Interview with Annabel Lee
We had the pleasure of interviewing Annabel Lee over Zoom video! Los Angeles-based alt-rocker Annabel Lee shares her debut album Mother's Hammer! Written mostly while in quarantine in 2020, Mother's Hammer gave Annabel Lee time to reflect on preceding years which were some of the hardest of her life. After a cross-country move to pursue music, Lee found herself in challenging situations, from struggling with addiction and running out of money to ending an eight year relationship that left her without a place to live. It was from this profound hardship that an incredibly intimate, expansive body of work emerged. Diving into the subject matter, Lee shares, "Some of the stories on the album relate to being strung along by vampires in the industry. Being mistreated and taken advantage of. Fumbling around trying to fall in love and staying numb at every turn. Grieving the loss of friends, gone much too soon, and trying to see the silver linings but losing hope. Being 3,000 miles from anyone that actually knew me. It was a very dark and informative time." Over 11 compelling tracks, Annabel paints a realistic portrait of the human experience that never hesitates to confront even the most grim aspects of her life. Conversely, Annabel matches these darker emotions with joyous moments, shining a bright light on womanhood with gritty, fiery energy as she finds her own strength and begins to fully trust herself. The music meets her where she is, putting both her artistry and humanity on full display like never before. All songs were written by Annabel Lee, and produced and recorded by Justin Glasco. It was mixed by Ryan Lipman and mastered by Jett Galindo at Bakery Mastering. All vocals are also by Annabel Lee and instrumentation is by Lee and Glasco. Annabel got her start as the acoustic opener for hardcore shows around New England and since moving out to Los Angeles, has quickly built a die-hard fan base as she fills clubs around town including the famed School Night showcase, the Echo, Gold Diggers, the Satellite, and the Hotel Cafe. The alt-pop singer/songwriter Mothica also cites herself as a fan, where she posted a TikTok of herself front row at an Annabel Lee concert with the caption "I love it when women…" cut to Annabel thrashing onstage to her song "Ugly Son of a Bitch." Mother's Hammer, the raw, ethereal debut album by Annabel Lee is available everywhere now! We want to hear from you! Interview with Vandelux
We had the pleasure of interviewing Vandelux over Zoom video! Vandelux (Evan White) is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist from Vancouver, BC, now residing in San Francisco, CA. Evan brings a global perspective to his music, drawing his artist name from a peculiar composition of past city dwellings (Vancouver, Deland, Luxembourg) that helped shape his sound into what it is today. Balancing retro nostalgia with contemporary electronic production, Vandelux has a knack for crafting songs that work their way into the collective conscience. Finding early success from the social media platform Tik Tok on his massive singles 'Matter of Time', which charted on the Billboard Dance Charts for 9+ weeks, 'Motion,' and 'Tulum,' Vandelux is set for a huge 2023! Interview with Project 86
We had the pleasure of interviewing Project 86 over Zoom video! PROJECT 86 are back and in a big way. The band will release the double album OMNI in two parts. OMNI Part 1 is out now! OMNI Part 2 will arrive in the fall of this year. OMNI is an immersive Sci-fi/horror media experience, one part double album, one part film, one part novel. Though it is a work of fiction, it is rooted in current events, circa 2023. Sonically, it is a wholly unique merger of genres…death metal, gore, rock, electronic, and doom metal. Part one of the double album serves as the score and basis for the film/novel. Part two serves as a backstory to the emergence of OMNI, specifically its two antagonists/founders. The year is 2041. The human species has finally reached the moment where technology is poised to eradicate man's most ancient adversary: death itself. One big-tech power-an entity called THE OMNI-has emerged to lay claim to dominion over all civilization via three life-altering innovations: 1. THE PULSE: An mRNA genetic implant which has the power to regulate human emotion through algorithms. 2. THE OPTIC: an ocular/neural interface which replaces smart phones. This allows users to see virtual artifacts in their natural field of vision, introducing augmented and virtual reality into the physical world. 3. ORGANIC FISSION: a 100% sustainable energy source of spurious detail, which harvests powerful energy from "organic sources" (which are later revealed to be living humans who are disintegrated at the atomic level). The whole of the narrative focuses on the launch event for THE AUGMENT, which is the technology which finally allows man to merge with AI and become immortal. The event takes place at OMNI City (former Ankara, Turkey) at the OMNI Tower, a massive, 3km spire which is humanity's greatest architectural achievement. The tower "floats" 200 meters above the ground, and is a luxury resort/event venue. It is also lined with LED screen-projectors on every surface of its interior, making it a completely customizable virtual/physical environment. OMNI has engineered the singularity, unbeknownst to the public, with the help of "voices" from the other side (Extra-terrestrial entities which are the sources of the tech innovations). OMNI's trust in these entities proves to be disastrous… After the announcement of THE AUGMENT, the response at the event is euphoric. But, as the event proceeds, things take a dark turn. Without the fear of the ultimate consequence (death), the true, dark nature of man becomes evident. Violence and anarchy begin to spread like yeast through dough. At the launch party in the OMNI Tower, the massive festival event turns into a violent, murderous riot of disturbing proportions. The story culminates with the narrator inviting a malicious "AI" (spirit) into his body, setting off a chain-reaction of unimaginable horror on a massive scale. Ultimately, the tower, and its inhabitants, are doomed, as the singularity does not go as planned, destroying all involved, serving as a warning to humanity for what lies ahead. We had the pleasure of interviewing Sam Tinnesz over Zoom video! Nashville hitmaker Sam Tinnesz has recently released his pop rock project There Goes The Neighborhood. The single, "Spaced Out" featuring Nick Wheeler of the All-American Rejects is an anthem for all those who are tired of having an on-and-off again, complicated relationship status. Interview with Eloise
