Episode 48 - GenX Speaks Series: Author Jaime Townzen

In this episode we welcome author and artist Jaime Townzen.  Jaime shares about her upbringing in Southern California, that included her parent’s divorce and subsequent remarriages that resulted in her babysitters becoming her step-sisters.  Jaime reveals how the role of being a high achiever both aided her and at times sabotaged her as the weight of people’s expectations continued to pile on throughout most of her life.  We touch on typical GenX topics that include lack of parental support when it came to extracurriculars as well as handling the college application process on our own.  We learn about Jaime’s time at UCLA where she briefly considered pre-med before realizing the importance of pursuing her true passion of writing.  A transfer to University of Redlands led to meeting her future husband as well as an amazing experience in Austria studying abroad.  A move to Sacramento resulted in a stint teaching 4th grade, that included navigating the unique experience of being a teacher on 9/11.  Shortly after marrying her husband, they moved to Pasadena where Jaime found a career in nonprofit marketing and advertising.  Eventually she became a mother to two beautiful girls while at the same time unknowingly beginning a long journey of caretaking, loss and grief.  The shutdown of the world in 2020 due to Covid offered a form of respite for Jaime where she was able to create a space for herself to use watercolor as a form of self-preservation and prioritization.  Through her art, her creativity sparked, bloomed and grew to a place where her talent for writing could be honored.  From that, her coming of age novel “Absorbed” was born.  Set in the 90s, “Absorbed” promises to resonate with GenX and Millennials alike, but also with their children as well.  Touching on such topics as consent and women’s reproductive rights intertwined with the teenage experience, “Absorbed” is sure to be a bridge between generations.  Jaime also shares sage advice on setting boundaries as a form of self-care, as well as the importance of integrating some form of creativity into your daily life every single day.  We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Jaime and were enthralled not only with her story, but her amazing resilience and strength combined with immense creative wisdom.  We encourage our readers to check out her book “Absorbed” and stop by her website to peruse her artwork.  We look forward to having Jaime return to the studio when her next novel is released!Check Out Jaime at:Web Site:  https://jaimetownzen.comShop:  https://jaimetownzen.com/shop/https://www.tiktok.com/@jaimegetscreative/  https://www.instagram.com/jaimegetscreative/  https://youtube.com/@jaimetownzen/  https://www.facebook.com/jaime.townzen/  Check Us Out at:https://genxadultingpodcast.com#author #writer #artist #watercolor #trauma #ucla #universityofredlands #college #loss #grief #caretaking #boundaries #selfcare #divorce #marriage #mother #mom #teacher #911 #highachiever #genx #millennials #90s #music #consent #reproductiverights #art #parenting #creativity #journaling #podcast #interview #over50 #over40Check us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 47 - The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

In this episode, we discuss the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025 at 12:23pm MT on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.  We touch on Charlie’s beginnings when he co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 at the age of 18.  We reflect on the access to healthy discourse on college campuses and how it has changed since we attended college in the late 1980s - early 90s.  We discuss how Charlie’s art of debate on college campuses simply started with a folding table, a chair and a sign that read “Prove Me Wrong”.  We observe how the media has covered the death of Charlie Kirk fairly overall, with Brian discussing the assumed motivation behind their approach.  Charlie Kirk gained power through the use of words, encouraging the youth of America to debate him on any topic.  Literally, Charlie debated any topic someone brought him, even something as simple as “pancakes or waffles?”.  He would encourage those who disagreed with him to come to the front of the crowd to present their topic or question to debate.  Through this open discourse, Charlie’s influence on the youth of America, and even the world, grew larger than many people realize.  Through communication, Charlie platformed his “opponents”, while simultaneously creating a space for his young supporters to connect and feel accepted.  Nicole reads Charlie’s quote on empathy and shares her own perspective on the subject.  She also reads one of his quotes discussing the Second Amendment, as well as a back and forth with an attendee regarding homosexuality and conservatism.   We discuss Charlie’s outlook on diversity and unity, and touch on the murder of Iryna Zarutska.  Charlie had an exceptionally strong Christian faith and there was no question that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.  This faith guided him in almost everything he did, and was certainly a support system as he created dialogue with everyone, from Only Fans girls to President Trump.  He was a bridge between the right and left of the youth, bringing them together to use their voices, even if they were coming from opposite points of view.  You don’t have to agree with everything Charlie discussed or believed in order to respect his phenomenal talent to debate anything and everything with anyone.  The true tragedy of all of this is that he left behind his beautiful wife and two young children.  Charlie certainly lived more life in his short 31 years than most people live in a lifetime, and we think it’s safe to assume his impact on the world is nowhere near complete.Learn More About Charlie Kirk Here:https://tpusa.com/Check Us Out Here:https://genxadultingpodcast.com/#charliekirk #charlie #turningpointusa #turningpoint #republican #liberal #independent #left #right #moderate #debate #talk #podcast #college #collegecampus #youth #america #media #millennials #millennial #genz #politics #christian #jesus #jesuschrist #christianityCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 46 - Overdevelopment and the SAVE BOCA Movement

