Layla Martin: Awakening More Pleasure & Releasing Sexual Shame
Episode 62: Layla Martin is a next-generation sexuality and female orgasm expert. Her work has been featured in the Huffington Post, Refinery 29 and Women's Health Magazine. She uses simple, yet powerful tools to explode your levels of pleasure and self-love in the bedroom. You can get her book, "Wild Woman in the Bedroom: Break through of insecurities and have all the pleasure you deserve" as a gift on her website, www.LaylaMartin.com "There's a difference between sex that just has an orgasm at the end of it, and sex where you feel vulnerable and seen and there's a soul-to-soul connection. That's what everybody is craving deep down inside, even men even though we can get this idea they don't crave that, they are really fed by that too. And one of the ways to get to that level of depth is to be truly intimate during sex which means to feel what you're feeling and express what's really going on inside and that, whether you have an orgasm or not, you feel met on a level that matters." -Layla Martin Here's what we talk about today: My Huffington Post Article (read HERE) How Layla originally became so passionate and fascinated with holistic sexuality The most ridiculous thing she did in Asia when first studying pleasure and sex How to release shame in your female parts (and where it usually shows up!) A basic "breathing" exercise Layla recommends Rebuilding libido The difference in judgement towards both genders in our culture The Jade egg The difference between the egg and kegels The Dark Side of Vibrators (video) The art of pre-gaming before sex Sex on the Brain Aphrodisiacs that will naturally rock your love life (video) Connect with Layla: Website Facebook YouTube Become a patron of the show by contributing as little as $1 per podcast and get a mention on my show HERE! Camille DePutter: Healing Your Heart Through Storytelling
Episode 60: Camille DePutter has always been a storyteller. Whether it was writing the editors of Archie Comics to correct their grammar, or developing key messages to convince her parents to let her have more candy, at a very young age she learned the importance of telling a story, and telling it well. She is part poet and part pragmatist. She’s worked as a communications expert in marketing, advertising, public relations, and in-house, and through the years she has helped business leaders gain followings and build customer bonds with authentic, articulate, artful communication. She has also learned first-hand the power of telling one’s own story: of sharing our most significant, transformative moments, or capturing the memories and experiences of our loved ones. These are the stories that make us who we are – but sometimes we need help telling them. When she says she writes with heart, she means that literally. She was born with a heart condition. For about thirty years she tried to hide the story of her own heart. Today it is her signature story: a defining experience that she uses to show herself to the world, and help others do the same. Watch the video of this story HERE. Here's what we talk about in today's episode: Camille's heart condition causing shame growing up How Camille created a passion out of storytelling and why she helps others do the same How readiness is an important factor for exploring your past and future story The different forms of storytelling Moving on from identifying with labels that have been holding you down, but also being able to open the doors to other opportunities you never thought were in the cards for you The power of helping others now even if you're still struggling (especially if you're still struggling) How the world needs more people that aren't afraid to be honest Noticing the language that goes on in your head towards other people not meeting expectations An amazing resource Camille wants you to take advantage of! 6 Things I Want You to Know About Orthorexia
Episode 58: There's a lot of confusion about orthorexia, yet it's an eating disorder that's rapidly on the rise. It scares me how little most people understand about this disorder, so I've created this podcast to bring enlightenment to the topic. My goal is to make this episode a resource for coaches, clients, parents, friends, family members and people simply interested in learning more about orthorexia. I hope that if you think you might be suffering from orthorexia, this show will bring some relief and comfort, knowing full well that you are not alone, but will also encourage you to seek help from a medical provider, doctor, coach or therapist. If you're a parent, I hope that this podcast will help you understand what your child may be going through so that you can speak to them in a way that helps their recovery process. Without further ado, here are 6 things I want you to know about orthorexia (plus a super cool quiz to know if you are experiencing disordered eating patterns). What I discuss in today's show: My MindBodyGreen article I Struggled With Orthorexia Every Day for 7 Years. Here's What it's Like. How you can support the podcast by donating $1/episode (click here to see rewards) My Orthorexia Quiz (yes to one or more of these does not mean you officially have orthorexia) Can you eat food without weighing or measuring it first? Do you log all of your food into a calorie counting app because you HAVE to if you want to eat something? Do you get anxiety when somebody else cooks your food? Do you read nutrition articles obsessively? Do you have other obsessive behaviors around your body, such as exercise or ritualistic beauty routines? Do you have guidelines for what’s considered a “real” workout or a “healthy” meal plan? Do you have a meal plan? Do you feel shame and guilt when you get off said meal plan? Do you think about food and possibly exercise all day long? Do you have to earn your food? Are you afraid of relationships because they may distract you from your food? Do you have a good day if you ate good, and a bad day if you ate bad? Do you have a list of good and bad foods? Do you try to make up for unexpected calories by spending more time at the gym? Do you think carbs are better than fat, or vise versa? Do you crave to see food as food instead of a dictator of your mood? 6 things I want you to know about orthorexia...(directly from the article I wrote HERE) It’s about a desire to feel safe It’s not a choice It’s not always visible (you may be admiring somebody’s disorder and further influencing it) Commentary often does more harm than good It doesn’t just go away It often breeds other obsessions Get more insight by clicking here: maddymoon.com/bf [Tweet "Suffer from disordered eating? Kjerstin Gruys: A Year Without Mirrors
Episode 54: In the midst of planning a wedding, Kjerstin Gruys discovered she was falling prey into bridal societal pressures and decided to go against the grain by not looking at her body in a mirror for a full year. She compiles her experiences in her book Mirror, Mirror Off The Wall. Outside of her incredible book, Kjerstin's research broadly explores the relationship between physical appearance and social inequality, with specialized expertise in labor market inequality, sociology of culture/cultural sociology, and how body size, in particular, intersects with other markers of difference. Prior to earning her PhD, Kjerstin worked as a merchandiser in the corporate offices of two multi-national fashion firms. She is currently developing a book manuscript, tentatively titled:True to Size?: A Social History of Clothing Size Standards in the U.S. Fashion Industry. I read Kjerstin's book earlier this year after glancing at it on my "to read" list for at least a year or two. I finally bought myself a copy, and after reading the book in two days, I wanted to knock myself over the head for not reading it sooner. This is a MUST READ book, just like this is a MUST LISTEN interview. Here's what we talked about today: How and why Kjerstin came up with her "year without mirrors" project Issues with certain bridal traditions still carried on today Her first week without mirrors and reflective surfaces Training yourself to feel more beautiful vs. putting less emphasis on the importance of feeling beautiful (externally and aesthetically) Kjerstin's biggest challenge during her year without mirrors Her relationship with the scale Social media, filters, photoshop, and being a part of the solution Kjerstin's feelings of desire, romance and pleasure during the experiment Healthier uses of the mirror for our body image Connect with Kjerstin: Website Buy Mirror, Mirror Off the Wall Facebook Twitter [Tweet "Ever wondered what it would be like to go an entire year without mirrors?
