Interview with Nikki Yanofsky

We had the pleasure of interviewing Nikki Yanofsky over Zoom video! Montreal based jazz singer Nikki Yanofsky returns today with the release of her new album 'Nikki By Starlight' via MNRK Music Group – a 15-track voyage through vintage jazz standards from storied musicians Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and more. 'Nikki By Starlight' was co-produced with the JUNO-winning producer/composer Paul Shrofel and features contributions from Stevie Wonder's bandmate Greg Phillinganes, Nathan East (Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson) and the iconic Cuban-American jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Yanofsky recorded these songs on a vintage RCA 77C, the microphone that was used by Ella Fitzgerald. Yanofsky's transportive musical touch brings the Great American Songbook into the 21st century, providing a chance for new audiences and existing fans alike to fall in love with a refreshed style. Ultimately, 'Nikki By Starlight' is a mix of ballads, uptempo tracks and sambas that make you believe in teleportation. "Comes Love" has a real slinky vibe reminiscent of an old-fashioned speakeasy, "C'est Si Bon'' is a nod to 1960s Paris with a very classic French arrangement, "West Coast Blues'' features a pocketed ensemble with Greg Phillinganes on organ and a Lalo Schifrin inspired horn solo, and "Estate" is an Italian classic featuring Arturo Sandovel's signature trumpet. With 'Nikki By Starlight,' Yanofsky continues to prove her artistry – stemming all the way back to when she sang the National Anthem on live television at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in front of 3.2 billion people. Yanofsky's self-titled album 'Nikki,' released in 2010, gained the attention of the late prolific songwriter Rod Temperton ("Thriller," "Rock With You," "Boogie Nights"), who took her under his wing becoming her mentor, creative coach and musical champion. Her sophomore effort Little Secret, found Yanofsky exploring the velvet-clad sweet spot between jazz and pop with bold sentiments that signaled a self-assured coming of age. In 2020 she released 'Turn Down The Sound,' a 10-track LP (eOne Music) that showcases her independence and marks a newfound departure for her career as a young musician, earning praise upon release from Billboard, Uproxx, and more. Interview with XTIE

We had the pleasure of interviewing XTIE over Zoom video! The vulnerability XTIE showcases through her songwriting on "Skin" emulates a message worth embracing. ""Skin" is a very important song that contributes to my artistic journey, and because of that I've chosen to partner with a Nonprofit [Body Banter] to further bring out the social initiative. In the past, I've never shown my skin condition in interviews, but I've recently freed myself from my body image issues after being mocked about my skin condition and looking "underweight" during my teenage years. The production of "Skin" explores very relevant and important topics for today's young people: body image disorders, the link between social media and body image, as well as physical and mental health. XTIE's high register resounds on a confessional bridge before the hook's affirmation; "Fighting all of my insecurities. Stop judging me by looking at my skin. I just wanna lift up my chin. Telling me there's a world to win." Through the power of performing arts, XTIE and Emily have incorporated their own experiences of having body image issues into this video, since it's a very unique perspective that can truly resonate with. This is showcased through the choreography style; using moves to emulate things like having habits affecting body language, squinting in the mirror when trying on clothes to "block out" eczema, excessive picking, etc.Hailing from Hong Kong, XTIE is an independent artist that self-produces, writes, arranges, and performs her own songs. Already having garnered support from Earmilk, Billboard ID, MTV Asia, BBC Radio, and more. Her singles "Spaceship", "frenemy" peaked No.1 on the RTHK Global chart. MTV Asia praised XTIE stating; "Not only gifted with warm jazz-tinged vocals, she also writes, arranges, produces, and performs her songs that are shimmering." Earmilk raved about her previous release; "XTIE continues to set herself up as a promising talent in the industry with her flair for transportive productions." Apart from her releases as an artist, her production credits include stellar-level acts and TV shows from Hong Kong, including but not limited to: Janice Vidal, Alfred Hui, ViuTV King Maker IV, (a girl group idol competition) etc. XTIE is also currently writing and producing for A-Pop / K-pop markets as well. Interview with Sofi Vonn