We had the pleasure of interviewing Eloise over Zoom video! 23-year-old London-based singer-songwriter Eloise releases her debut album Drunk On A Flight via AWAL, available everywhere now! Branching out beyond the soft, jazz-tinged soul of her early work, Drunk On A Flight sees Eloise broadening her horizons and applying her pop nous to a much wider palette of sounds. It is a coming of age album about embracing the moment; a heartbreak record that empowers listeners to luxuriate in their feelings –however messy or complicated they may be. Eloise's timelessness, vulnerability, and whip-smart lyrics effortlessly captivate the attention of listeners. The album's title track and first single, "Drunk On A Flight," is a breezy pop anthem that puts Eloise's natural songwriting abilities at the forefront, the song tells the tale of a love gone sour. "Giant Feelings" details the complicated, messy emotions that Eloise is trying to confront following the end of her relationship. The accompanying music video, directed by Tess Lafia and shot in one take, sees Eloise lamenting over her past relationship while looking out over the city of Los Angeles and ruefully hoping it rains on her former partner. Eloise shows her cleverness and songwriting prowess in the third single, "Therapist," a whip-smart, sorry-not-sorry "diss track" skewering emotional codependency with kiss-offs like, "you're acting like a boy but I fell for a man." As Cool Hunting said, Eloise has a true talent for making "expressive, absorbing pop." The focus track of the album, "I Take It Back," circles back to the flight mentioned in the album's opener. It's an upbeat, catchy track that details the back-and-forth emotions of a confusing relationship and Eloise reassuring the subject that in case her plane crashes, she takes back the negative things she's said. The visualizer for the new track provides a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the new record. The album follows two critically-acclaimed EPs, This Thing Called Living (2019) and Eloise's latest project Somewhere In-Between that The Line of Best Fit notes something only "a deft songwriter could manifest." On October 7th, Eloise will kick off her North American tour at The Foundry in Philadelphia, PA. The 19-date tour spans across both coasts with stops at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles and Thalia Hall in Chicago and will conclude on November 3rd at Webster Hall in New York City. Eloise leaned into her long standing love of pure pop and the sense of liberation she was experiencing being single for the first time in four years as inspiration for the album. She challenged herself to continue writing every single day, quickly amassing a pool of more than 50 songs, from which she assembled Drunk On A Flight with South London producer Conor Albert. The resulting record is a deep dive into the complexities of love and relationships, inspired both by observed experiences and Eloise's own dating history. "Ending a long-term relationship at 23, you feel such a loss of time and adolescence and that can make you so frustrated," she explains. "What have I learned from all of this? And what am I stuck with at the end of all of this? My songwriting has always been honest, but this feels raw –like I'm exploring all the shades of emotion." We want to hear from you! Interview with Bury Tomorrow
We had the pleasure of interviewing Bury Tomorrow over Zoom video! It's never too late to be what you might have been. Sometimes you just need a push to take the plunge. Few people would be greater advocates for this truth than Bury Tomorrow. Faced 18 months ago, following a period of external and internal strife, with the very real reality that it might be time to pack up their successes and close the book on a storied career of 15 years, with their hands forced and backs to the wall Bury Tomorrow instead picked up fate's gauntlet and set about writing the chapter they had always imagined. The Seventh Sun stands as testament to the bonds and belief required to shape themselves a new reality, a new sound, and a new future. Refocused yet no more restrained, the album's expanded sonic palette platforms sky-high melodies, layered with textured atmosphere, cloaking an underlying savagery. The thematic threads weaved through The Seventh Sun are met in kind by a throughline that musically stitches together each of its 12 tracks — an idea that guitarist Kristan Dawson has sought to execute for years. "Every single song sets up the next part of the record," he reveals. "I wanted it to feel like a one long body of work." In doing so, the album takes on its own kind its own sonic story-telling. "I feel like I was musically at where Dan was at lyrically," Dawson suggests. All of this combines, as Winter-Bates asserts, to exhibit "the best version of Bury Tomorrow people will have heard." Positivity, and possibility, now seems boundless, where not so long ago doubts persisted. "That is as much to do with Tom (Prendergast — keys/vocals) and Ed (Hartwell — guitar) joining the band as it is about the rest of us," Dawson notes. "I think we'd convinced ourselves at times that we weren't friends, when actually, we're family. You can't have this sort of life experience and not be and not be as emotionally connected to each other as we are." The guitarist points to the album's numerical title, saying, "You know, there is something in the number seven that is very representative of change. There's a renewal aspect to it — seven days in a week, seven hells, and so forth. And on our seventh album, that's the case for us, too. I hope fans hear how much we appreciate the opportunity we have to make music for them. It's an opportunity for us to showcase our love for, put our stamp on, and represent UK metal. What a privilege that is for us, and we're ready to prove that we're doing everything for those right reasons." We want to hear from you! Interview with Matt Corby
