Recovery Series. You can read that interview I did with her here: http://www.theblondevegan.com/2014/09/19/recovery-series-5-madelyn-moon/ I really opened up about my own recovery for this interview, so I hope you enjoy learning a little more about my own food freedom process. Jimmy Moore: Keto Clarity, Living Low Carb and Facing Emotional Baggage
EPISODE 19: In January 2004, Jimmy Moore made a decision to get rid of the weight that was literally killing him. At 32 years of age and 410 pounds, the time had come for a radical change of lifestyle. A year later, he had shed 180 pounds, shrunk his waist by 20 inches, and dropped his shirt size from 5XL to XL. Since then, Jimmy has continued to shed weight and improve his health using a hight fat, low carbohydrate, Paleo diet. Jimmy Moore is the host of one of the highest ranked health podcasts, the Livin La Vida Low Carb Show, and the author of both Cholesterol Clarity and more recently, Keto Clarity. Jimmy managed to release both of these two books in under a year, and continues to surprise his friends, family and followers with his dedication to helping others. Jimmy has been one of my biggest supporters for the past two years. I would have had this interview with him LONG ago, but I wanted to get a little more comfortable with podcasting before I talked with him on my show to ensure that it was the best episode possible :) I can confidently say, I don't think we will disappoint. Here's a brief overview of what we discuss in this episode: Growing up with "crappy carbage" and how it led Jimmy to his discouraging 410 lb weight Dealing with your emotional baggage first, and then working on your relationship with food next An in-depth explanation on cholesterol & which foods are best/worst to eat for optimal levels The many benefits of ketosis and having a very high fat diet Why low carb is not a high protein diet (this is a crucial component of ketosis) The importance of loving yourself, especially if you're putting yourself out in the open like so many of us Links mentioned in this episode: Jimmy Moore and Dr. John McDougall CHIPMUNK version!