We had the pleasure of interviewing Sofi Vonn over Zoom video! London based New York born electronic pop singer-songwriter Sofi Vonn released her latest single "Songs" today, following an exclusive premiere yesterday with Pop Culturalist. This single followed the success of Sofi's recently released singles "what you started" "Ghost" and "Best I Can" as well as the success of her debut EP That Was A Close Call that was released at the end of 2021 following an exclusive premiere and interview with LADYGUNN. "Songs" is the first single release from Sofi in the build up to her sophomore EP set for release later this year. Sofi's deep lyrics and light melodies create a set of contradictions that somehow fit together perfectly to tell a relatable narrative of youth. With her exceptional voice, she deftly expresses emotions and opinions on society, love, sexuality, and all the other things that everyone goes through. Vonn's music draws from her personal experiences which have taken her across the world and back several times. In the build up to the release of her debut EP Sofi premiered a handful of singles off the EP with outlets like Hollywood Life, and Queerty Born and raised in New York City to German parents, she grew up in the artistic driven West Village neighborhood drawing musical influence from a variety of different backgrounds which has given her the freedom to come up with an artistic style that is uniquely her own. Following High School in Zürich, Switzerland Sofi felt confused as she considered what to do post-graduation. Sofi took a break from music and attended Tulane University in New Orleans where she earned a degree in psychology (with a German minor), but as fate would have it, she was brought back to music when she studied abroad in Berlin, Germany for a year. Besides DJing at a festival, she also studied sound engineering for a bit before finally landing a full-time job with the BMG record label, which brought Vonn back to her hometown of New York City. Her work at the label taught her marketing skills that she then used to help her advance her DJ career at night. She became an in-demand house and techno DJ, booking numerous shows around the city for the next two years. Unlike many pop singers, Vonn writes all of her own material. A vibrant storyteller, her depth of feeling and love for her craft is evident in every track. Her warm and powerful voice is the perfect means for conveying her lyrics, which are at once introspective yet universal. Concurrent with her formal music education. With everything in place Sofi Vonn is now ready to start the buildup to the release of her sophomore EP, so stay tuned to Sofi's socials below for updates from Sofi including new music as well as upcoming concerts. Interview with BraydBunch

We had the pleasure of interviewing BraydBunch over Zoom video! Any real artist can attest that the functionality of music can vary from person to person. Music can be entertainment, an agent for change, and also a source of strength. For the New York based Trans Non-Binary artist known as Braydbunch, it's a combination of all three. Braydbunch is an artist that holds no punches with their work, as they are making more than just music; they're building a movement. A movement that goes far beyond their work in music, sports and education, creating a community of acceptance for them and the people around them breaking down barriers for others who share similar life experiences to Brayd. Recently Braydbunch did just that when she became the 1st ever Celebrity Boxing Non-Binary Division Champion. Now Braydbunch is following up that success with plans to drop their latest single "Snakes & Gates". This is an aggressive rap driven single that finds Braydbunch tapping into their rock roots to create the perfect pump jam for the grueling training they have undergone over the last year in preparing for their Celebrity Boxing debut. Growing up in Huntington, Long Island, Braydbunch describes their younger self as a kid with big dreams and an even bigger imagination. As a child Brayd was always humming tunes around the house. At the time, they were classified as non-verbal, so Brayd spoke through music. By freshman year of high school, they entered into a Battle Of the Bands contest with two other friends, rapping with what could be described as a "McDonald's" aesthetic. By sophomore year, they formed a punk band called The SophMorons, along with a couple of other bands throughout their high school years. After graduating high school, Brayd moved onto college, earning a Bachelor's Degree in History with a certification in Secondary Education. They continued onto graduate school, earning two Masters in Special Education and Counseling. It was around this time that Brayd recognized the true depths of their identity and thus began transitioning from male to female. Their transition though hasn't always been an easy process as they received push back from their job in the education world, as Brayd was threatened, harassed, discriminated against, and nearly wrongfully terminated for their identity. However, in the midst of the madness, Brayd found a sense of community within their New York City students. It started with exchanging raps on historical subjects like the Haitian Revolution and graduated to Brayd starting a club at school for those interested in hip-hop. As Braydbunch, the artist harnesses masculine and feminine energy in a way that at times is a perfect balance and at others a perfect contrast. Their persona is deconstructed into two parts: there's Lady Brayd, the glam EDM producer/artist and Shady Brayd, the bona fide rapper. As a lifelong martial artist, Brayd's music is not only a place for them to vent, but also the soundtrack to their own training. Training that has been fruitful for Brayd as they became the first ever Celebrity Boxing Nonbinary Division Champion, where they are known as the "The Non-Binary Ninja." Stay tuned to Braydbunch's socials below for more updates on future concert, and music releases as well as updates on her training and future fights. We want to hear from you! Interview with L E A

We had the pleasure of interviewing L E A over Zoom video! L E A debuts her infectious, anthemic new single "FTS (Sick of This)" featuring viral artist, producer, and Emo Nite New Orleans DJ Bemo Rouge. The track permeates with inspiration that is equal parts pop, emo, pop-punk, and hip-hop to formulate a distinct sound that only L E A could conjure up. It is a quintessential track to represent the modern iterations of punk that music fans are thirsting for. The uplifting, instantly catchy melody is the backdrop for her story as a struggling artist as she finally unlocks the success that she strived to achieve: "This song is about knowing you're about to break into the scene as an alternative artist, getting ready to prove to people who told you you wouldn't make it while struggling financially and mentally to balance it all alone." - L E A Growing up in the small, yet touristy beach town of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, L E A was homegrown from every and all kinds of rock n roll. The Los Angeles-based artist has intertwined the boldness of punk with the beachiness of pop turning her into the alternative pop act she is today. Inspired by artists such as Mayday Parade, Charlotte Sands, Secondhand Serenade, Magnolia Park, and many more from the iconic Warped Tour era, L E A considers her sound colorful, extroverted, aggressive, and blunt. Having a heavy musical background, lower-timbre rock vocals, and an obsession with the colorful world around her, L E A is sure to stand out in a crowd and make her presence known. After all, she is a Leo. We want to hear from you!
