Interview with P.O.D
We had the pleasure of interviewing Marcos Curiel of P.O.D. over Zoom video! P.O.D. — Sonny Sandoval [vocals], Marcos Curiel [guitar], Traa Daniels [bass], and Wuv Bernardo [drums] — have announced their upcoming summer and fall tour plans. The band will embark on a headline tour of the U.S., celebrating the 20th anniversary of their landmark, multi-platinum album Satellite. The tour kicks off August 14 and runs through October 7 in their native San Diego. From Ashes to New, All Good Things, and Sleep Signals will also appear. All dates are below. Tickets are available here. "We've been touring and working hard for almost 30 years now," Sandoval says. "It's all we know. This past year has really made me realize how much I love what I do and how much I appreciate that I am still able to make music and play live for all of those who are still listening. Thank you to all of you who still love live music and can't wait to be a part of the P.O.D. experience. We can't wait to see all of your beautiful faces out on the road." Curiel shares the sentiment, saying, "It's been way too long. We are beyond excited to get back to the stage — where we provide the rock and you provide the roll. From familiar faces to new ones, let's get back to what we've all been waiting for. We are ready as a band to create new memories with you all. Let's do this! Peace, love, light, and rock 'n' roll." From Ashes to New's Matt Brandyberry weighed in about the tour, saying, "In 2001, we were literally 'The Youth of the Nation' and P.O.D.'s hit was an anthem to so many of us. Satellite was an album that helped shape a genre and will go down as one of the greatest records of that era. We are honored to join them on this U.S. tour to help celebrate 20 years of an absolute masterpiece." Additionally, P.O.D. will drop the SATELLITE: 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION as a double-CD and digitally on September 3 for $24.98 through Rhino. It is available for pre-order now. Releasing a few days before the album's official anniversary on September 11, the 27-song collection introduces a newly remastered version of the original album, plus a selection of rarities, remixes, and four previously unreleased demos, including "Alive (Semi-Acoustic Version)," available today. A few weeks later, on October 8, SATELLITE: 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be released on vinyl as a double-LP as a part of Rhino's Rocktober campaign. After debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200, SATELLITE went on to sell more than seven million copies worldwide, including three million in the U.S. The record generated four singles: the title track, "Alive," "Youth of the Nation," and "Boom." In addition to its commercial success, Satellite also earned P.O.D. three Grammy nominations for: "Alive" (Best Hard Rock Performance, 2002), "Portrait" (Best Metal Performance, 2003), and "Youth of the Nation" (Best Hard Rock Performance, 2003). SATELLITE: 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION has a bonus disc that includes b-sides like "Critic" and "Sabbath" that were initially released in Europe, plus remixes for "Boom" by The Crystal Method and "Youth of the Nation" by Mike$ki. Interview with Pasha
We had the pleasure of interviewing Pasha over Zoom video! Pasha is truly one of the most exciting hip-hop acts emerging from Norway's rap-scene. Becoming an established artist on the Scandinavian hip hop scene, Pasha spent the past year selling out shows while charting on national radio and gaining solid attention from some of Norway's most prominent media. However, the artist is now gaining exposure far outside of his home country, adding official soundtracks to Netflix movies, getting highlighted by Ebro on Beats 1 Radio and live performances in Los Angeles and Austin to his resume. Blending nostalgic 90's vibes with quirky, playful and funky hip-hop, the young artist stood out from his peers and was asked to support international acts such as Onyx and Dj Premiere as a teenager. Jumping on every live opportunity he got, the iconic rapper quickly became notorious for his explosive live shows and his unique talent as an entertainer. While building a hype through notorious live performances, Pasha released singles such as Around The Area, Colorblind and Tie-Dye, gaining traction on YouTube channels such as such as Rap City, The Ride Channel and Funky Panda, as well as securing a spots at X GAMES in Oslo's line up. Being featured in NME's list of the world's most promising talents in 2017 became a turning point: "As Scandinavia leads the pop assault on the charts worldwide–Pasha is spearheading the growing rapscene coming form Northern Europe"–NME Pasha continued releasing bangers such as "I Don't Speake French", "Prettyboi Bounce" and "Purple Pudding", gaining attention from Highsnobiety, Clash Magazine and Rap Nation while charting on national radio. Passionate about performing, Pasha spent the past years spreading his love through about 40 shows a year across Northern Europe, including SPOT festival in Denmark and the prominent Apple Tree Garden Festival in Germany. Simultaneously, Pasha's track "Throw A Party" was handpicked by the director of the Netflix movie "Battle" to feature as the official soundtrack, and has now reached millions around the globe. Interview with Olivia Reid
