124: Functional Exercise in The Bible

I want to take you back to a time when people didn’t have gyms, peloton bikes, dumbbells, group classes or workout apps (OR pre/post workout drinks for that matter!). How did people stay fit in the “olden” days? We can look back to fitness in Biblical times and see that, even without all of these modern exercise advantages, they were able to stay fit. Their physical activity was naturally built into everyday life and not something they did separately like we do. They didn’t need to “go work out” because their lives were a workout. Ancient exercise was Functional exercise and we can gain a lot of perspective by considering how unconvoluted and accessible exercise can be.Listen to this week’s podcast for your weekly dose of God’s word and practical health advice. 123: The Genesis Prescription for Sleep

There’s a detrimental cascade of hormonal imbalance when we don’t get enough sleep. Our hunger and satiety hormones get out of whack so we don’t get the right signals that tell us we’re hungry or full. Ghrelin, our appetite stimulating hormone, increases from lack of sleep and leptin, our appetite suppressing hormone, decreases. This makes us prone to overeating because our brains aren’t getting the right signals. Throw in too much cortisol due to stress and excessive light exposure and you’ve got a recipe for a sabotaging sweet tooth and weight gain. Listen to this week’s podcast to learn how these hormones work according to a circadian rhythm and how we can best optimize sleep for good health and optimal weight. 122: The Breath of Health and Fat Loss

The most efficient breathing rhythm is 5.5 second inhales followed by 5.5 second exhales through your nose. Overbreathing or breathing through your mouth causes major metabolic and overall health problems. Breathing too much and too fast are the breaths of stress and fear. And you know God didn’t give us the spirit of fear! On top of that, chronic mouthbreathing leads to poor focus and mood, weight gain, periodontal disease, sleep apnea and many more health issues. We are meant to breathe through our noses. After all - God DID breathe life into man through the nostrils. Listen to this week’s podcast to learn how breathing efficiently is one of the foundational pillars of good health and metabolism. 120: Results of My Carnivorish Diet Experiment

I recently tried a Carnivorish Diet to see if it would improve my thyroid antibodies. Spoiler alert: it did not, but it did improve some other markers including my TSH and T4*. There were some ups and downs along the way and I’m sharing it all in this week’s podcast. On the whole, it was a powerful experience and I don’t for a second regret doing this experiment. Listen in to hear the details about my follow-up blood test, weight loss, digestive issues, reduced sugar cravings and discipline growth! *P.S. I got sidetracked and forgot to mention the thyroid improvements in the podcast even though I did talk about the antibodies and other markers. For more information and to access the show notes for this episode, visit my website here: https://www.thechristiannutritionist.com/podcast/120
