Interview with Maggie Lindemann
We had the pleasure of interviewing Maggie Lindemann over Zoom video! Coming less than a month after her first release of 2020, pop favorite Maggie Lindemann is back with a new track in "GASLIGHT! (feat. Siiickbrain)." Maggie also announced the January 22, 2021 release of her debut EP Paranoia, which will arrive via Caroline Records and her own label, swixxzaudio. "'GASLIGHT!' is a song about taking back the power after someone has tried to gaslight and manipulate you. It's a big F+++ off to that person….HA! This song was written so quickly and was really a freestyle between myself and Caroline (siiickbrain). This song was super cathartic to write and sing," says Maggie of the track. "GASLIGHT! (feat. Siiickbrain)" is the continuation of Maggie's growth as an artist – it's a pop-infused rock track that lets both artists shine. Its release coincides with the unveiling of new limited edition merchandise on shopmaggielindemann.com. Items include face masks, crop t-shirts, hoodies, t-shirts, trucker hats, dad hats and more. Since her 2015 debut, Maggie Lindemann has quietly emerged as one of pop's most subversive forces. Without a filter, her uncompromising approach drove the breakout single "Pretty Girl" to platinum status and over 1 billion streams. Maggie followed that success with anthems such as "Obsessed" (64.6 million Spotify streams) and "Couple of Kids" (38.3 million Spotify streams). 2019 capped off with "Friends Go" [feat. Travis Barker], which Ones To Watch described as "an electrifying, almost retro pop track." 2019 also brought a scare in Malaysia with immigration (she wound up in jail, on house arrest and standing trial twice—due to a visa issue). The experience proved life changing as upon her return to the US, Maggie turned her feelings towards more new music. At that point, she held absolutely nothing back in the studio and created her forthcoming EP. Along the way, she also successfully launched her SWIXXZ clothing line and recently introduced her own podcast, swixxzaudio which helped Maggie combat the lonliness of quarantine. At 22 years of age, Maggie has truly uncovered her voice as a songwriter and injected a fierce dose of honesty regarding anxieties, obsessions, and insecurities into her new material. Her most recent track "Knife Under My Pillow" has already amassed over a million streams since its recent release. Idolator said of the song "Maggie Lindemann makes a welcome return to the New Music Friday lineup with a winning pop/rock experiment." We want to hear from you! Interview with Adam Sanders
We had the pleasure of interviewing Adam Sanders over Zoom video! Raw talent is essential for an artist to develop a successful career, but a strong sense of identity is just as crucial. Adam Sanders possesses both. In a day and time where budding entertainers can be shaken by numerous factors from social media critics to music industry gatekeepers, it takes a special caliber of person to know what's truly important to them and, even more difficult, to hold fast to those values. The proof is in the listening of Sanders' latest release, "Ruled The World," which features seven of his fellow singer-songwriters along with a music video that stars his musical heroes Tracy Lawrence, Aaron Tippin and Shenandoah's Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire. Faith, Family, Music, the Outdoors and Fitness are the pillars Sanders' life revolves around and he has discovered those are priorities for many of the folks he's singing to as well. "I've grown a lot in the past year, and I thought, 'Who am I, really?' I always thought of myself as an everyday guy, but different than the guy on stage," he says of reconciling his public and private personas. "I've learned over the last year that that guy off stage needs to be the same guy on stage so it's real. I want to be relatable and I want to be me in every area of my life. Fans can see when it's not real, and I'm happier and more successful when I am not pretending to be something I'm not." A native of Lake City, FL, Sanders knew at an early age that music would be his life. "My mom likes to say I could sing before I could talk," says the avid outdoorsman and fitness fanatic. "I've got tons of pictures of me dressed up in a cowboy hat, boots and jeans because I idolized Alan Jackson very early on and envisioned him as my hero." Most of Sanders' family had musical talent, especially his uncle Scotty Sanders, a professional steel guitar player, who encouraged his nephew's dream. After honing his skills performing around northern Florida, Sanders moved to Nashville in 2009. He worked construction to pay the bills while developing his chops as a songwriter. His skills caught the attention of executives at Big Yellow Dog who signed him to a publishing deal. Sanders first found success in Nashville as a songwriter, penning songs for Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and Tyler Farr, among others. One of Music Row's hottest young songwriters, Sanders has topped the charts with such No. 1 singles as Cole Swindell's "Ain't Worth the Whiskey" and Dustin Lynch's "Hell of a Night." He honed his craft hanging out with pals like Swindell, Farr, Jon Pardi, Chase Rice and Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, and became like a younger brother to a group of hit-bound young talents on the cusp of success. Sanders learned how to craft a song that was right in the