Final thoughts from the heart with Rachel Furman

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageHave you ever wondered what truly matters when time grows short—and how to welcome the present, however uncertain? In this powerful episode of the Simple Reflections Podcast, I reconnect with my dear friend Rachel Furman from Los Angeles. Rachel joins me in the final weeks of her life to speak openly about facing the end with calm, courage, and acceptance. Her refusal to equate pain with suffering stands out: “Suffering is optional.” Through a deep acceptance of her circumstances and a focus on what’s possible each day, Rachel offers a model for resilience and grace.Rachel shares how she turned her final years into opportunities for adventure – traveling, dancing, focusing on what brings her joy, and maintaining her independence and humour in her relationships, even with her medical team. Her wisdom about acceptance and letting go shines: “We are not in control of most things, but the less we resist, the easier it becomes.”Rachel’s wish is that her story might help even one person. She reminds us, “As long as you’re here, have fun, love, enjoy… there’s no reason to be upset about stuff.”What allows you to find peace or joy, despite difficult circumstances?Let us know your reflections. If you’d like to hear our previous conversation from 30 July 2023, you can find episode 11 here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2132149/episodes/13138097 This Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/e-j5OhFlkcUSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Be curious, get connected with Chad Littlefield

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageWhen was the last time you let curiosity drive your choices — and noticed it fundamentally change your perspective or path?In this episode of Simple Reflections, I’m joined by Chad Littlefield, co-founder of We and Me, and co-author of Ask Powerful Questions. Chad is renowned for “hijacking” TEDx events, transforming passive audiences into active participants by inviting contribution and connection from the whole room.We dive into how curiosity, not certainty, is the key that unlocks possibility — and how letting go of being absolutely sure can open up new avenues for learning, growth, and connection. We discuss the subtle — but game-changing — difference between doing connection and being connection, and how a shift in intent can transform the most basic human interactions. Chad also reflects on the impact of great questions, sharing stories of how a single question can “edit the future,” sparking real-world action. Looking ahead, he previews a new project: a deck of 60 questions designed to act as “edit buttons” for what comes next in life, helping people talk their way into tomorrow. How has deliberate curiosity — asking genuine, open questions — changed something in your life or work? What happened when you gave yourself permission to be less certain, and more open? Share your story — I’d love to hear what you discovered.  Website: https://www.weand.meBook: https://shop.weand.me/products/ask-powerful-questionsThis Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/t3Aarqxdm0QSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Being my #1 client with Oli Mansfield

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageDo you ever wonder why you do what you do and how best to be of service to others? In the latest episode of the Simple Reflections Podcast with my guest, Oli Mansfield, we explored the notion that of the clients we work with, we are our top client. What does that even mean Dave? Great question… for me, it’s the idea that I, like everyone else is not a completely finished product: I am a perpetual work in progress. As an idea it keeps me grounded and reminds me to stay open to seeing and experiencing new things, to learn, to be open to growth.Oli is a Transformation and Performance Coach from Marlow in Buchinghamshire.  He has a broad variety of clients that he serves with a passion for exploring the interplay between psychology and physiology; two subjects he has a deep expertise in, coupled with the humility to lead with his “inner dumbass” – or looking to understand the person he is with rather than shoehorn them into a preconceived box.I’d love to know when you’ve given yourself permission to lead with open curiosity in to unknown territory, and what did you learn?  Website: https://www.olivermansfieldcoaching.co.uk/Email: olimansfieldcoaching@icloud.comPhone: +44 7939 067752This Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/s-x0CvkYH8QSubscribe to the Simple Reflections YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/@SimplicityinMindSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Connection reflections with Dave

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageYou know the old saying... "necessity is the mother of all invention!"... well I've been inventing!  This episode of the Simple Reflections Podcast will fit the rhythm:·       Regular as clock work every 2 weeks·       2+ years·       62 episodes·       Always with a guest......until NOW!  This episode will be just me, in a slightly different format, one that I've been meaning to experiment with as a supplementary bonus to the 2 weekly episodes with guests. However, due to guest availability and holiday plans with my girls, the experiment is getting the prime slot... what could possibly go wrong!!! ❓ I'd love to hear your thoughts on the idea and on potential future topics for me to dive into?  Take care and I hope you enjoy the new format...  Website: http://www.simplicityinmind.co.uk/This Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/PKyqEIG3SbUSubscribe to the Simple Reflections YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/@SimplicityinMindSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Sit in the silence with Aila Coats