In this episode we discuss a local issue that is ongoing in our town of Boca Raton, Florida.  The Save Boca campaign was formed in response to our local government’s plan to put 31 acres of public land into the hands of developers.  Within those 31 acres is a 17 acre park called “Memorial Park” and often referred to as “War Memorial”, that was named in 1947 two years after the end of World War II, to honor those who served and perished.  The park is centrally located in the downtown area of east Boca Raton, and has been a hub of activity since its inception.  For decades the citizens of Boca Raton have enjoyed the 10 clay tennis courts, skatepark, softball and baseball fields, shuffleboard courts, basketball court, playground and green open spaces that the park offers.  Boca Raton’s historic Children’s Museum also sits on the property, where the second oldest building in Boca Raton can be found.  The Boca Raton Community Center and City Hall also reside within the park.  The park is home to six cherished old growth Banyan trees that are loved by the community.  The project was originally named “Government Campus Redevelopment”, a fairly misleading title that offered no clues as to what the local government and developers agreed on as it pertained to development of the public land.  In place of what has been described here, the new plan is a concrete jungle that includes a hotel that is near schools, low income housing, cafes, stores, restaurants and additional commercial leasing space.  There has been talk of moving two of the six Banyan trees, something that is very distressing to the people of Boca Raton, as well as very little regard to what Memorial Park represents to the town and to all veterans.  The Save Boca movement has been tremendous getting the word out to citizens and instrumental in making our voices heard.  We also touch on overdevelopment as a whole all across America, and how what we are currently facing may resonate with many listeners who have witnessed the cherished nostalgic sections of their beloved towns be replaced with shiny, new and uncomfortable structures that have had the effect of completely changing the character and charm of their area.  This is an ongoing issue that will see many city council meetings ahead attended by hundreds, if not thousands, of citizens.  We plan on keeping our finger on the pulse of this issue and being involved as much as possible, with this episode hopefully aiding the good fight in some way.Find Information Here:https://www.saveboca.org/Check Us Out Here:https://genxadultingpodcast.com/#overdevelopment #government #local #town #city #bocaraton #florida #southflorida #miami #ftlauderdale #saveboca #delraybeach #veterans #wwII #worldwarII #america #activism #memorial #warmemorial #park #banyan #banyantrees #museum #childrensmuseum #smalltown #downtown #beach #nostalgia #genx #podcast #genxtalks #over50 #over40 #generationxCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