pocket for country radio. He then embarked on his artist career, quickly earning a reputation as an up and comer to watch as he independently sold over 70,000 singles and scored over 70 million Spotify streams. Yet Sanders admits his early efforts weren't truly synonymous with who he really is as a person. "I started feeling like a puppet just trying to chase what labels thought I needed to sound like and so I finally just stepped back," he says. "I've found what I'm not and I know what I am. For a while, I tried to run from being country and there's no way you can take that away from me because it's the way I grew up. And I never took a guitar lesson. I never took vocal lessons. Everything that I've done at this point is through just hard work and dedication." Self-examination led to Sanders focusing on what is truly important to him and what he wants to say to his growing audience. He started that foundation in his 2018 self-titled, debut EP which peaked at No. 33 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. In releasing new music in 2019 and now 2020, Adam continues to lay the groundwork for what is destine to be the perfect pendulum swing from the s --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bringinbackpod/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bringin-it-backwards--4972373/support. https://bringinitbackwards.com/

Interview with Luna Aura
We had the pleasure of interviewing Luna Aura over Zoom video! Genre-bending alternative powerhouse Luna Aura is hell bent on paving her own path. The triple threat singer, songwriter, and producer has shared stages with some of music's biggest names, including: The Killers, K.Flay, Muse, Weezer, Garbage, P!nk, Odesza, and more. Her new EP titled "THREE CHEERS FOR THE AMERICAN BEAUTY" is out now! Cheers to the little girl who grows up to be everything she's designed to be. Physically perfect, met with apparent effortlessness. She's manageable (yet sociable), sexy (but not slutty), sporty (but still feminine), intelligent (but not too outspoken), a refined lady (especially one who knows how to please). The little girl who grows up to be the woman who plays every role you need her to play, exactly as you need her to play it; and not without a smile on her face. This project isn't about that girl. This project is about the other girls, and for all girls. That means the ones that don't really care if you like their hair, or whether or not you think they're agreeable. The ones who refuse to believe their purpose is to be gentle and subservient. I developed this project for all the girls, trying to survive in a patriarchal society that consistently enforces a mindset designed to keep them from reaching their true potential. A society that is devoted to skillfully conditioning and silencing women, as well as criminalizing their ambition. All in the form of accessorized dolls, distorted advertisements, drippy rom-coms, and even our own president's rhetoric. These songs, stories, and art pieces were created for those who are done asking for the world's consideration. The ones who demand, with fire in their bellies, to be treated as individuals of worth. Not because of the way they look or their ability to please, but because of their intellect, their professional and creative achievements, and their power to lead. This project is inspired by and dedicated to all the vigorous females in my life. The the ones who aren't worried about kicking down the door, or breaking the ceiling, because they're too busy lighting the match that's going to burn the whole fucking place to the ground. If that's you, welcome. If it's not, pay attention. This is the world of the American Beauties. Stories written by women, for everyone. Each one inspired by true events, with each character personifying a pressure that is placed on young women living in America. The songs you will hear work in tandem as the soundtrack to our defiance, and our vision. In this world, there is no room for politeness or civility, but plenty of room to make you question your involvement. We're not here to blame you, we're not here to scare you. We're here to make you think.. We want to hear from you! Introduction: From their very first drumbeat, through to the release of '[Forward Ever Backward Never]' – their '20 Years' commemorating longplayer, Cosmic Gate's Nic Chagall and Bossi have proved to be a matchless musical union. A chance encounter in a Cologne recording studio two decades ago set them on the course to becoming Germany's most enduringly successful electronic music duo. Their original productions have taken them to the highest reaches of streaming lists and download charts, whilst their remixography eclectically includes everyone from revered Hollywood composers like James Horner (Avatar/Titanic) to in-scene demigods like Armin van Buuren and Tiësto. Nic & Bossi's behind-decks-brotherhood has triggered critical mass in a now uncountable number of countries. They've dominated electronic music capitals and spun at the veritable A-through-Z of major festivals. In the process they've picked up a Grammy nomination (in 2019's Best Remix category), become the highest climber on DJ Mag's Top 100 chart and racked up numerous other awards & nominations along the way. Driven by their critically applauded albums, Spotify-busting singles like 'am2pm', 'Fall Into You' and 'Falling Back' (each with 5million streams to their name) and scene-defining