Interview with Drew Green

We had the pleasure of interviewing Drew Green over Zoom video. As a McMinnville, Tennessee, native, Drew Green grew up just beyond earshot of Nashville's storied country music industry. Now, after years of thriving as one of Music Row's most prolific songwriters, the singer is poised for an equally fruitful artist career. With his debut track, "Little More Be Alright," Green counts the blessings of his well-earned success. Lyrically, it's a prayer of sorts — he gives thanks for what he has, while acknowledging that there's always room for more when it comes to time spent with loved ones. Drew Green got his start as a songwriter -- including penning a Florida Georgia Line cut "Colorado" with HARDY and Hunter Phelps (FGL, Chase Rice). Drew just released a new single, "Good Ol' Man," a heartwarming track about being the best father and husband he can for his family. The song has received an overwhelming response on TikTok with over 13M total views on all "Good Ol' Man" posts, while he's nearly tripled his total follower count. We want to hear from you! Interview with Bryan Senti

We had the pleasure of interviewing Bryan Senti over Zoom video. Rising composer and violinist/violist Bryan Senti's new album Manu is out now on Naïve Records. Manu is the first crossover album for the classically trained Senti, a first-generation Cuban/Mexican- and Colombian-American, combining western neo-classical traditions with the Latin American folk music his parents grew up with. Unique among classical releases, the parts of Manu were recorded individually, enabling the record to be released in Dolby Atmos as well as with a traditional audio mix. This unusual recording process gave engineer Francesco Donadello a unique opportunity to push the mixes, creating an illusion of three-dimensionality that plays on the psychedelic character of the music. In 2020, Senti turned 38 and had his first child. "When I thought about the stories that I wanted to impart to her, the things I wanted her to learn from me, I thought back on what things I had learned as a child, or wished I had learned," he says of writing Manu. "What I wished I had learned was an ability to cherish both a Hispanic and American identity equally." Bryan Senti is based in Los Angeles; recent collaborations include projects with Dustin O'Halloran and Peter Gregson for Deutsche Grammophon. His film and TV career began with Michael Almereyda's Experimenter in 2014 and since then he has worked on multiple films and TV shows including the BAFTA winning series "Save Me" (2021) by Lennie James. Currently he's scoring the BBC 3 musical "Mood" by Nicôle Lecky. In addition to working on classical music, Senti's experimental pop project Ex Mykah is signed to the London-based Kowloon Records and his LP 16, 17 was released in 2018. He also collaborated with Mark Ronson on his production Carbon Life, performed by the Royal Ballet, and has toured and recorded for the Canadian singer-songwriter Feist. Senti received a master's in music composition from The Yale School of Music in 2009. We want to hear from you! Interview with Franky Perez

We had the pleasure of interviewing Franky Perez over Zoom video. Franky Perez' new album Crossing the Great Divide is out now on Black Sea Music. Perez's new songs have indeed been road tested after playing them on three different stages at the Black Deer Festival in the UK in front of cheering crowds and confirming that the songs translate live and work as well as they do in the studio. Kentonline in the UK said he "filled the packed tent with American soul and foot stomping beats. . . with a call and response style provoking the crowd to chant back together." Leading up to the album release, Perez unveiled "The Great Divide" as well as "90's Love Song," of which Glide Magazine describes as "a persistently hook-filled song that gives a fluorescent glow to modern pop." The track was mixed by multiple-Grammy award winner Sebastian Krys—whose recent accolades include producing the latest Elvis Costello album. The new album finds Franky—clean and sober for 9 years—returning to his roots to tell a story of self-transformation. Crossing The Great Divide is full of big melodies, hooks and sentiments that are real and often autobiographical. The new record runs the gamut of Perez's many talents as songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and he played almost everything on it. "That's something I'm really proud of," he says. "I probably performed about 90% of the instrumentation on the album and I recorded and engineered it myself. If I felt that I couldn't get a certain feel, then I reached out to that particular player to get it." With a commanding vocal presence and a charismatic personality, singer/songwriter Perez has worked with artists ranging from Billy Gibbons and Joe Cocker to Darius Rucker and Ringo Starr and has also performed with Steven Tyler, Cody Jinks, Chris Janson and Slash among many others. Along the way, Perez has released four critically acclaimed solo albums and his music was featured on six seasons of Sons of Anarchy. He has performed at major events, charities and music festivals all over the world. We want to hear from you! Interview with Zoe Zobrist

