Interview with Dana Dentata

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Dana Dentata over Zoom video! Canadian-born musician Dana Dentata has shared a brand-new single, "Do U Like Me Now?" which is available today on all streaming platforms. "Do U Like Me Now?" marks Dana Dentata's first new music of 2020 and previews her forthcoming debut album, Pantychrist. Expected to arrive next year, Dana Dentata has been finalizing work on Pantychrist, collaborating in the studio with artists / producers: Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs, Kris Esfandiari of King Woman / Miserable, Robokid, Yawns and Fish Narc of GothBoiClique, and more. Recently, Dana Dentata announced her signing with Roadrunner Records, becoming the first female solo artist signed to the label, and shared the performance art film, 'The Resurrection of Dana Dentata.' Conceptualized and directed by Dentata, the 20-minute piece captures her as she carves through performances of tracks from her 2019 EP Daddy Loves You, as well as brand-new material with an unapologetically raw expression of sexual power. Additionally, Dana Dentata is set to feature in the genre busting horror / musical podcast, Halloween In Hell, which will premiere October 10th via all podcast platforms. With her brazen rhymes and authoritative flows, Dana Dentata has gained distinction for being equal parts empowering and provocative. By pairing her unapologetically sexual lyrics with production that is just as menacing, Dentata creates liberating, femme-centric hip-hop. A native of Toronto, Canada, she grew up inspired by artists ranging from Britney Spears and Hole, to Marilyn Manson and Eminem. At the end of 2019, Dentata performed at Los Angeles' Rolling Loud Festival and released her EP, 'Daddy Loves You.' Dana recently took part in Machine Gun Kelly and Audio Up's four-part scripted Halloween musical HALLOWEEN IN HELL, which has hit 500K+ streams since it's October 19th debut. The podcast and soundtrack stars Machine Gun Kelly, Tommy Lee, Dana Dentata, 24kGoldn, iann dior, and PHEM – who contributes vocals to a few tracks. The new three-track bundle includes "In Hell It's Always Halloween Remix" featuring iann dior and PHEM, "Just Us Two" featuring Dana Dentata, and "Watch Me" featuring BigKlit. These tracks were released through Sony Music RECORDS and Audio Up Music, and are available now through all digital and streaming platforms. HALLOWEEN IN HELL's finale episode was released on Friday, October 30th, with its final tracks set to drop on Friday, November 13th. The series will be accompanied by a four-part making-of documentary to be released as bonus content. Stay tuned for more. About HALLOWEEN IN HELL: A scripted horror musical podcast, just in time for Halloween. Rock legend Tommy Lee stars as the Devil, featuring original music and performances by Machine Gun Kelly, iann dior, Dana Dentata, PHEM, and 24kGoldn. On Halloween, Satan lures three performers to his sadistic game show in Hell where they must perform or die. The winner returns to Earth. The losers will play out their showbiz careers in fiery hellfire and damnation. About Audio Up: Audio Up CEO Jared Gutstadt explains, "Halloween, much like other major holidays, deserves its own entertainment tent pole. While a lot of people focus on Christmas, Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, we really believe that Halloween is an undersurface time of year for folks to enjoy original content. I was always a fan of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and 'Nightmare Before Christmas,' and we believe we're creating an evergreen franchise that will allow us to unlock new stories every year with original music, possibly ending up in the realm of live or visual content. Machine Gun Kelly was an extremely logical and obvious partner for us. His brand pairs well with the season." https://www.danadentata.com/https://www.instagram.com/danadentata/?hl=enhttps://twitter.com/danadentata?lang=enhttps://www.facebook.com/danadentata/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bringinbackpod/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bringin-it-backwards--4972373/support. https://bringinitbackwards.com/

Interview with Christian Kuria

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Christian Kuria over Zoom video! Christian Kuria is a Kenyan-American producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Vallejo, CA. Christian Kuria first attracted internet attention in 2016 as a Hip Hop and R&B guitarist. Soon after, he began to incorporate the essence of his guitar playing into fully-produced covers. This led the multi-faceted singer and instrumentalist towards composing and producing his own original music. In late 2019, Christian made his US touring debut as support for the critically acclaimed writer, producer, and singer, Cautious Clay. Now, after a year of writing, Christian has released his debut project "Borderline" (Executive production, creative direction, and release by Arime Records). We want to hear from you! Interview with Missio

