In the U.K. elections, we saw the Tories, the conservative party, lose humiliatingly but expectedly after 14 years in power, putting the British Labor Party at the helm of a country in crisis. The election was far less of a vote of confidence in the Labor Party and its leader, Keir Starmer than it was a vote against the Tories - a throw-the-bums-out anti-incumbency mood. In fact, this was the lowest turnout election in Britain in more than a century. We also saw a landslide election of Jeremy Corbyn as an independent Left candidate, after Starmer’s wing of the Labor Party undemocratically blocked him from running as a Labor candidate. Corbyn’s position against the Israeli state’s genocidal war on Gaza undoubtedly played a role in his decisive win. What should workers conclude from the Tories’ loss and Corbyn’s victory?