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageHow often have you given yourself permission sit in silence and take stock? In the latest episode of the Simple Reflections Podcast with my guest, Aila Coats, we kept coming back to this idea.Aila is a colleague and teacher of mine from Mississauga the idyllic Tahoe National Forest in California.  Aila is a professional coach who mainly works with teens and coaches looking to grow their businesses.I just love hosting this podcast.  I get to hang out with, and learn from some wonderful people and this episode is no different.  Aila and I discuss learning from the “course” of life: both the path it takes but also paying attention to the opportunity from the curriculum that is always unfolding around us.I’d love what you’ve taken time to explore what is possible for you by exploring the silence?  Website: https://www.ailacoats.com/At the end of the episode I mentioned a programme I'm creating.  Since recording I've created a waiting list for "Exploring the GAP".  If you're interested follow this link to learn a little more: https://simplicity-in-mind.kit.com/gap0925This Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/hKC6xUeecXESubscribe to the Simple Reflections YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/@SimplicityinMindSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Moments in time with Greg Fisher

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageHow often have you given yourself permission to notice moments in time? This was something that came up in the latest episode of the Simple Reflections Podcast with my guest, Greg Fisher.Greg is a good friend and colleague from Mississauga in Ontario, Canada.  Hi is a Coach, “Chief Potential Officer” and the author of a couple of books (details in the show notes).During the episode my conversation with Greg ranges from adventures to forgiveness, from parenting to Star Wars and all wrapped up in a gratitude for the times we live in and the opportunities that allows us to create and share with others. What we have both noticed as we’ve looked more deeply into how to serve our clients, is the capacity that lies in every singe moment.  We get to create in every moment.  In fact, that is all we do in every moment… but most of us don’t realise that’s the case.I’d love what you’ve noticed when you’ve been able to explore the moment you are in and what you’ve created from that there?  Website: https://www.coachingplease.comBooks:Lessons from the Force [https://www.coachingplease.com/the-wisdom-of-the-force]Happy Hockey Dads [https://www.coachingplease.com/happy-hockey-dad-book]This Episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/nOoCsPFQxV4 Subscribe to the Simple Reflections YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/@SimplicityinMindSupport the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests. Slowing down to the speed of now with ĐƠN GIẢN

I'd love your feedback, send me a messageAs ever, this is an episode where I was learning as I went… something I will be forever grateful for and is a completely unexpected gift from hosting this podcast. In this episode I’m, joined by ĐƠN GIẢN (pronounced Dunzan) an American coach living in Ho Chi Min City in Vietnam.  ĐƠN GIẢN changed his name from Dave Berman a few years ago because of ĐƠN GIẢN’s meaning in Vietnamese: Simple.  Like me ĐƠN GIẢN has a fascination with Simplicity: mine being the “Simple Reflections Podcast” and “Simplicity in Mind”; ĐƠN GIẢN’s not only being the name change but also his “Let it be Simple” community.ĐƠN GIẢN and I met through both being hosts of the “Heartfelt Presence” platform (a free, 24 hour Zoom room. Hosted by coaches with a grounding in the Three Principles).  It was through getting to know ĐƠN GIẢN briefly there that I thought he’d be a great guest for the podcast, and I wasn’t wrong…Our conversation ranged from the power that come from slowing down to the speed of now, to establishing connections through shared understanding and creating experiments, to the infinite world of ideas and possibilities that we are all a part of. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the idea of slowing down in life and seeing what can be created from there?  Website: https://letitbesimple.com/Support the showThe Simple Reflections Podcast is a collection of gentle conversations with people from all walks of life, looking at small, seemingly insignificant ideas that have gone on to have profound impacts on the lives of the guests.