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Missio over Zoom video! "Missio" is Latin for mission. And what at one time began as a side project for singersongwriter Matthew Brue has now shifted into the main mission. Accompanied by producer and instrumentalist David Butler, MISSIO sports an alternative/electronic sound with beatdriven hip-hop undertones. Atmospheric and expressive, this electro-alternative act is keen on a spirit of experimentation. Based in Austin, Texas, MISSIO broke out in 2017 with their single "Middle Fingers" which reached top 10 at U.S. Alternative Radio, later leading to an appearance on the late night's CONAN amid the launch of their debut album Loner. That same album also spawned heavily rotated songs like "Bottom of the Deep Blue Sea," "Everybody Gets High," and "Twisted," which all reached over 50 million streams each (and counting) on streaming platforms. MISSIO released their second album The Darker the Weather // The Better the Man in mid 2019, broadening their sonic palette with songs like "I See You" which was the #1 song on the Sirius XM Alt 18 for 9 total weeks. During this album campaign, their streaming audience tripled and they capped off their album cycle by releasing the single "Sing to Me" as part of the soundtrack to the global video game phenomenon Death Stranding alongside artists such as Chvrches, Major Lazer, Khalid, & Bring Me the Horizon. The band decided to document their creative process and personal growth during the recording process of this album, and ended up also releasing a documentary with accompanying soundtrack which they wrote and scored titled Love Me Whole. MISSIO has now accumulated close to one billion streams within three years and two album releases. Beginning the next stage in their music evolution, Matthew and David landed back in their home base of Austin, Texas this past November with their producer, co-writer, and creative partner Dwight Baker, and over a feverish 21 day period wrote and recorded the entirety of their new album, Can You Feel The Sun (via 2B Recordings / BMG). The band started with a range of demos that eventually snowballed into being a complete and finished full-length album. "We worked until we felt like we were done and then one day woke up and knew we had a finished album", says David. "Even from the very beginning of the process I already knew that 'Can You Feel the Sun' was one of the best songs we'd ever written and knew that we had something special." MISSIO have toured the United States extensively as headliners, and through several large support slots for the likes of MUSE, 30 Seconds to Mars, Yungblud, and K. Flay. The duo have also performed at major festivals like Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly, Hangout, Bottle Rock, and Voodoo Fest. As part of a wider European tour, they made their sold-out UK live debut at London's Old Blue Last in May 2019. Their high energy live performances and custom-built light shows easily set them apart from their peers. MISSIO returned overseas in early March 2020, but the second half of their European tour was cancelled as the band were pulled off their tour bus at 2AM whilst crossing the Czech border, so that men in hazmat suits could check their temperatures to ensure that the touring party didn't have COVID-19. They raced to get home on the final day before the U.S. borders were closed. Regardless of not being able to tour for the rest of the year, the band have decided to forge ahead with releasing their new music. They put out first single "Wolves" on June 24, which reached #1 on the Sirius XM Alt Nation 'Top 18' within three weeks. This is their 4th #1 single on the countdown to date. Interview with Cristian Machado

Together with American Songwriter we had the pleasure of interviewing Cristian Machado over Zoom video! Cristian Machado, the godfather of Latin metal, best known for his tenure as lead vocalist for ill niño, released his debut solo album, "Hollywood y Sycamore" on Chesky Records. The album sees Machado abandon the screams and screeching guitars in favor of his Latin influences and transcendent bilingual songwriting. Hollywood y Sycamore includes completely new original songs (led by ethereal single "Die Alone"), new arrangements of some previous ill niño songs ("How Can I Live", "Numb"), and covers from Pink Floyd ("Welcome to the Machine"), Life of Agony ("Weeds"), and a spell-binding take on Post Malone's "Blame It On Me". Hollywood y Sycamore serves as the re-launch for Chesky sub-label, Coconut Bay, which sees a departure from the single mic style live recording Chesky Records is known for and combines elements of live recording with the added impact layering provides, all captured in digital high resolution. Interview with The Cranberries

Together with American Songwriter we had the pleasure of interviewing Noel Hogan and Fergal Lawler of The Cranberries over Zoom video! Island Records/UMe are proud to announce the release of remastered and expanded versions of No Need to Argue by The Cranberries on November 13, 2020. Originally released in 1994, No Need To Argue was the band's biggest selling album with global sales in excess of 17 million and contained the band's most commercially successful single "Zombie." The video for "Zombie" has since been viewed over 1 billion times on YouTube, making The Cranberries the only Irish band to pass this milestone and putting them in a very small club of artists to do so. Dolores O'Riordan - the band's powerful and captivating lead singer - tragically passed away in January 2018. The expanded 2CD and digital versions of No Need To Argue include a remaster of the album and three B-sides: "Away," "I Don't Need," and "So Cold In Ireland" from the original tapes. Also included are 19 previously unreleased tracks including two songs not officially released in any format: "Yesterday's Gone" - recorded unplugged for MTV in New York in 1995 - and a demo of "Serious," which until now has only existed as a low quality live bootleg on YouTube. The 2CD edition features previously unseen photographs taken from the album photo sessions. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Ali Tabatabaee of Zebrahead and Fear No Empire over Zoom video! At the height of the 2020 global pandemic and social unrest, while millions of people are quarantining at home or risking their health and safety by taking to the streets in protest, Fear No Empire has come together with a powerful message that further shines a light on injustice and calls for change. Fear No Empire is Ali Tabatabaee - Vocals (zebrahead,) Ben Ozz - Bass (zebrahead,) Dan Palmer - Guitar (zebrahead, Death By Stereo,) and Mike Cambra - Drums (The Adolescents, Death by Stereo and Common War.) Interview with Bloodbather

