Attached: Finding Love With Your Adult Attachment Style

Episode 150: One of the biggest epiphanies I've had in the dating world recently is that many of us have different attachment styles. Sometimes the reason why it doesn't work out with another person is both on a biological and an emotional level. We are made differently and we have different needs. If you've often felt "needy" in relationships, you need to hear this. If you've often felt distant in relationships, you need to hear this. If you've fallen prey to believing that you must avoid, at all costs, becoming "attached" or "dependent" on your partner, then you need to hear this. A misconception going around right now in the self-help world is that the only right way to be in a relationship is when it involves two self-sufficient, independent people coming together in mutual respect. It's said that you must never rely on another person to fill your needs, and you must become whatever it is that you would want from a partner. If you've found yourself believing this, I think you're going to enjoy a realistic breath of fresh air. On a biological stand-point, this belief is unrealistic because it is impossible. Dependency in a relationship is not optional. Enjoy listening in, and feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions or insight! Get the book Attached HERE The different attachment styles Secure Anxious Avoidance How happiness comes from within and not from your partner, but your relationship with your partner certainly contributes to that level of happiness Listen to THIS previous episode I had with David Finch to learn more about finding happiness outside of just your relations Why dependency in a relationship isn't a bad thing (it gets a bad rep in the self-help world, and that just ain't right!) An in-depth review of what activates each attachment style Why "no roller coaster, no passion" isn't true- passion in a relationship comes from nourishing, loving security Compatibility of the different attachment styles (anxious with avoidant, secure with anxious, etc) Why there are many "avoidants" in the dating pool MANY people out there can make you happy- not just one person How to undo activated/deactivated attachment styles through effective communication Read THIS blog post on 10 Things to Do If You're Going Through a Breakup Connect with Maddy: Facebook Twitter Instagram Mind Body Musings Podcast Coaching [Tweet "Which adult attachment style are you? Harmonizing the Feminine and the Masculine

Episode 148: The Feminine and the Masculine energies contribute to forming every single relationship you have in your life, especially the one you have with yourself. For the longest time, my "masculine-minded" tendencies contributed to my development of self-destructive behaviors, motivated by fear and the need for control. I was so addicted to the pursuit of control and perfectionism, that I thrived off of feeling as disengaged from my Feminine as possible, and as "into" my own version of Masculinity as I could be. I tried to act tough, strong, disciplined and structured because I feared the sensitive softness that my heart yearned for. You may be wondering, what qualities are Masculine and which ones are Feminine? How does your unique balance of the two energies contribute to the type of romantic relationships you develop? How can an "imbalance" affect your mindset, energy and love life? What does it mean to live out femininity through fear and masculinity through insecurity? What does water and fire have to do with the harmony between Feminine and Masculine? In this episode, I'm going to cover EVERYTHING about harmonizing these two energies and how to create romantic relationships that will truly thrive. Get ready, because it's a good one! Feel the Shit to Feel the Shift

Episode 146: What does it mean to actually feel the shit in life? How do you accept what’s currently happening, feel what you’re feeling, and still remain hopeful? How do you not run away or numb out when it’s so accessible? I understand what it’s like to try to push past an emotion and hurry on up to the other side. I also know the severe consequences that will occur if you don’t take the time to process and feel the heaviness of the moment. The truth is, when you avoid feeling what needs to be felt, that emotion goes “downstairs” to lift weights. It gets bigger. Heavier. Stronger. The alternative? To actually feel the emotion. The key here is feeling the emotion but not becoming it. There is a huge difference in being a human being who feels sadness versus being the sadness. In this episode of Mind Body Musings, I’m going to teach you how to feel the shit in order to feel the shift. Show notes: Looking for more focus, energy and stamina? Why You Should Bring Your Shadow Self into the Light // Q&A

Episode 144: I have a Darker Self. A Shadow Self. I have a side that’s less attractive. A side that’s not socially acceptable. This side, well, she’s ashamed a lot of the time. She’s a little nervous to be seen. She hides in secrecy, and only a few people have seen her. Even then, I spend a lot of time apologizing for her appearance. This side of myself is stubborn. She makes situations that could be very easy, quite difficult. She bottles things up. She can be rude. She takes awhile to forgive when there are miscommunications that could just as easily be laughed at. These qualities about myself are not fun. I don’t particularly like them. But even though I don’t like them, I have learned to be compassionate towards them. I understand that I have this side for a reason...a very specific and powerful reason. What do you think the world would be like if we all allowed our Shadow selves to come out fully and express themselves when they needed to? How do you think people would feel if their hearts where so open that they unapologetically allowed all of themselves to be known and even seen? If you have a side of yourself that you're not particularly fond of, maybe even a little embarrassed about, get ready for this juicy episode. Why You Are Given More Than You Can Handle // Q&A

Episode 142: Every once in awhile, many of us have “one of those days” where it seems like nothing is going according to plan. You’re late to a party, dinner won’t be on time, the twins’ teacher wants you to come in for a teacher-parent conference, there’s finger paint on your white pants and coffee is dripping off the steering wheel of your new car. Other times, you aren’t dealing with a hundred little things going on…you’re dealing with one or two really big things. Your dad has cancer. You have cancer. Your pet dog just passed away. You’re in a massive amount of debt. Your child is depressed. Your mom has Alzheimer’s. You’re going through a divorce. Whatever the level of “drowning” you feel is going on in your life, I feel for you. I assume that at some point in your life, if not now, you’ve felt the sensation of carrying more weight on your shoulders than you can handle. In my own life, I’ve heard people tell me, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” Do you feel that way? Do you feel that you’ve been given the precise amount that you can handle? Chances are, you’re going to say no. And I don’t believe you’re saying no simply because you’re the person being directly affected by the trauma or chaos…I think you’re going to say no because it’s true: you were not given what you could handle. You were given more than you could handle. I don’t believe God gives us what we can handle. I believe we are given much more than what we, by ourselves, can handle; we are given an amount that only God can handle. In this podcast I'm going to give you 3 specific reasons why we are given more than we can handle, plus I'll give you a bonus Q&A portion where I'll answer some of your recent questions!