We had the pleasure of interviewing Zoe Zobrist over Zoom video. Following wide-spread acclaim for "Oh Baby," the single written for her yet-to-be-born son Beau, Dallas recording artist Zoe Zobrist has spent the past few months cultivating tracks that speak to fans on an intimate level. Today, the young songwriter has dropped her new single "Better" on all streaming services, after exclusively premiering the song's music video — directed by Shan Dan Horan (Demi Lovato, Julia Michaels) — via Hollywood Life. "Better" serves as a reminder that our pasts do not define us — we must allow ourselves to grow and change in order to open our life's next chapter. In the outer layer of the track's production listeners can find comfort in its indie folk softness, nestled with Zobrist's sincere and vulnerable lyricism. The swooning track will certainly move audiences; "Better" is the perfect anthem for personal growth this spring. Crafting songs that are as personal as they are dynamic, Zoe Zobrist is a singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas. A life-long musician, Zoe has spent the better half of her career performing and touring across North America. She has graced the stages of iconic music venues throughout the Southwest including Los Angeles' The Viper Room, The Troubadour, and Dallas Fort Worth's Six Flags Amphitheater. In 2019, Zoe was featured in John Mellencamp's tour documentary which played on-screen during his "John Mellencamp Show" North American Tour. Zoe has spent the past few years refining her sound and experimenting with different styles, ultimately leading to her unique blend of classically inspired indie music. In her most recent single, "Oh Baby" Zoe shares a diary-like expression of unconditional love and anticipation for the future to her first child. Deeply personal, Zoe's latest work is the musical embodiment of her very existence and journey to self-discovery. "Better" is raw and honest, Zoe has learned from her previous mistakes and she's not afraid to tell the world what she's learned. After releasing "Fire" and "Oh Baby" in 2021, Zoe is back with her first release of the year. Discussing vulnerability and maturity, Zoe's soft acoustic guitar and beautiful vocals are ready to show the world what she and her music are truly capable of. We want to hear from you! Interview with Jukebox the Ghost

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jukebox The Ghost over Zoom video. Jukebox the Ghost's flamboyant and ambitious new album, "Cheers" is an arena-sized, ebullient toast to surviving and thriving in the face of hard times, conjuring up 70's Queen and McCartney-styled song suites, without sacrificing any modern punch. As the millennial generation's torch carrier of the piano pop legacy, Jukebox the Ghost's latest album represents a fresh, ambitious, and imaginative take on the piano rock genre. Piano-pop trio Jukebox the Ghost formed in college in 2006 and has steadily their devoted fanbase over almost two decades, finding their home as an internationally touring band with a massive, grassroots following outside of traditional music industry pipelines. Composed of Ben Thornewill (piano/vocals), Tommy Siegel (guitar/bass/vocals) and Jesse Kristin (drums/vocals), they have played over 1,000 shows around the world over the course of their touring career. "Cheers", their sixth studio effort, is the result of a three-year songwriting and recording process, culled from over 50 songs that the band brought to the table. The recording process began in Brooklyn during the beginning of the pandemic and continued throughout, with the band self-producing and quarantining together for six months to make the finished product -- by far the longest stretch of time the band has spent in the studio working on a LP to date. The effort is palpable; motifs appear and re-appear in interstitial tracks that segue into standalone pop songs, implying a larger thematic architecture that borders on a concept record without being overwrought. By almost any measure, it's their most ambitious and cohesive creative effort to date. Longtime fans will hear little bits of past Jukebox the Ghost embedded in the record, distilled into something more confident and bold. The imaginative lyrics, song segues, and storytelling of Let Live and Let Ghosts (2008), the retro sensibility of Everything Under the Sun (2010), the concise modern pop smarts of their recent self-titled album (2014) and the broad pop earnestness of Off to the Races (2018) are all on full display. On their sixth studio album, Jukebox the Ghost is firing on all cylinders. Cheers, indeed. We want to hear from you! Interview with William Beckmann

