188. Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy, 'Dancing With the Stars' Pro

For Season 30 of Dancing With the Stars, Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy made history with partner Jojo Siwa as the first same sex couple in the show’s history. Today, I’m chatting with the DWTS vet about that and so much more, including how she got to be a pro on the show in the first place — growing up dancing competitively and winning international titles — plus her gateway to TV competing on So You Think You Can Dance. We also talk about her decision to move to LA at 18 and the difficulties she faced as she gained a following on social media — especially how troubling it was when other people started to vocalize how THEY felt about her body. Cue conversations around body dysmorphia, weight loss, and the creative outlet aside from dance that helped her come into her own and cope with various mental health battles. Plus, we rap about her husband Val and what’s on deck for her now that season 30 is over. #HURDLEMOMENT: An Expert On How to Maintain Weight Loss

Today I'm connecting with Dr. Gary Foster, Chief Science Officer at WW, a psychologist and obesity investigator. Statistics show that weight loss maintenance is extremely difficult, so much so that a majority of people who lose weight gain some (or all) of it back. After losing 70 pounds in college and keeping a majority of it off myself, I was excited about the opportunity to offer up what worked for me with some expert feedback in today's episode. Of note: This is NOT me suggesting that anyone needs to lose weight. Rather, having Dr. Foster weigh in on how to upkeep weight loss for those that are interested. 187. Courtney Dauwalter, Ultra Runner

Today I sit down with arguably the best female ultra runner in the world, Courtney Dauwalter. You may recognize her name from her most recent dominant performance at Ultra-Trail Cape Town, finishing in first place with a time of 11:20:04, and for those who don’t know, that's a 100K (62+ -mile!) trail race. Superwoman is an understatement here. She has a slew of other medals under her belt, which we talk about in this episode, but we also dig into so much more. From the ins and outs of all things trail running, to Courtney’s journey into the sport, to how it’s never too late to pivot and follow your passion. (Courtney’s professional running career started at 32-years-old.) Plus: Her advice for anyone going through a tough hurdle of their own and her go-to pre- and post-run eats (hint: pancakes are involved).  SOCIAL @courtneydauwelter @emilyabbate @hurdlepodcast OFFERS Goodr | Go to Goodr.com/Hurdle and use code “HURDLE15” to get 15% off your purchase. 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: Life's Too Short To Stay Unhappy

Two very different examples to exemplify ~why~ this has been top of mind this week. Moral: We get to choose what happens next, so stop doing things because you feel like you "should" and start doing things that bring you joy. Also! Answering a listener question about what to do when the new person you're seeing flakes — but you really, really liked them. #HURDLEMOMENT: An Expert On How to Say No Without Shame or Guilt

No can be one of the most powerful words in your vocabulary. But! It's not always easy to say it. Today, I'm connecting with Dr. Jeff Gardere, a medical advisor for Ro Mind, board-certified clinical psychologist, and Associate Professor and Course Director at Touro College. 186. Emma Coburn, 3X Olympian & Pro Runner

Season Eight! What’s up!? This week, Emma Coburn, three-time Olympian & 2017 steeplechase World Champion, joins me for episode 186. We had the chance to catch up when she was in town recently over NYC Marathon Weekend, and got into it all from her backstory to her recent trip to the Tokyo games. Emma tells me that she didn’t truly love running at first, what changed her attitude toward the sport, and the impact that team has had on her training and life. We also unpack what it’s like to train with all of her best friends in Colorado on Team Boss and be married to your coach. Plus, we talk about some tough stuff: Despite being favorited to come back home with a medal this year at the Olympics, Emma came up short. We talk about the ~why~ plus how she navigated the emotions of that. Emma also opens up about how she’s been doing since her mom was diagnosed with cancer in December 2019, and shares a beautiful perspective about consciously choosing optimism and happiness even when life’s hurdles get you down. The last episode in season 7! HOW? When!? Time is flying. Today, I'm talking about a lesson that hit home for me today at the Pequot Runners' Turkey Trot. I've been running this race for four years, and for the past three years — I ran a faster time each one.