Together with American Songwriter we had the pleasure of interviewing Bloodbather over Zoom video! Broward County, Florida-based metal band Bloodbather — Kyler Millo [vocals, bass] and Salem Vex [guitar, synths] — released their new EP Silence via Rise Records. "'Silence' is about being manipulated for a long time and realizing it, but not really having the power to retaliate at the time, which then pressures you to become stronger to overcome this oppressive figure," Kyler shares about the uncompromisingly brutal track. Bloodbather were recently christened an "Artist You Need To Know" by Revolver, which lauded the band's ability to craft "nasty, gnarly metallic hardcore rendered all the more suffocating by layers of industrial texture" and featured them in a multi-page spread. Formed in 2018, Bloodbather stormed out of the gates with the independent EP Pressure. The release has since amassed 666k Spotify streams — how metal! — as the group built its live reputation by sharing the stage with everyone from Whitechapel to Carnifex to Of Mice & Men, and by appearing at the notable This Is Hardcore festival. Bloodbather enjoyed early praise from the tastemakers at Invisible Oranges, who stated that the band "swings their music like a battle-axe into naysayer faces, living up to their namesake with flying crimson colors." They earned additional acclaim from SVBTERRANEAN, which proclaimed them "one of the newer bands to embrace and reformulate the angst-ridden, chunky metalcore of old, and one of the newer bands to do it right." Bloodbather signed with Rise Records in 2019 and subsequently hit the studio in Tennessee alongside producer Tate Mercer [Better Off, Chamber, Hampton]. Armed with a take-no-prisoners approach and an EP that leaves an indelible mark, Bloodbather are on the verge of becoming one of heavy metal's next big things. The band will most certainly appeal to fans of Code Orange, Knocked Loose, and Vein. We want to hear from you! Interview with Jesse Ruben

We had the pleasure of interviewing Jesse Ruben over Zoom video! Jesse Ruben is a singer/songwriter currently living in Brooklyn. His songs have gotten more than a dozen placements in the US and abroad, and have been featured on shows like, "One Tree Hill", "Teen Mom", "Switched at Birth", "The Bachelor" (Germany), and the new Disney+ series, "Diary of a Future President". His last 3 albums have all reached the top 10 on the US iTunes singer/songwriter chart. The message that Jesse Ruben has been spreading through his music is simple and direct. I can. You can. We Can. When Jesse originally wrote his song "We Can", he had just run the NYC Marathon and hoped to inspire people to start running. As it turns out, his message was meant to be much more universal. A few months after he released the track, a Vancouver elementary school reached out, saying they had been playing it to inspire their students. They asked Jesse to fly in and perform the song for their school, and so began "The We Can Project", which now spreads across North America. Jesse began touring the country, visiting schools and helping students come up with personal goals and ways to give back to their community. Amazing things began to happen. Playgrounds were built. Gardens planted. Cancer walks organized. Just as things were taking off, life threw a curveball. Jesse had just headlined and sold out his entire East Coast tour and was writing new music when he became incredibly ill. It took 9 months and more than a dozen doctors before he got his diagnosis: Lyme Disease. Jesse was so sick, he didn't think he would ever play music or lead a normal life again. Suddenly, the message he had been spreading to students over the past year rang truer than ever before. I can do this. It took two full years to rebuild his health. It's an experience Jesse won't easily forget. In fact, it's changed his perspective on life and writing. Jesse had always wanted to inspire people through his music, but now has a mission and an even bigger message: No matter what you are going through, you're not alone, and it will get better. Now, he is healthy and more motivated than ever to build his career and pursue his dreams. One big dream came to fruition this year, as "The We Can Project" received national news coverage with a live performance by Jesse on The Today Show. And the dreaming doesn't stop there. Next year, Jesse will release his EP A Reply to Violence. The title is inspired by a Leonard Bernstein quote he stumbled upon on the side of a school while walking through the East Village. Interview with Saul