In this episode we welcome MJ Eldridge, also known as MJ aka Mommie on social media. MJ shares about her childhood growing up in Rhode Island in a log cabin in the woods, and regales us with relatable and hilarious GenX latchkey kid stories. Her love for performance started at an early age, as well as an interest in invention. After a year at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York as a theater major, MJ traveled to New Mexico then settled in Denver, where she met her first husband. A move to Michigan led her to a position at Homedics, where she found an outlet for her incredible ingenuity. We touch on motherhood and postpartum depression, as well as the many ways women are not served properly in healthcare. We discuss how the female experience can’t exist in the workplace, and how sharing the challenges of perimenopause and menopause can be a double edged sword for women. MJ candidly shares about her experience returning to the dating scene post-divorce, which can only be summed up as one long jump scare. We learn about her work with start-ups, which includes her extensive knowledge of the international supply chain and doing business with China. It is obvious that MJ is a valuable asset to any company she’s working for or for any client who hires her on as a consultant. There is no question that she is a phenomenal resource when it comes to product design, manufacturing and the logistics of shipping products around the globe. After her second divorce, MJ returned to Rhode Island to work for a sustainability company, and she extensively covers how the tariffs are affecting businesses. We discuss the journey of self-discovery that many GenX women are currently on, as well as the three P’s that men operate off of: Pay, Praise and Pleasure. MJ shares how “MJ aka Mommie” began on TikTok, as well as her new project, the “Mediocre at Best!” podcast, where listeners will have access to MJ’s wit, humor and brilliance in longer form. In this episode we welcome Gina Rania, Gen-X RESET Coach.  Gina shares about her childhood growing up in New Jersey with her parents and two older sisters.  Shortly after her parent's divorce when she was young, her mother remarried.  Gina grew up experiencing the trauma that results from having a parent who is an alcoholic, which contributed greatly to her having a fight, flight or fawn response throughout her life.  After attending school she married and had three beautiful children.  We discuss how generational trauma is passed down and how GenX women in particular are prone to wearing their “Wonder Woman Cape” and doing all the things and being all the things for everyone, except herself.  Gina shares the dark period after her divorce, and the day she decided to change the entire trajectory of her life.  Becoming a certified Life and Wellness Coach soon followed, which led to  Gina creating the RESET (Recognize, Embrace, Shift, Empower, Transformation) Framework.  Through the RESET Framework, Gina has helped her clients change their life by creating a bridge to transformation.  She is creating a growing community of women who have hit midlife and are searching for guidance on how to find themselves again, or maybe even find themselves for the first time in their lives.  Gina is also in the process of writing a book titled, “Gen X Reset", based on her RESET Framework.  Additionally she has created the “RESET Circle” where her clients receive an informative newsletter from her.  Whether it be perimenopause, menopause, trauma, divorce, fear, depression, anxiety or the other multitude of challenges people are facing midlife, Gina has created a tool to help.  We also discuss raising adult children, where Gina offers a glimpse into one of the most challenging times of her life when her daughter was battling cancer.  We loved our discussions with Gina and the insights she shared.  She truly has her finger on the pulse of GenX and we encourage our listeners to reach out to her if they are in need of some guidance and support.  We look forward to having Gina return to the studio to dive even deeper into some of the topics we discuss in this episode!Find Gina Here:https://www.ginarania.comTikTok: @gina_rania_Instagram: @ginarania3YouTube: @ginarania7790Facebook: Facebook.com/gina.raniadefrancisco#genx #generationx #midlife #menopause #perimenopause #podcast #interview #genxtalks #over50 #over40 #marriage #divorce #family #newjersey #coach #lifecoach #guthealth #cancer #trauma #depression #anxiety #parenting #adultchildren #therapy #reset #generationaltrauma Check us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 42 - GenX Speaks Series: Sherri Dindal - The Real Slim Sherri

In this episode we welcome Sherri Dindal, aka The Real Slim Sherri.  Sherri reflects on her “typical GenX childhood”, that was filled with being feral, drinking from the garden hose and even having her own Hansel and Gretel situation in her neighborhood.  A home life that involved alcoholism and the factors that typically go along with it resulted in Sherri acquiring the hypervigilance that so many GenXers have battled their entire lives.  We discuss the parenting styles of GenX as parents, and how many are breaking the cycle.  Sherri shares how she has been finding success in the use of EMDR Therapy on her healing journey.  We discuss how perimenopause may have played a role in Sherri’s decision to leave her job as an investigator at 43, but how that decision changed the entire trajectory of her life.  Together, Sherri and her wife Christa started their first business, Feather & Vine boutique, ten years ago.  Their second business, Wholesome Hippy soon followed, and has resulted in so much success that Sherri was recently on Good Morning America!  Sherri shares how turning 50 was an awakening for her and another pivotal moment in her life.  We learn how a severe battle with Covid led to her third business, The Real Slim Sherri, where she has gained over 6 million followers through her brilliant ability to use humor when discussing even the most taboo subjects, combined with an authenticity that brings comfort to her fans.  The Real Slim Sherri led to The GenX Takeover tour, a comedy variety show that she headlines along with three other GenX talents, Kelly Manno, The Dad Bod Veteran and Mr. Professor318.  The Millennials are also represented by host/comedian Justin Rupple.  The GenX Takeover Tour is the perfect example of "you can do anything at any age" and the importance of conquering your fear of being uncomfortable while continuing to challenge yourself.  It’s no wonder Sherri recently won the Cheer of the Year Award at the Cheer Choice Awards.  The award is given to someone who has done good in the world and helped others, and what an absolutely eloquent honor for all of GenX that someone from our generation, who has a shared story with us, and who had the courage to take a leap of faith midlife to chase her dreams, dreams that ended up helping people, won.  Many call her “The GenX Queen”,  and as much as Sherri so obviously appreciates everything she has and how much she adores her fans, there is no question that being a wife to Christa and a mother to her son and two daughters is the pride of her life.  We were absolutely thrilled to have this time with Sherri and not only hear her story, but discuss real issues that are affecting GenXers midlife.  Even if you’re not GenX, you will thoroughly enjoy every minute of this episode, and younger generations will learn a lot.Find Sherri At:http://www.therealslimsherri.com/ttps://genxtakeover.com/https://www.tiktok.com/@therealslimsherri?lang=enhttps://www.instagram.com/therealslimsherri/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCVOgGTmi_fT96aPcOoRQ6whttps://www.facebook.com/sherri.dindal/https://substack.com/@therealslimsherri?utm_source=user-menuCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 41 - Boomer Series: JD