We had the pleasure of interviewing William Beckmann over Zoom video. William Beckmann, the bilingual country crooner who is releasing his new album Faded Memories. Hailing from the border town of Del Rio, TX, William was raised on both classic country and the Norteño sounds of northern Mexico. He delivers a blend of vintage country, Americana and Latin music in a timeless baritone that sounds right at home with country legends well beyond his years. His latest single "Danced All Night Long" is a Latin country love song that's been hailed by American Songwriter and Billboard, who said "The bilingual track highlights his smooth vocal, with nods to George Strait, while breezes of horns and acoustic guitar propel this country waltz." William has also released several other singles off the new album, including the slow-burn "Bourbon Whiskey," a mesmerizing cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" and my personal fave, the haunting "In The Dark," which was praised by CMT. Folks like Randy Rogers and fellow Del Rio native Radney Foster have already taken notice of William, both mentoring and working with him in various capacities over the last couple years. He spent most of last year touring with Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, etc, and he's already amassed an incredible fanbase, independently garnering more than 41k followers across socials, 450k TikTok followers and over 1M streams. Interview with RXPTRS

We had the pleasure of interviewing RXPTRS over Zoom video. Bristol, UK-based band RXPTRS — who blend rock, metal, punk, and hardcore with a seamlessness that is enviable, creating something that is unique that seethes with boundless energy — have released their new album Living Without Death's Permission, out now via Metal Blade Records. When it came to starting work on their debut full-length, the majority of the writing sessions were a "lockdown lock-in." Due to the pandemic, RXPTRS were unable to get together in the rehearsal room as they would have otherwise. However, three of the members live together, which made things a little easier, and they would bounce tracks around between them via email, before the restrictions were finally lifted and they could all be in the same place. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Oz Craggs at Hidden Track Studios in Folkestone, who the band has worked with since their 2019 debut EP, having a great rapport. COVID again had an effect on the recording sessions, limiting the number of people who could be in the studio at any one time, but they placed their trust in one another and Craggs to get the best possible results. This all ultimately worked out in their favor, delivering a record that will introduce the wider world to RXPTRS and open their eyes to what this young band is capable of delivering. Looking to the road ahead, Leworthy sees "blood, sweat and tears, and not all our own" while Roach says, "I feel like this is just the beginning. Our most recent track has put us in the ears of more and more people worldwide, and we can't wait to get in front of every one of them at a live show. We have a hell of a lot to say, and we'll be like juggernauts until we say it all." We want to hear from you! Moonwalking, Young Folk's (aka Josh Lovelace) third release, is a modern pop infused take on his unique brand of family style Americana. The album features ten brand new songs created to spark imagination and happiness. Lovelace, a member of the Grammy nominated rock band NEEDTOBREATHE, released his debut family album Young Folk in 2017 and followed that with the rave reviewed Growing Up in 2019. Interview with Jonah Matranga of onelinedrawing and Far