classics like 'Be Your Sound', 'Fire Wire' and 'Exploration of Space' (10million Spotify streams), their star on dance music's walk of fame has long since been laid. Their WMC/MMW Miami Sunset Cruises have long since passed into clubbing legend and the pair famously sold out a 2000 capacity solo show on the island of Honolulu. Grammy nomination: the final month of 2018 Nic & Bossi were nominated for their first Grammy award. Selected in the Best Remixer category, their work on Gabriel & Dresden and Sub Teal's 'Only Road' from a year earlier drew nomination praise from the academy. The remix was further described by DJ Mag as "masterful", with "alchemic sequencing", "shrewd use of context" and was "wily" in its "sound design" C.G. Productions & Albums: In their homeland, Cosmic Gate has maintained a consistently high level of mainstream success, charting no fewer than 7 top 40 singles. Further afield 'Fire Wire' signalled the pair's arrival, becoming a pan-European chart smash and hitting the top ten in a number of countries. Albums have, and continue to play a substantial part in their production career. Most recently that's been evidenced by '20 Years', which was released in August --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bringinbackpod/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bringin-it-backwards--4972373/support. https://bringinitbackwards.com/

Interview with Model Child
We had the pleasure of interviewing Model Child over Zoom video! Model Child is the project of LA-based songwriter and musician Danny Parker. Best known for writing songs for some of the most successful pop radio artists of this era (Britney Spears, Shawn Mendes, Nick Jonas, Jessie Ware and more) as well as working with acclaimed indie acts Surfbort, Claud, Hatchie, and Dave Sitek. Drawing on influences like Le Tigre, of Montreal, and The Prodigy, Parker fuses in-your-face punk sensibilities with razor-sharp pop craftsmanship to create raw, honest, and darkly playful dance-punk anthems. Growing up in Northern Virginia, Parker split his time between friends' garage bands and the school marching band, developing an eclectic taste for both wild DIY jams and tight theatrical productions -- dueling elements on full display at Model Child's rousing live shows, which feature costumes, props, and thrilling onstage antics. This energy permeates Parker's music, which showcases his cutting sense of humor as he turns private experiences into political commentary. Dropout marks the first time audiences will get an in-depth study of the true artist behind the pen. An artful, aggressive, and accessible collection of smartly crafted and catchy-as-hell guitar jams, Model Child is what happens when a punk who knows his way around a pop song seizes the chance to return to his artistic roots to tell his unique story, all while taking on the absurd conventions of these times in his emphatic own way. Interview with Josey Greenwell
We had the pleasure of interviewing Josey Greenwell over Zoom video! NYC-based pop artist-on-the-rise, Josey Greenwell, is exclusively premiering his brand new single, "Bottle Rocket" via Aesthetic Magazine! "Bottle Rocket" comes off of Greenwell's forthcoming full-length album, City Games, slated to be released later this year. "I wrote this track on an airplane in my head. It's funny because I kept getting up to go to the bathroom so I could record voice notes so I wouldn't forget the melody (sorry to my flight neighbors!). This song is about trying to figure out what it takes to get the person you're in love with to realize it," shares Greenwell. Growing up in Kentucky, a passion for music led Greenwell to Nashville in pursuit of a career as a singer/songwriter. After years of honky-tonks and unfulfilled wishes, he set the guitar down ad turned to his next love, fitness, and made the move to the Big Apple. Now, as one of the city's most prominent fitness instructors, his love for music and songwriting prevails as he steps back into his artistry rhythm and gears up to release his first full-length album in over a decade. Fueled with city inspiration and slick pop production, the sound behind the upcoming record, City Games, is almost as surprising as Greenwell's return. We want to hear from you! Interview with Eliot Bronson
We had the pleasure of interviewing Eliot Bronson over Zoom video! Over the course of five albums, indie folksinger Eliot Bronson has created his own brand of acclaimed Americana. He's an award winner. A road warrior. An internationally-renowned musician with a voice that swoons and sweeps, making fans out of everyone from his hometown newspaper, The Baltimore Sun — who championed Bronson from the very start, hailing him as "a folk singing wunderkind" back when he was still playing local coffeeshops — to Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb, whose work on 2014's Eliot Bronson and 2017's James placed Bronson on the same client roster as Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, and other heartfelt songwriters. Bronson turns a new page with Empty Spaces. Written during a period of tumult — including the breakup of a 10-year relationship, the end of an engagement, and a move from his adopted home of Atlanta to his current headquarters in Nashville — it's an album about loss, redemption, the places we leave, and the homes we make for ourselves. More importantly, it's an album about starting again. Like the soundtrack to a rainy