Together with American Songwriter we had the pleasure of interviewing SAUL over Zoom video! They turn the tables, defy expectations, and emerge victorious. The rise of SAUL resembles a classic underdog story. The band quietly clawed their way out of the Midwest and into the national limelight with six million-plus streams and the endorsement of tastemakers such as Revolver, Guitar World, Loudwire, and many more. The Iowa quartet - brothers Blake Bedsaul [lead vocals] and Zach Bedsaul [lead guitar, backup vocals], William McIlravy [bass, backup vocals], and Myles Clayborne [drums] - embody this timeless tale on their 2020 full-length debut, Rise As Equals [Spinefarm Records]. "Our approach was to completely come out swinging," exclaims Blake. "That was our main goal. We wrote each song like it was the last song we were going to write. We focused on lyrical content that would mean something to everybody who heard it. We harnessed this positive energy out of real-life experiences." As the story goes, SAUL steadily grinded it out since 2017. In between sharing stages with the likes of Bush, Fuel, 10 Years, HELLYEAH, and Nonpoint, the musicians sharpened a signature style. Sonically, the boys struck an elusive balance between jackhammering polyrhythmic guitars and sweeping melodies. During 2019, the four-piece independently launched "Brother" (dedicated to their late brother Caleb) to #1 on Sirius/XM Octane as it took over radio across the country. Within a year, it eclipsed 3.7 million Spotify streams and 1.3 million YouTube views. The group continued their momentum with the band's Aeons EP as "Trial By Fire" surpassed 870K Spotify streams and 190K YouTube views. Along the way, the musicians pieced together what would become Rise As Equals - only to endure tragedy once more. "Our mom was battling cancer at the time," says Blake. "She passed away last year. We were struggling in the studio while she was at home and our dad was trying to take care of her and work full-time. It was tough, for sure." However, SAUL made it through. In addition to "Brother" and "Trial By Fire," they will unleash "King Of Misery" as the lead radio single from their new album. The musicians co-wrote the track with Disturbed frontman and rock legend David Draiman over Zoom while in quarantine. A chugging riff snaps into clean verses before a hypnotic and hard-hitting hook. "The song is reflective of our dad when our mom was in hospice," he goes on. "He always joked, 'I'm the king of everything. This is my domain'. At that point, he was the king of his domain, but he was also the king of misery at the same time. I've been listening to Disturbed since middle school. When David said he was a fan of our band, it was totally mind-blowing. It was a dream come true and a blessing to work with him." The boys also teamed up with powerhouse songwriter Erik Ron [Godsmack, Issues, Sylar] on "Here And Now." Once again, detuned thrashing gives way to magnetic melodies "about rebuilding what we thought we were and starting over fresh." Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose hopped behind the throne for the syncopated shockwaves of "Inside," while "Looking To Fight" sounds a call-to-arms."When times were down and we weren't doing music, it was about my inner struggle being bitter at myself and my life," Blake states. "It's really personal. Zach and I agreed this would be our last hurrah if 'Brother' didn't hit. Thankfully, it did." Meanwhile, the title track transmits a message directly to the group's legion of fans affectionately referred to as "Equals." Glistening electronics and keys pierce through thudding grooves as Blake screams, "This is my time, these are my people, standing with pride, you are my equals." "It's a mantra for the crowd," he smiles. "It's such a good feeling. We wrote it specifically for our fans. We all fight together. We're all equals." In the end, SAUL stand for and with those equals forever. "Not only is this band a family, but all of --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bringinbackpod/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bringin-it-backwards--4972373/support. https://bringinitbackwards.com/

Interview with Verite

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing VÉRITÉ over Zoom video! A week after COVID-19 became a national emergency, VÉRITÉ decided to cancel a sold-out, headlining North American tour. Plus, at that time her own personal storms would entirely uproot and change her life. Quarantined and on her own, she wrote "Younger Women," the first song from her latest project New Limbs: Volume 1. An exploration not confined by traditional structures, New Limbs defines the ethos of her next musical chapter and mirrors the uncertain era we all find ourselves in. This EP became an opportunity to experiment with new ways of working and connecting with sounds and collaborators, and fans. VÉRITÉ used the forced isolation to hone her production skills, embracing the challenge to innovate once again - something she has done in every other aspect of her career. "I'm excited to find new ways to share and connect with the people who listen to my music right now," she says about the current challenges facing the music industry. A prolific and "spellbinding" (NPR) songwriter, executive producer and performer, her independently produced albums, EPs and singles have garnered 300M+ streams across all platforms with 1M+ monthly listeners.