We had the pleasure of interviewing Olivia Reid over Zoom video! NYC based Olivia Reid is one of the most versatile up and coming personalities in music. As a performing artist, songwriter, producer, sound engineer and podcast host, Reid has her fingerprint on every facet of the industry. Reid blends organic, acoustic sounds with electronic pop. Her warm and welcoming vocals give life to songs that push the boundaries of folk stories, and sound design that transports listeners to another world. Olivia Reid debut project "Earth Water" recently hit streaming platforms. Reid explains the title, "This EP was so rooted in nature. Especially living in cities like New York, LA and Berlin for long periods of time - I found myself telling stories through these natural metaphors. It's a way I find understanding, and inspires my production – to be able to create a feeling, an environment to get lost in." Olivia is a self managed, swiss army knife of music talent with technical expertise as a writer, performer, producer and engineer. Traditionally "trailblazer", "dynamic" and "relentless" are not the personality traits that come to mind when discussing artists in the folk/indie space, but Olivia Reid isn't your typical artist. Olivia's music transports listeners to their own serene natural environment where the complex yet understated music and production paint contrast between the themes of her music. She is among the less than 5% of women producers, one of the less than 3% of women sound engineers and a success story of what the future of a decentralized music industry looks like. She is proof that now more than ever, there are more opportunities for artists and creatives at gatekeeping institutions. We want to hear from you! Interview with Andy Grammer
We had the pleasure of interviewing Andy Grammer over Zoom video! Andy just released a new single, "Damn It Feels Good To Be Me", which will be featured on his new album coming out in early 2022. Of the track, Andy said, "I'm just at a point in life where I don't care what I'm not and I'm happy being me. I want this song to be for those who have come to that point in their life where they're just FINALLY enjoying the freedom of self-acceptance." A bit about Andy: he's not your typical optimist. Andy's ability to always look for the good stems from the pain of losing his mother at the age of 25. It broke him into a million pieces but gave him empathy that he wouldn't have had otherwise. He channels optimism in his music and spreads good energy to everyone around him. While on tour (before the pandemic), he had open discussions with his fans during meet-and-greets and on stage where they shared experiences that hurt them the most, how they grew from them and what they learned from them. It led to incredibly powerful moments, some of which he documented in his "Wish You Pain" video. We want to hear from you! Interview with Bert Keely
We had the pleasure of interviewing Bert Keely over Zoom video! Echoing the '60s psychedelic happenings around Stanford University, Bert Keely has woven two remarkable careers - as a pioneering Silicon Valley computer engineer and a wonderfully versatile guitarist. During the dotcom boom, the band he co-created - the Flying Other Brothers - made some phenomenal music, worth a new listen and now collected in the new limited-edition box set Circle Back! A 20-year retrospective featuring the Flying Other Brothers, Circle Back! includes three full-length albums Skywriting, Bert's Brew, and Alive and Grateful with special guests on select tracks, including Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead, guitarist G.E. Smith, and producer T Bone Burnett. At the start of the dotcom boom in the late '90s, Keely and his bandmates were at the epicenter of tech innovations that dramatically changed the world. While Bert worked closely with Bill Gates at Microsoft (1998 - 2008) and led the company's team to engineer the first Tablet PC prototype (LINK: Gates' 2000 keynote with Keely), Keely is also known by insiders as the engineer who convinced Steve Jobs to develop the iPad. His Silicon Valley tech community was swept up in the vast potential good of the Internet. Now more than a decade after their last flights, on tour and especially on San Francisco's live music scene, this band of techies virtually reunites on Circle Back! to celebrate the best of the Flying Other Brothers. Founding Flying Other Brothers band members Roger McNamee (venture capitalist), Giles McNamee (investment banker), Bill Bennett (marketing/PR strategist), Tony Bove (technology author), Larry Marcus (venture capitalist), and Keely were techies to the core, fond of the Grateful Dead who had also formed in the neighborhoods around Stanford. Keely's only time seeing Garcia live was at the Keystone in '78 with the Jerry Garcia Band; it was in the same room (previously known as The Big Beat) that the Grateful Dead played their first Acid Test under that name. In '78, Keely was a junior at Stanford studying engineering under professor Bob McKim who had conducted what became known as "engineering acid tests" to understand the creative potential of psychedelics. The next year Keely came to release his solo debut album of psychedelic folk, Take Me Home, in '79. For Keely and the Flying Other Brothers, music and technology were always a weave. The scene at Stanford proved to be fertile ground for Bert's burgeoning careers in both engineering and music. Circle Back! Box Set -- Featuring The Flying Other Brothers: Circle Back! gives an inside look into the songwriting that made the Flying Other Brothers an extraordinary collective who recorded four albums of high energy music with producers such as Jack Casady (52-Week High), Stacy Parrish (Secondary), and Shauna Hall of 4 Non Blondes (IPO). Circle Back! carries their music/tech wave into 2021 with three new albums: Skywriting, Bert's Brew, and Alive and Grateful. Across the box set, Bert Keely's riveting guitar shares the spotlight with pedal steel solos by Barry Sless and electric solos by G.E. Smith, as well as standout rhythm guitar work by Bob Weir and Roger & Giles McNamee. The Flying Other Brothers lived for the moment. Listening to Circle Back! is an invitation to ponder how things have changed in twenty years, and to try to imagine changes that lie ahead. We want to hear from you!