day whose skies steadily give way to sunshine, the music itself is gorgeous and moodily atmospheric, splashed with watercolor streaks of electric guitar, vocal harmonies, strings, Mellotron, and Bronson's sharpest songwriting to date. Ever since his teenage years in working-class Baltimore, music has been a source of therapy for Bronson. Back then, he felt like a prisoner in his own home — a home filled with volatility and unpredictability, overseen by parents whose identities were equally (and, perhaps, paradoxically) informed by the Church and 1960s counterculture. Outside the front door loomed the Pentecostal Church where his father and grandfather once preached to congregants who spoke in tongues. It was an odd refuge for a child, and Bronson found his own sort of escape in his father's record collection, drawn to LPs by Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and the trailblazing blues duo of Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry. Inspired, he began writing his own music as a teenager, eventually those songwriting skills into a career — and, with it, a ticket out of town. Relocating to Atlanta, he found a regional audience as a member of popular folk-rock duo The Brilliant Inventions and became a regular performer at Eddie's Attic, where acts like John Mayer and the Indigo Girls once honed their own craft. His subsequent solo career attracted even more attention, not to mention high-profile awards like a first-place finish in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. When a longtime relationship with his fiancé came to a halt, though, Bronson found himself leaning upon songwriting once again — not only for a living, but also for personal stability. "I began writing the kind of songs I needed to hear," he explains. "Empty Spaces was the best healing work I could've ever done. I had a weird, challenging childhood, and I originally turned to music because I didn't have anywhere else to go in the house, physically. I made my own little world that made me feel safe and understood. This time, I really needed to find that space again and come full-circle. I made this record for the same reason that I wrote my first song. It wasn't for anybody else; it was for me. Hearing the right words at the right moment can be the most magical elixir you can possibly take. It can heal you." To fully heal, though, Bronson needed to make some changes. He left Atlanta and moved to Nashville. He made the conscious decision to escape the shadow of his influences, too, writing a new batch of songs that sounded not like Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, or Tom Waits, but like Eliot Bronson. He sank more time into his daily meditation practice, allowing creativity to enter his life in waves. And after recording his two previous albums with renowned producer Dave Cobb, he also decided to co-produce the new record with longtime bandmate --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bringinbackpod/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bringin-it-backwards--4972373/support. https://bringinitbackwards.com/

Interview with Zach Heckendorf
We had the pleasure of interviewing Zach Heckendorf over Zoom video! Zach Heckendorf started playing the guitar and writing songs as a 10 year old growing up in Denver, Colorado (he wrote his first composition about the Great Depression while in fourth grade). With school friends, he played in rock bands, but by his mid-teens he was playing local shows, both solo and with rhythm sections. At 16, he released his first recording, an eponymous EP, that "blew things up for me in Denver." By the time college beckoned at 18, Heckendorf was offered a deal with Republic Records, so he put his studies on hold. Heckendorf's style and sound underscores his omnivorous musical tastes and influences. His fluid, contrapuntal guitar playing draws from years cutting his teeth on the work of Jack Johnson and Jose Gonzalez. "When I started out, I played a lot of solo shows, so I had to be my own one-man band," Heckendorf explains. But he also has the edginess and tuneful sensibilities of pop-punk bands he grew up on: Blink-182, Green Day, and Sum 41. "They were the big ones for me when I was a teenager, so they're in my blood." Lyrically, his work offers a treasure of feelings – there's both keen observation and heartfelt introspection – that recalls master songwriters like James Taylor, Paul Simon and Carole King. Yet Heckendorf explains that he draws inspiration from hip-hop artists like Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Aesop Rock (whom he's been known to cover onstage). "I soaked up songcraft from classic artists because they're in the air, but these days I think that the best poets are in hip-hop," he says. "So while my music can play in the pop space, lyrically I'm coming from the complexity of hip-hop." He also counts himself a fan of Charlie XCX, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas. "They're making some of the best intelligent pop these days." Since releasing his self-titled debut album at age 16, Heckendorf has released a series of critical and fan-favorites: The Cool Down, Speed Checked by Aircraft, Artifacts and an EP titled Up. He's toured the U.S. extensively as a headliner and has supported artists such as Rodrigo y Gabriela, John Butler Trio and Rogue Wave as well as Michael Franti and Spearhead at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