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jonah Matranga over Zoom video. Jonah Matranga is no stranger to the scene. He has been making music for over 30 years and has become somewhat of an institution. A prolific artist who is full of ideas and he straddles the line between the underground and the mainstream cusp, Matranga has fronted the bands FAR, NEW END ORIGINAL, and GRATITUDE, and has worked with indie labels like Jade Tree to majors such as Atlantic. His music has been noted as influencing many notable bands ranging from Deftones to Blink-182. Simply put, there is no one quite like Jonah Matranga. Throughout his long career, he has always written from the heart and performed in an intimate way that few others have accomplished like he has, after playing almost 4,000 shows. From basements to massive festivals, he brings the same energy with him — a devoted fanbase, raw honesty, and an interest in making every show unique and personal. This has always been the most apparent in Matranga's solo and collaborative project performing as onelinedrawing. Jonah's performance as onelinedrawing has always been about connecting with fans in an intimate setting, where he often performed with only his guitar and his R2D2 sidekick. Tenderwild marks the return of onelinedrawing, which is the first time since 2004's The Volunteers (Jade Tree) that Jonah has used the moniker. This album brought together so many friends and fellow musicians that it only felt right to release it as onelinedrawing. Tenderwild is an uplifting journey that was written and inspired during a chaotic time of healing for Matranga. Contrasting between guitar driven rock songs and heartfelt intense ballads, Tenderwild is a collection of some of the best songs Jonah has ever written. The album features guest appearances from many of Matranga's close friends, such as: Zach Lind (Jimmy Eat World), Jeremy Tappero (Soul Asylum), Norman Brannon (Texas Is The Reason), Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional), John Gutenberger (Far), and Jake Snider (Minus The Bear). Tenderwild is an expansive and special album that has something for everyone. We want to hear from you! Interview with grandma

We had the pleasure of interviewing grandma over Zoom video. Following his April single "I Met God Online," genre-bending alternative artist grandma releases "Blue Atlanta," a dreamy ode to darkness and disengagement. grandma also announces his next EP, "Angelhood" today, which is set for an August 19th release. "Blue Atlanta is about the imaginative avenues I created at a time of extreme loss. When I began to hate my environment and my inner world grew dull all I could do was detach. The video is about unfolding and breaking away from the life I created that caused me so much pain. Whether it was friends dying to addiction or suicide I just felt the light went dimmer and dimmer," says grandma of the track. "I Met God Online," released last month, chronicles the nonlinear nature of love in the digital age—failed talking stages, psychosexual pining, miscommunication and vibe shifts— intertwined with a fascinating strain of theism. "I Met God Online" is about people's fascination with internet esotericism," says grandma. "A meditation on how someone's life and internet presence can amorphously become someone else's religion, obsession, or gospel." Hailed by Highsnobiety for "crafting music that pushes the notion of genre experimentation and fusion to unimaginably innovative heights," grandma – a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist/producer Liam Hall – has earned applause for his fascinating amalgam of bedroom hip-hop, raw funk, alternative R&B, and lo-fi pop, showcased on 2019's debut mixtape, Even If We Don't Get It Together. The project – which features such groundbreaking tracks as "Stomp and Grind (Feat. Rico Nasty)," "Downtown Life," and "Shallow Water," – was followed in 2020 by an extensive string of chameleonic singles, including "Everybody's On Their Phone," which was featured on SiriusXM Alt Nation's Advanced Placement and described by PAPER Magazine as a "reassuring and observant new song", and "Virtually Anything," an acclaimed collaboration with anti-pop star sophie meiers which earned acclaim from Nuance Magazine as "an extremely enticing track that is a must listen for any alternative/R&B fans." Known throughout Atlanta's pop and hip-hop scenes for his skills as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, programmer, arranger, and visual artist, grandma has received a wide range of media attention, with Pigeons & Planes naming him "Best New Artist of the Month" and A1234 declaring, "grandma, I have no doubt, will soon be the soundtrack to many people's adolescence as his genre-defying talent speaks to a whole new generation of music lovers." The preternaturally talented polymath maintained a steady flow of tracks through 2020, including "Chills," "Bested," and "Growing Up Is Strange". Now grandma is poised to push his distinctive brand of personal pop ever higher, reaching heavenward with a one-of-a-kind sound and vision unlike any other. Expect more music from this new chapter soon. We want to hear from you!