In this episode we welcome JD, one of the coolest boomers we know.  JD shares about his experience coming from a large family of five children, which included many moves throughout his childhood.  We learn how one particular moment he witnessed while living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana changed his perspective on life forever.  We discuss youth sports and the impact travel sports has had on recreational leagues.  JD confirms that the movie "Dazed and Confused" was an accurate depiction of his high school years in the mid to late 1970s, as well as how much the college application process has changed.  He reflects on his college years at James Madison University, where he played lacrosse and made lifelong friends.  Life after college included starting a business with his buddies that became integrated into the software revolution of the 1980s.  JD’s next move was working for Cisco Systems, a position that put him on the forefront of the preparation for Y2K as well as offered him the opportunity to travel the world as a Global Account Manager.  JD offers valuable sales advice and wisdom based on his vast experience, and we highly encourage anyone considering a career in sales to pay extra attention to that part of the episode.  We discuss marital and domestic life when one spouse travels for work, as well as when you come to the point in your life where you truly appreciate what’s important.  JD shares his utter joy at becoming a grandfather, and once again offers great advice, this time on the topic of how to be a welcoming and supportive in-law to your child’s spouse.  We learn how his parents struggle with dementia and Alzheimer's lead him to becoming a Eucharistic minister, and how it has changed his life.  Mentions of his wife, son and daughter throughout the entire episode make it clear how much they mean to him, and how proud he is of his ever-growing family.  Finally, we touch on how the younger generations, especially Millennials and GenZ, view Boomers in general.  As expressed earlier, JD does not fit the typical “Boomer reputation” in any way, and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing his story as well as his outlook on life and thank him for sharing valuable advice and insight!Visit Us At:https://genxadultingpodcast.comhttps://www.tiktok.com/@genxadultinghttps://www.instagram.com/genx.adulting/https://www.facebook.com/genxadultinghttps://www.youtube.com/@genxadultinghttps://x.com/genxadultinghttps://www.amazon.com/shop/genxadultinghttps://shop.genxadultingpodcast.com#family #marriage #children #grandchildren #lacrosse #college #jamesmadisonuniversity #youthsports #music #dazedandconfused #cisco #ciscosystems #y2k #internet #software #sales #travel #inlaws #dementia #alzheimers #catholic #eucharisticminister #boomer #boomers #podcast #interview #genx #generationx #fyp #fypシ゚ #fyptiktok #fypyoutube #podcastclips #over50 #phasesoflife #relationship #memories #genxtalks #genxmemories #over40 #parenting #emptynest #opennest #adultchildrenCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 40 - The Millennials - Craig Salazar - The Steph and Craig Show