We had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Corby over Zoom video! Matt Corby recently released his new album Everything's Fine, via Communion. His first album in five years, Everything's Fine vividly captures the personal and creative growth of Matt Corby who, like many, was tipped belly side up recently. Beyond the global touring pause, on the day he was meant to start recording his new album, Corby and his family were instead rescued by a neighbor. Their home had been engulfed by the flood waters that raged through Queensland and New South Wales, Australia, in early 2022. After nervously watching his heavily pregnant partner and young son be whisked away in a small inflatable dinghy, he got to work ferrying provisions to stranded locals and digging rotting mud out from beneath his home. With their home inundated by floodwaters, the whole family moved into Corby's Rainbow Valley Studios during the album's recording process. Juggling familial responsibilities with his creative pursuits was a one-of-a-kind pressure cooker circumstance that galvanized his artistic evolution. Firmly fixed on seeing the best of things, Matt reveals "I'm at a really beautiful point in my life. I'm accepting all this stuff: the good and the bad, but particularly the bad. Which is kind of great. It's a good thing to come to that point. Life isn't always magical, but the moments that are, well you really value them. I think this record is about that, about managing your actual reality. Sometimes I have those moments when you realize: well I'm still breathing, you still have the gift of life, so everything is fine I guess?" About Matt Corby: Recorded at his Rainbow Valley Studios with Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Middle Kids, Skegss), Matt Corby's third studio album Everything's Fine picks up where his 2020 stand-alone singles, "If I Never Say A Word" and "Vitamin" left off after his J Award-winning 2018 LP Rainbow Valley. In the time since, Matt announced the launch of his own independent record label, in between loaning his production expertise to work by Genesis Owusu, Jack River, Great Gable, Bud Rokesky and most recently, his award-winning collaboration with Budjerah. Interview with Scarlet Parke
We had the pleasure of interviewing Scarlet Parke over Zoom video! Singer, songwriter and self-made producer, Scarlet Parke, releases her latest single, "369,". Performed exclusively for Grammy.com last year, "369" showcases a combination of Scarlet's confident writing ability, strong production skills, and commanding vocals. Scarlet elaborates; "369 is a manifestation practice I like to do that includes writing down a mantra 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the afternoon, and 9 times at night. I've manifested some amazing things since I started doing it." A single that Scarlet has named the heart of her upcoming album, Simulation, "369" is all about manifestation. Alongside songwriting, Scarlet has also found herself being an advocate for females in the industry. "Did you know 2% of women are producers?" Scarlet elaborates on her creative process; "I've been holding onto some of the songs on my upcoming album for as long as 9 years. I've just been searching for the right producer, and it was me the whole time. It's been a journey and I really want to talk about how important it is that women support each other more than ever. There's nothing like the freedom that I've felt producing my own music. I didn't really know how anxious I was all the time going into the studio with a bunch of random people. Now that I'm self producing, I don't have to worry about booking time or dealing with studio fees. I can create whenever and wherever I feel safe and inspired to make my music" Scarlet's passion for self-producing has led her to discover a community of women that want to learn these skills for themselves. She has taken it into her own hands by creating "Dreamgirl by Scarlet," a website that includes exclusive digital resources and opportunities with links to music gear and coaching sessions and the Dreamgirl Shop. As part of this initiative, Scarlet has launched the "Dreamgirl Producer Bag," available for purchase here. The Dreamgirl Producer Bag was designed with the intention to help artists create freely, whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. Scarlet's mission is to empower more girls to produce and help close the 98% gap between male and female producers. "This first started because I wanted to release resources to share my knowledge and talk about how I got started producing. I think it's important to talk about the mental hurdles around it along with the physical process of it. I've put together a producer starter pack of items that I have in my own kit. It's totally portable and I can produce anywhere, whether that be in nature or on top of a building. Wherever you want to be, wherever you're inspired, you can take that with you. That's what Dreamgirl is, a place to feel encouraged to do things your own way." Scarlet states. Hailing from Port Orchard, WA, Scarlet has been paving her own way into the entertainment world for the past decade. Scarlet grew up singing in musicals, church, and has been trained professionally in Opera, jazz, and Pop. In the background of all that, Scarlet has always loved writing lyrics, but didn't start her own band until after high school. After gaining experience by playing around her hometown, Scarlet decided to move to Seattle and catapult herself into becoming a household name in the local music scene. Once Covid hit, Scarlet honed in on some untapped talents; teaching herself how to produce, edit videos, and further practice her live show stage presence. Scarlet is a force in the industry and has continued to define her own rules for the artist she wants to be. We want to hear from you!
