On Strike! Seattle Democrats' SHAMEFUL Attack on historic minimum wage victory - Kshama Sawant's Call to Action
WATCH - socialist & former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant WARNS Seattle Democrats to stop their planned, shameful attack on the historic minimum wage victory won by her office and the 15 NOW movement ten years ago, at a press conference yesterday alongside workers, socialists, and union members. Working people everywhere have a stake in defending Seattle’s minimum wage, which is the highest of any major city in the country at nearly $20/hour, thanks to the 15 NOW movement’s historic victory in 2014 – a victory which set off a wave of similar laws being passed around the country, and even led to putting the $15 an hour demand center stage in the 2016 presidential election. An attack on Seattle’s historic minimum wage will be a green light for big business to go on the offensive against workers in other cities, and double down on their attacks in Seattle. We need to fight back! JOIN OUR RALLY THIS SUNDAY, August 4th at 1PM outside Seattle city hall, to let the Democrats know we won’t back down in the face of this shameful attack! Invite your coworkers and your union or organization if you’re in one, and if you’re not in Seattle you can tune in via livestream! RSVP here: https://www.workersstrikeback.org/eve... SIGN THE PETITION to demand that Seattle Democrats withdraw their legislation to roll back the city’s minimum wage and oppose ALL attacks on the $15/hour minimum wage victory: https://www.workersstrikeback.org/han... And SEND AN EMAIL NOW to Seattle City Council demanding that they withdraw this shameful legislation and apologize to working people: https://mailchi.mp/workersstrikeback/... This attack by the all-Democrat Seattle City Council, led by District 3 Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth, would create a permanent lower-tier minimum wage for well over 200,000 workers who are set to receive a nearly $3/hour wage increase on January 1. In addition to creating a permanent two-tier wage system and denying raises to hundreds of thousands of workers, the Democrats’ bill would actually threaten to lower wages by $1/hour for workers who receive commissions or piece-rate pay. This is a blatant attack on Seattle’s working people – that’s why On Strike and Workers Strike Back are calling on workers everywhere to help defend this victory. SEND AN EMAIL NOW to Seattle City Council demanding that they withdraw this shameful legislation and apologize to working people: https://mailchi.mp/workersstrikeback/... And BECOME A MEMBER of Workers Strike Back! Help us build a national movement that can defend our victories and fight for more, including a national $25/hour minimum wage.