In this episode we welcome Craig Salazar, the Producer and Co-Host of “The Steph & Craig Show” podcast.  Being a Xennial/elder Millennial, Craig shares how his childhood closely resembled a typical GenX childhood.  Growing up in the town of Grantsville, Utah, which is situated in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, Craig spent his formative years playing baseball and riding his bike with friends all over town.  He touches on how the lack of emotional development that is common for many GenX and elder Millennial boys was dealt with through physical altercations with his older brothers as well as friends at school.  His parents divorce resulted in sporadic involvement from his dad in his life, which just added to the disconnect he had already been feeling from his father.  After graduating high school, Craig spontaneously headed to Minnesota to have a whirlwind romance, or two, before ultimately returning home a few months later.  A move to Salt Lake City led to meeting his first wife, the adoption of his first daughter and the birth of his second daughter.  Craig reflects on the joys he experienced while being a stay-at-home dad for several years, while continuing to hustle with part-time jobs to help support his family.  After moving the family back to Grantsville, Craig eventually became a corrections officer and ultimately a police officer.  His insight into both experiences is riveting, as is the story of why he was fired.  After the divorce from his first wife, Craig married his current wife Stephanie and they became a family of six, with Craig becoming a father to his third daughter and son.  Life after leaving law enforcement resulted in a spiritual awakening that led Craig to ThetaHealing as well as the “Energy is Love” podcast, where he would host various guests from the spiritual and healing world, in addition to sometimes co-hosting with Stephanie.  A pivotal moment in Craig’s life was discovering the Evryman men’s organization, followed by a year of intensive therapy using MDMA that both he and Stephanie participated and flourished in.  Craig shares how the therapy, in addition to microdosing psilocybin, opened the door for the couple to live their most authentic life.  A move to Tennessee followed, where the couple built the studio for their current project, “The Steph & Craig Show” podcast, which is a culmination of their life’s journey, work and healing that was created to connect, resonate and help people feel understood.  We also touch on the importance of a woman’s partner putting in the effort to educate themselves about perimenopause in order to be a truly supportive partner.  We loved going on the ride of Craig’s story, and look forward to becoming regular listeners of “The Steph & Craig Show” to continue to learn and be inspired!Visit Craig at:https://www.stephandcraig.co/https://www.tiktok.com/@stephandcraighttps://www.instagram.com/steph.and.craig/https://www.youtube.com/@stephandcraig/?sub_confirmation=1https://www.facebook.com/stephandcraigUs:https://linktr.ee/genxadultinghttps://www.tiktok.com/@genxadultinghttps://www.instagram.com/genx.adulting/https://www.youtube.com/@genxadultingCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family

Episode 39 - GenX Speaks Series: Dr. Patrick Lynch

In this episode we welcome Dr. Patrick Lynch to the studio.  Pat shares about being a child of divorce that included estrangement from his mom and a strained relationship with his dad and step-mom.  After some typical GenX childhood antics, Pat was sent to military school at Riverside Preparatory Academy for high school.  There he learned to follow a strict regimen where he ultimately thrived and earned the privilege of leading his own platoon of cadets.  After graduation he almost immediately moved to Ashland, Oregon to attend Southern Oregon University.  During his time in Ashland Pat found a space where he could find and honor his authentic self.  Pat’s diverse experience in Ashland included attending classes, making friends of various backgrounds, learning to be a professional painter, immersion in yoga, meditation and breathwork, being a caretaker of a beautiful property and even meeting his future wife.  Pat reflects on his reunification with his mom after almost two decades, in addition to reconnecting with other family members from his father’s side while living in Santa Cruz.  He also shares when he first realized he was colorblind, and how that has affected his life.  We learn about his passion for snowboarding and the exciting experiences surrounding it, including snowboarding in Valdez, Alaska.  We are also offered a glimpse into his Ayahuasca experience in Washington state.  The birth of his son brought immense joy, purpose and fulfillment.  A move to Portland, Oregon to study Chinese medicine was followed by a move to Bend, Oregon where Dr. Lynch opened his current practice.  Dr. Lynch serves his patients by focusing on the root of infection in the body that may be the cause of chronic illness, including autoimmune diseases.  Dr. Lynch’s protocol has healed many people, including some who have found Dr. Lynch as their “last stop” after seeing numerous doctors and spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.  We highly encourage anyone who is suffering from disease or chronic illness to consult with Dr. Lynch about their symptoms, as he is a wealth of knowledge on health and getting to the root of illness.  We truly enjoyed Pat’s life story, and plan on having him return as a guest to provide a deeper dive into his knowledge on yoga, meditation, breathwork and healing the root cause of disease.  Dr. Lynch's Web Site & Health Resources:https://skyridgeacupuncture.com/https://trilliumhealthsolutions.com/https://www.youtube.com/@DrPatrickLynchDr. Lynch's Social Media:https://www.tiktok.com/@drpatricklynch12https://www.instagram.com/drpatricklynch/https://www.youtube.com/@DrPatrickLynchVisit Us At:https://linktr.ee/genxadultinghttps://www.tiktok.com/@genxadultinghttps://www.instagram.com/genx.adulting/https://www.youtube.com/@genxadultinghttps://www.amazon.com/shop/genxadulting#health #autoimmunedisease #thyroiddisease #hashimotos #hashimotosdisease #lupus #ms #rheumatoidarthritis #ra #thyroiditis #militaryschool #family #ayahuasca #divorce #chinesemedicine #colorblind #estrangement #snowboardingCheck us out at genxadulting.com#generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family
